Heatwave

Mid-Week It Must Be Wednesday Walk

Promise of rain arriving, quench our thirsty land, cool exceptionally hot people down, hint of rain brings joy all round.

Festive season all packed up, back to the grindstone once again, only evidence left is the gifted poinsettia, will see how long this one lasts!

IMG_2693.JPG

Preening, cleaning, sorting, always something to be done, in between short walks to keep what ever moves still moving, even through blazing hot time of the year.

IMG_2356.JPG

Dragon fly is similar colour to the rest of us, magical movements on a slight breeze, taking a break long enough to attract attention to it's beauty.

IMG_2691.JPG

Caterpillars and worms hiding under leaves, sticking to the shade constantly I believe, ever eating and growing watchful for movement not to become a meal.

IMG_2743.JPG

IMG_2717.JPG

Birds exhausted take break which is not normal, perched on wires, in the trees, we are watchful water is always available for them as well, everything needs water! Sky looks promising from time to time yet nothing arrives at this point yet....

IMG_2731.JPG

Snake glides closely by the weaver, neither too worried by the next, yesterday not much bothered to look for anything but water or shade, discomfort level for even the cold blooded snake it was moving across to the pond.

IMG_2813.JPG

This little chap sat looking at me as if asking why it was so hot today, taken yesterday in the scorching sun, added humidity factor to the already hot days have added more to the score by at least plus eight degrees pushing us close to forty, warnings were put out everywhere to take care in this heat.

IMG_2824.JPG

Flowers that close to sleep at night some white, pink or yellow not lasting as long as they normally do. Sometimes we plant then forget what they are called, anyone recognize, please mention in the comments below.

IMG_2741.JPG

My guess is portulaca oleracea (Purslane) from research, another edible plant for humans, not dogs, cats or horses, Portulaca sp. of sorts in pink, white and yellow. (Large Pink is rain lily I took this photo after December rains.)

Yellow-Pink-White.JPG

After excellent rain in December the Clivia has been flowering throughout the month only receives afternoon sun, it may be a little hot although well established appears to be coping.

IMG_2784.JPG

Cactus flower opens for one night, might be the Queen of the Night which originates in South America, one needs to be vigilant these do become invasive when not controlled, this one has never shown signs of expanding growth.

IMG_2789.JPG

Tiny lizard hiding under an awning caught by surprise with us darting into the shade, so naturally I took a photo, he was too hot to be bothered by some crazy out in the midday sun. Perhaps he thought he just blended in I would not notice...

IMG_2799.JPG

Wednesday Morning It's Raining

Oh boy, wet stuff falling from the sky started late last night and has continued on/off throughout the day, when the sun comes out we will boil once again, for now everything is alright!

Reprieve from the heat, even if only a day or two makes you feel human not needing to put an air conditioner when you have electricity! Shopping done back home to take a midday walk in the rain, the valley is filled with low hanging cloud not much of a view out there.

Little butterfly finding refuse on a plant under cover that only receives a light spray when rain comes down heavy.

IMG_2833.JPG

Dove of love they say sat quietly in the rain, actually enjoying this weather!

IMG_2836.JPG

All photographs taken yesterday and today to show the extreme difference weather makes in our lives. The change did not arrive with lightning as predicted, a strong wind then rain, first noticed frogs singing, then smell the approaching rain.

IMG_2807.JPG

Monkeys enjoying Guavadilla (Yellow Passion fruit) vines I have hanging around, sitting shaded from heat enjoying the treat yesterday! Today they are wet and I have not seen them at all.

No use arguing about the weather it changes whenever it feels like it, we are not in control...

Have a fun day wherever you are in the world, appreciate nature and everything she offers you.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
apparently the heat is making the world, here in my city the heat is unbearable
What a beautiful walk, and how many beautiful things you have observed. Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have shared with us
I hope they get some relief from the temperatures soon

Heat? I could use some of it.

Currently we are in the afternoon on 2023.01.25, 17:10 CET, and the current temperature is 2 °C.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Would send it to you if I was able, even with rain today at 23C feels like 24C with humidity.

Cold weather layering clothing one can possibly adjust to the cold, heat you hide away...

!LUV from South Africa where many are still feeling the heat, as we will soon enough once again.

Such beautiful shots so much to see, the heat there especially with the power cuts must be so hard to cope with

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Mentally and physically exhausted by heat and the powers that be that cannot get much right in this country, divert my attention to the positive where ever I can.

Thanks for visiting and lovely comment JJ.

I really like your last statement; in general, in my opinion, it is useless to focus on what we have no control over, it is better to allocate our energies elsewhere.

Beautiful photos, congratulations!

Climate change will happen irrespective of the high flatulent ideas!

Time and money could be better spent concentrating on using old technology, feed the world, stop wars creating despair.

Use new technology to improve what humans are unable to copy at speed required. Keep people employed it is what they need, utilize robotics in bettering human kind not eliminate them, all things will never be equal.

