Sun Comes Out With Chill In The Air

First noticed a good old favourite lazing in the early morning sun warming up before going out in search of something to eat the Philothamnus semivariegatus or Spotted Bush Snake is harmless, charming with a shy nature. Very aware I am looking out the window photographing, this snake enjoys the warmth of the roof here in Durban, also most common snake around!

The Red-capped (Natal) Robin-Chat (Cossypha natalensis) came out after the rain to greet, what a handsome shy little fellow is he. A small passerine bird of the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae, at first European visitors to the land associated this little bird with the Robin Redbreast, later identified closer to the flycatcher family.

Brown-hooded kingfisher (Halcyon albiventris) is still visiting regularly, obviously still happy in the garden with morsels beneath to enjoy diving from his lofty retreat. Medium sized bird enjoys woodlands on our coast having a good selection of trees to use are common to see moving through the gardens.

IMG_3804.JPG

Garden Croton leaf laying on the path, splash of mud in raindrops water from recent hard downpour we enjoyed in Winter. Rain in Winter months do not happen often, this last extremely big cut off low in weather came up from the Cape arriving with massive electrical storm to kick-off heavy rain that followed.

IMG_3806.JPG

Blue skies and Cape-forget-me-not (Anchusa capensis) in flower again they love the sun, easily adapt to most soil conditions, great for the bees and butterflies visiting this cobalt blue little flower.

IMG_3809.JPG

Dog and Butterfly, Woody mole hunting again while butterfly is collecting pollen from small chickweed flowers in bloom.

IMG_3790.JPG

Indian myna (Acridotheres tristis) Starling of Asia, was brought to South Africa then escaped cages, now exceptionally well settled in our land. Dynamic being clever able to mimic a variety of calls this Asian medium sized bird keeping watch over everything in sight perched up on high.

IMG_3823.JPG

First Sunbird sighting in awhile, the Collared Sunbird (Hedydipna collaris) enjoying a bit of warmth coming out from undergrowth. Pretty little bird with short-bill compared to larger in the species, the male greeted female must be close, they back again.

These are indeed very beautiful pictures that portray nature. The green snake looks really harmless on picture too.

It's always amazing to appreciate the beauty of nature✨

Lol I wouldn't argue with you on that considering lots of farms and resorts which I have worked on in SA.

Cute indeed flashing turquoise when surprised, looking at me I'm not surprised!

Hunting dog has had a busy time of it, poor moles running beneath the surface hither and tither....

such beautiful photos I think my favorite is the Kingfisher

I know the snake is harmless but if my wife saw it she would freak out

Kingfisher that enjoys everything on the garden floor worms, insects that come close he dives down to enjoy.

Treat all with respect give them space and they move on, most of the extremely venomous snakes simple don't like humans, although often found within homes during heat of summer.

I always think of the kingfisher song when I see a photo of one, not sure I have ever actually seen one in person

We don't have so many pretty birds like that. What a nice walk to see all of those guys. I can do without the snake though. I have to admit it has a pretty colour.

Woody!😊

Humans cannot replicate colours found in nature, smooth blending and textures. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day.

That sunbird is gorgeous, we've not seen any for a long while. Beautiful photo of the Kingfisher, but a snake I'm terrified of!
Our adopted cat has been very naughty, brought another little bird inside the house, so Poe is in my bad books again!
Beautiful post Joan.

Having a cat indoors you will notice the gecko disappear, my son's cat stops dead in her tracks when she hears my voice out the window. Must be honest younger son trained her well, she still tries.... she's a cat!

I've received geckos as a gift as well, even a brown lizard that I tried saving but Poe was too fast for that!
I'll forgive him for that, but not for killing my little feathered friends. He knows I'm not happy with him, but can't stop a cat from getting up to its tricks🐈

Not only cats, I had a Staffie dog who brought such a variety to lay at my feet including snakes and crabs. Cats will always be fascinated by birds, part of the personality.
