Colliding Mountain And Sky

Nature In Majestic Drakensberg

Waking to a bright sunshine morning at higher altitude the sky piercing blue sky being stabbed by sandstone rock formation, put on the walking shoes lets explore again.

IMG_1123.JPG

After sharing breakfast with a Pied Starling, chatty little fellows are they without hesitation will enjoy whatever you have, little argy-bargy self service then off again.

IMG_0986.JPG

Big trees offering shade give ample opportunity to cool off when one feels you over heating, well that is the exercise option of going on foot compared to many who slug around pools or drive everywhere.

IMG_1144.JPG

Taking a route through the unusual grasses and bush, enjoying the smell which is so different to coastline always watching where you place your feet with small wild flowers (or snakes) peeping out between.

IMG_1684.JPG

A rock formation I call old man resting where Swiman hut is at the foot, accommodating up to 30 people doing Giant's Cup trail. Swiman hut was an old forestry house with electricity, hot water, a large house with toilets , showers, kitchen and lounge enough for a group of hikers to take shelter after a day of enduring the trail. Verandah apparently offers wonderful views of Swayiman Peak rising 2 430 m above.

IMG_1701.JPG

Zooming out a little to capture this outcrop set slightly away from the main geographical higher mountains.

IMG_1687.JPG

No matter where you are under the mountain, pulse of Africa vibrates through body and soul always electric anticipation using 'self-drive' in hiking.

Being in a space where one can walk without looking constantly over your shoulder is so rewarding. Many do not realize how very attractive a safe country would be after living in cities here.

Walks to remember, I relive each moment going through photography, thanks for visit and always leaving a wonderful comment.

Very talkative little bird sometimes taking a hop into the cottage to peek around as well. Oh the goose did look proud of himself, loads of flying, chasing then...., well got what he came for!

Have a great evening and thanks for the visit.

Bird life, men dress up smart, then the chase begins, many help raise the young a very busy time!

Videos under Media tab gives more indepth ideas on thinking which does make sense, perhaps a ways and means of ridding day light robbery with politicians....

So true. Look what you found... flowers! You would think that there is none.

Good morning to other side the pond !LOLZ

Even grasses gently bowing on a breeze are magic to watch, the pink flowers are ever lasting their petals feel like paper to the touch.

Found in yellow, pink/red/ or white normally in mountain region growing wild. Apparently freeze and fire tolerant, some information about these pretty flowers. People are requested not to remove when found in most places I have visited.

Plant description:

These everlasting flowers look like double daisies, with straw-like petals in bright scarlet, purple, orange, pink, yellow and white. Sow directly or in trays in autumn or spring. Space seedlings 350mm apart in well-drained soil; they should flower 16 weeks from sowing. A popular flower for drying; cut blooms when half open, tie stems in bunches and hang upside down in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. South Africa has about 250 species of Helichrysum, growing mostly in the wild; H. petiolare is a good option for an indigenous garden.

Family: – Asteraceae, Daisy family

Botanical Pronunciation: hell-ih-KRYE-zum brak-tee-AY-tum - https://plantinfo.co.za/plant/helichrysum-bracteatum/

Some stunning pictures of the mountains and the land that lies below.
Love the quote by Albert Einstein. Taking the time to be consumed by nature will put you in your place and leave you shedding any sense of pompousness.

It won't be long before I'll be enjoying nature from the many footpaths that put you smack in the middle of landscapes not seen from the car.

Returning to this region since 1990s much has changed in the valley, once you enter Parks Board area, nothing but nature alters seasonally.

Change in attitude is evident with families hiking once again, there was a lull ten/fifteen years ago when hardly no one got out onto the paths which is nice to see.

Unbelievable picturesque landscapes, juicy greenery, cute birds, and fragile flowers. Africa falls in love with itself! Thank you @joanstewart for sharing this atmospheric walk.

Much trouble in the cities, once you escape to remote places peace and quiet still found, Africa is a land of contrasts in landscapes and peoples. Thanks for visiting and kind comment.

Nature is my home and the shots here of the Berg reminds me so much about the great times that we had there. Lovely post Lady Joan.

Have scrambled many places, caves, hiking routes North to South, always found much to capture imagination, total enjoyment once there.

Just a pity that we could only take short breaks there. My father in law spent a whole year in the berg, as he worked as a geologist on the tunnels under the dam. He knows the entire berg like the palm of his hand and he has many fascinating stories picked up from the locals.

Been doing trips into the mountains since small, long weekends or one week breaks, always hiking and exploring, never seen all either!

Lucky you and I think that if one can live near the mountain for a couple of years, then one could see most of it. Short breaks are very limited.

When we see tourists on paths we mention to them to be on the look out, usually walk with a stick to clear grass before stepping, many are unaware of both 🙂
