Flummoxed

Warner Beach Sapphire Coast Rant

Confused, perplexed, flustered, call it whatever one wants, this world has gone crazy or I'm teetering on the edge between tears and anger. Division, taking sides, rich vs poor, wars and conflict, governments and taxman they all want a piece of the person , we are the commodity!

Why do we hold onto history when people blurt things they have no knowledge about, lack of knowledge is a blunt instrument being used through media.

Let's move on, a glimpse of our town all from the car window..., I'm afraid while driving to and fro (hijackers or criminal element hanging around), walking from here to there whether Woody comes along, collecting stores with on-going repairs and maintenance, always enjoyable to be out however still exposed!

IMG_8403.JPG

Crossing the freeway looking down into Amanzimtoti, apparently so named a long time ago as 'river of sweet waters'. If it looks like shit, smells like shit, it must be, your'e right sewage still runs strongly streets/rivers, no beach walk in over two years, no wonder I feel I'm losing it!

IMG_8455.JPG

Perhaps take a deep dive, indulge with me here renaming of every place is a laugh a minute living in a country that cannot afford to feed the people. Ethekweni by what I understood means "bulls balls" according to speculation over shape of Durban bay, this rose controversy back in the day, Durban city remains, municipality is Ethekweni, meaning, names are like 'sticks and stones', sad reality is they have residents by the balls literally when it comes to paying for no service delivery.

IMG_8457.JPG

Local citizens are slowly waking up to realization not to rely on anyone to fix and clean their regions, road alongside railway line bridge is handiwork of a lovely young artist in the region who is financially assisted by local business, residents to slowly make her way through the towns presenting more what many grew up with.

IMG_8459.JPG

Do you see the tree growing out of the chimney stack here? Apparently history indicates settlers along coast required a place to rid themselves of excess, building to incinerate waste. Town was growing, forethought placed into planning. To this day simply called "Chimney Tree" a well know spot.

IMG_8460.JPG

Turning up along main road, two boats Warner's - Place of Waves and Baggie's Surf Break topped up with local succulent plants, nice touch by the residents to welcome all to our stretch along Sapphire Coast of Durban.

IMG_8461.JPG

Ambling down toward the end of village gives a view of sea, homes, railway line from the road most traveled, quieter and safer than facing speedsters on the freeway! Since residents have rolled up their sleeves tackling dirt strewn everywhere the little town is hopefully recovering from the despair of forever fighting losing battles.

IMG_8462.JPG

Completely unable to comprehend this life's meaning, many battle to cope, totally understandable in both young and old, appear to be falling while moving along this road call life over the last few years, do you agree it has you totally flummoxed?

One thing consistent are the names of the actors. Can always bank on knowing who's who ahead of the slaughter.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart
It's sad to see what's happening in the world, and the worst of all is that with the passage of time everything gets worse
Have a lovely day, enjoy Woody's company

Simply cannot ignore what is being thrust upon people today, much of history skewered or glossed over with sub-standard thought, debate or discussion.

Light at the end of each tunnel, we readjust, stay positive as much as possible, thank goodness for Hive to pen our thoughts down when time avails.

Life spiraling out of control...but not yours. All around you it seems the fabric that holds civic life together is crumbling. Yet, you sound determined, resolute.

The edge of what you describe intrudes in different parts of my country. Not where I live, I have the feeling, though, it is like a slow rot. If it exists somewhere, everywhere is threatened.

Here's hoping one day those walks on the beach will resume.

The boiling frog phenomenon was first presented by Olivier Clark, a writer and philosopher who used this metaphor to demonstrate that a human being put in certain conditions, even if they are uncomfortable, will slowly get used to them and stay within, not being able to get out.

Don't have to look over borders to realize this is happening everywhere, time to stand together in like minded thinking folk.

Thanks for visiting and comment.

Every time I visit a place after a good few years I am stunned how the places have changed for the worse. Travelling to Durban tomorrow and the good thing is I fly out on Sunday so it should not be too depressing. The trip to England was a shocker and is definitely not what it was 20 years ago.

Far North Coast still holds, travel getting there a problem, Far South Coast apparently also clean. Ethekweni Municipality is the problem, not tackling things efficiently.

Parts of Durban are spotless for tourists, scratch under surface and see the rot that has set in! London is disgusting seeing comparatives to previous years. Another wake up call Tourism In Finland - The Finns, Are They Human? having seen some places many years ago, watching current affairs? My concern is indoctrination happening through schools, universities, media today.

King Shaka Airport when we arrived very little was working. Escalators turned off and wash basins in the toilet area out of order. Not a great impression and thought about your post immediately.

This city has gone downhill, unless you go to specific places, purpose you might be in for a surprise.

@joanstewart, You have received 1.0000 LOH for posting in Ladies of Hive. We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hodl LOH tokens over a long period of time.

It is always difficult to see how the world has changed and today's youth are so used to it that they are like frogs sitting in a boiling pot, unaware of where it will all go. Perhaps it is all by design and there is nothing to be done but stay positive in your own little corner of the world. Life is meant to be enjoyed and that has become my main focus. May you find peace in the midst of all the turmoil, Joan. ♥

I hope you get out to have a walk on the beach soon Joan!
Places just keep going downhill just when you think that wasn't feasible.

Will have to drive further south to plan a beach walk, always check on the health of our rivers hoping things do turn around.

As communities we have to try stand fast together, change is never easy, it's decay at an accelerated pace. Thought it a third world problem, no longer!

The world seems to be in chaos these days no matter where we are. But it is up to us to try to make the little patch of it around us a little better, right?
Cheers, Joan and have a great weekend!

It's just awful driving around and seeing the degradation everywhere, no wonder they call Durban dirtbin! It for sure is affecting tourism, we're seeing fewer holidaymakers coming. We now rely mostly on business guests and those coming for functions. We sometimes get a stench coming from a stream down in the valley. It used to be clean water, my boys used to go and catch fish there, obviously little ones! I believe now it's just filthy water, it makes one want to cry, Joan!

Always looking for some positive light through the dismal display of destruction, finding a little within communities.

Tourism is on a back footing, once honest readings are given regularly it may change, one doubts current powers that be, it is not happening as it once was.

Take care and eyes open at all times for safety!

For sure, an lesson and a reminder, as we had another close call a while back. A car turned into the driveway and refused to move when a guest was trying to get in. Fortunately it eventually turned and left, realizing we weren't opening, and neither did the guest! That was quite unnerving.

It is difficult to relate to outside world how we literally live with eyes in the back of our head, have done for a long, long time as well.

It is pathetic that nothing has been done over the sewage for 2 years now. I will be losing it too if my favorite place for a walk has been closed or unsafe to go out for a refreshing walk.
