Diversity In Nature

Summer garden mixing some on wings some simply lying around, diverse in form each in nature enjoying the African sun, all except the photographer dodging the hot days once again!

Red-billed Firefinch sitting patiently waiting while I passed, celebrating the wild yet feeding from seed platform close to hand. Small resident birds found in most Sub-Saharan Africa.

Dragonfly is one I do enjoy, not only spectacular when on the move, they excellent insect hunters keeping the fly and mosquito populations under control, most definitely a good friend to have around.

The dragonflies do not bite nor sting, you are in safe hands.

Someone who does create a little destruction to my cycads is a caterpillar Zerenopsis leopardina, which is a Leopard Magpie Moth.

IMG_6419.JPG

Pied Leopard Moth at a later stage in lifecycle, very pretty moth is he! Found in Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe, this I know since I have watched them demolish my cycad plants. Following photo taken late September earlier this year to show what it looks like with wings...

Closing off today with sunset taken on Sunday, dazzling skies above with rain and shine during the summer months, there definitely is no place like home.

I love dragon flies so much. But the love aspect I have for it is not because I love to hold them but I play with them by killing it. But that was when I was still a kid but it give me joy especially when I have nothing to do.. You shots are so nice and unique.. I love them so much. Thanks for sharing.

When we young and inquisitive we don't mean to harm, later in life we learn the balance in nature they bring. Thanks for visiting and kind comment.

Yeah, you are correct. When I grew up and I see younger people killing them ,then I try to stop them from doing that because I know their value.

Stunning photos Joan! Interesting to think that caterpillar has evolved into a beautiful unusual moth!

Oh, the Leopard Magpie Moth is so pretty, I think the caterpillar can be excused for a little damage he causes :D

Caterpillar stage many go overboard killing them, I leave them and let them enjoy their cycles...

The moth, strange to think how much havoc and destruction something so small can make!

Cute little bugger, I don't enjoy his crazy eating habits but sure is good to see them on wing.