Thanks for comment and kind words.

With much attention and wonder I read your post, and I am surprised at how similar your climate is to the one I have here in my city heat, humidity and everything blooming, creation of life, rainy weather that does not end falling at least this day, the desert flower here is easily given, but it only blooms at night, I am going to look for some photos to be able to share the past flowering in addition to the spectacular perfume that invites to relax and gladdens the senses and immerses me in deep contemplation.

This is our master nature, with her natural flow of life, Mrs. @joanstewart I appreciate such a beautiful sharing of your country.

I need to get outdoors at night and wait for the flower to bloom I have been told the perfume is tantalizingly beautiful.

Only one day reprieve from the heat, it's back again with a promise of more rain on Sunday !LOLZ

The aroma is very similar to that of daffodils but more intense, is spectacular. It opens its flower after 11:00 pm and at 12 it is open in all its splendor

Most flowers I have ever seen on the Clivia it must love this spot although relatively hot when the sun comes over taking the shade away for a couple of hours every day.

I'm glad that the heat makes a break and Mother Nature lets it rain - the animals and flowers certainly need the cooler air and wet stuff just as you have been longing for it. Let's hope that the sun hides for longer behind the clouds than just for a few days.

My favourite photo is the lizard, that I almost didn't see, and the dragonfly look so huge - wow 😀

One day cloud cover, it is all gone, now to wait for Sunday with a promise of more to come.

Lizard was around 9 to 10cm from tip of nose to end of tail sharing the space. Dragon fly hovering around landed close enough to capture, Zac mentioned they come back to similar spot quite often, so I stood still in the sun for a couple of minutes in the hope his theory was right !LOLZ

That wasn't very long - fingers crossed that they are right with Sunday: no sun on Sunday 🤞 !LOLZ

Oh yes, Zac has photographed many dragon flies and he has the patience that I still don't have. If I see a dragonfly I try to take a photo, in which I haven't been successful yet, but I don't have the patience to wait for it to come back 😅

We slow down so much in the heat everything stops for a breather, little lizard is a sure sign on how they try to move with the shadow....

Wishing for rain, not floods..., still waiting for the powers to be to fix the last round in April last year.

Hope it is a Friday for you no work over the weekend, sure you would !LUV some time off to go somewhere again.

I think we are really lucky with the weather here, although it has also become somehow weird in the past years, but I certainly can't imagine such heat.

It was a busy Friday but no work during the weekend. The weatherman predicts some snow again and I hope to see some icicles or icy waterfalls.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and hopefully it rains 🌧️

Rain arrived on Sunday, had a brilliant Monday with cooler weather promised into Tuesday as well, then we say farewell and the heat goes up once again....

I most definitely should have considered a cooler climate years ago, the only one in the family that relishes the heat is my skinny husband with my sons and myself melting 🙃.

Water under the bridge... so they say !BEER time 🙂

As said before, I hope the weatherman is wrong, but if not then I'm happy that at least you have had a few cooler days.

I think when you were younger you didn't mind the heat that much, but the older one gets the more it changes. It's the same with me and cold temperatures. When I was young I loved the cold and wore t-shirts when the others had coats on, but now I prefer it warm and cozy 😉 !LOLZ

Very seldom I wear jersey or jacket at the coast, very odd occasion up in the mountains where the thinner air does tend to be slightly different.

Yep, I know what you mean - in December I was in Italy at the sea and a jacket wasn't needed there, but when I drove to the Dolomites in the afternoon, I needed some thick layers although the sun was shining there too 🌞❄️ !LOLZ

We have a pond gets afternoon shade, I often stand quietly watching the birds dive through the water, small tree close to sit cleaning, preening feathers ready for flight.

Pity I placed the pond where I am not able to obtain photographs easily without disturbing them !LOLZ

Rain, Rain, go away come back another day. I'm sure that this song is not on your top 10 list, or should I say your top 1,000,000 list.
Turning on the air-conditioner works for most of us, but having rolling blackouts can't be any fun when you're sweltering.
You would think that humans would wake up one day and realize that water is our lifeblood, but yet we ignore its importance and continue to pollute the very thing that keeps us alive.
Beautiful post, capturing the necessity that all living creatures have for water.

Here is a little something to view when you're about to boil over.

Now that's cold.

Never have I experienced quite this intense heat, rain was gorgeous to walk in for one day I believe tomorrow more is promised.

It does look like Portulaca, I will nibble a leaf or two and see what the difference in taste is to the Spekboom.

Garden is running a little wild, will do a more come cooler months to tame.

Have a beautiful Saturday!

Little lizard was so hot actually kept moving in our shadow until we reach the awning when it decided to go a foot or two away, still sluggish for a cold blooded animal.

Monkeys always fascinating to watch eating passion fruit, dig a little hole and sit taking fruit out one finger at a time.

Cool weather yesterday and today, a little breather, have a lovely Monday!
