Mesmerizing Winter In Durban

avatar

Pivoting Back Toward The Sun

Rain along the coast rolled away leaving it a little fresher, snow-dusted mountain peaks inland, after winter solstice we have enjoyed a splendid Sardine Run. Many throng down to beaches on announcement where sardines beached, watch the magic, get involved buckets, barefoot along the golden sands, it's school holidays many visitors arrive from inland enjoy our warmer weather.

Brilliant Winter golden glow on some blooms others simply grand, sub-tropical does not experience spectacular inland "Fall Season", we benefit from touches of warmth in the different flowers blooming during pleasant cooler time of year.

Erythrina caffra, the coast coral tree.

Closer look at the bloom, leaves tend to fall showing the flowers more distinctly.
IMG_7771.JPG

We have a variety of Coral trees in parks, private homes the dashing orange/red cheers you up wherever you wander.

Another plant in yellow or ranges of orange are the majestic Aloe species one will see in flower now.

Back to my garden the golden shower is dripping nectar for sunbirds and insects, Winter may be cooler it is entertaining being outdoors with vibrant life that greets you around each corner.

Pyrostegia venusta (Golden shower)

Surprise orchid saying hello for the first time, have done some research to identify as Cattleya Orchid Yellow, in bloom for three weeks mainly during the month of June.

Butterflies are plentiful bringing more joy and colour to life, sitting on some wild plant that has grown into the garden of which I have yet to identify.

It's magic living as part of flip-flop brigade along the East Coast of South Africa where our motto is Masisukume sakhe ("Let us rise and build") from the ocean to the mountains with rolling green hills in between. If you want snow go to the mountains, swim, surf or fish enjoy the long coastline!

Coastline is at it's best during the months of May to August (low humidity) is what I tell anyone wishing to visit. Warm enough to wear shorts and T-shirts during the day watch the Sardine Run, swim in the ocean or simply walk along white beaches enjoying the rock pools every so often. Weather can turn nippy always good to bring some warm clothing along.

What a wonderful celebration of living in Kwazulu Natal! The days have been absolutely glorious; the old slogan of Durban Tourism still rings true - Durban, the warmest place to be in winter!
The garden seems to have more colour in winter here.
I'm going down to Glenmore next week, hoping the fishermen strike it lucky, and perhaps see the last of the sardines! It would have been perfect if it was this week though.

Sardines still running off Winkle yesterday, fishermen proudly displayed some good looking garrick during the week caught on rods.

Enjoy your break down to the beach, always deserve some time away!

It's great to see different flowers still blooming in cooler times.

We are most fortunate having subtle change from summer to winter blooms, keeps the gardens busy with insects and birds.

I could be wrong but seeing your aloe Vera photos just made me realized I haven't seen them in NZ. Maybe they are grown here but they are not common if they grow in NZ compared to SA.

Climates completely different, similar grow in Australia I think. Perhaps some in botanical gardens with special conditions implemented. Countryside very pretty this time of year over here.

Dear beloved Hive creator,

Coding poet Gudasol here to support you sharing your art + life on Hive.

As a fellow creator, I know how hard it is to get the word out there.

I built cXc.world to help creators like us get more support from the blockchain community + beyond.

Share your music on cXc.world, and copy the Markdown for a easy post includes embedded players for Spotify, Youtube, Soundcloud.

That way, you can earn HIVE + stack streams on centralized platforms, as they do still matter.

Not a music creator? No problem. You can still use cXc.world to find + share music you love.

What's next?

Preview the next evolution of cXc, Tetra.earth.

Expose local music from your area!

We're helping grassroots musicians, and you can too by adding their music (no sign up or WAX account required).

Bad news: Saying see you later to Hive! 👋

We didn't get the needed support to continue cXc.world on Hive, as our DHF proposal lacked votes, but [Good News Everyone] cXc.world will add a Markdown copy button, allowing you to easily share your music + music you find on Hive.

For now, we're on WAX, with tools you can use to mint your own Music/Media NFT collection.
