August Winds Of Change

Supermoon High Alert

Cold Benuela and warm Agulhas Current surrounding the subcontinent of southern Africa has encountered a very strange winter. Western side of the country wet and cold Eastern half dry, hot not quite the winter I was hoping for, we had a couple of cooler day when snow arrived inland, not enough for more than a jersey for a day or two.

Month with the Supermoon brought high tides, even higher swells many warnings about damaging winds and waves. August starts to alert one to Spring arrival, new leaves fired up in red through early morning sunlight, early plants start bursting through the ground to flower, many birds arrive once again busying themselves for imminent arrival of longer, warmer days.

That is what conditions are currently weather wise, we still walk enjoying casual wear throughout the year here in Durban region. Waiting patiently for some rains to arrive spring clean the air and plants once again dusty.

Lets go for a walk and soak in some of what is happening outdoors in humid subtropical climate where we enjoy moderate frost-free winters.

Arriving at the park for weekly jaunt with Woody very first bird to greet is the African hoopoe busy on the ground, actually there were two, being a relatively busy Sunday afternoon walk they did not hang around for long.

Cute looking cow grazing the fields with herdsman egging them to move along after all this is the time of day to start heading back home over the hills. I simply loved their huge floppy ears!"

IMG_8413.JPG

Yellow pops out of small bushes along the Amanzimtoti river to cheer you along the way, stunning displays during the dry season.

IMG_8418.JPG

One will never not stop to look up and marvel the broad-leaf coral tree, all the leaves fall to give a grand display in fiery orange tipping toward bright red.

IMG_8422.JPG

The Loerie leered at me through the dense undergrowth, first their were two but I was not quick enough to capture them together in the dappled lighting.

IMG_8424.JPG

Coastal Coral tree with much smaller leaf another plant that enchants, inviting nectar loving birds and insects to visit in their slightly leaning toward a terracotta blooms.

IMG_8431.JPG

Smiling face within the bark of the tree above, this I found to be a friendly welcome to the park. Do you see it?

IMG_8436.JPG

What appears to be a of the Cisticola family a first sighting for me, still have to verify but sure I'm on the right trail as I could not see the back of the bird distinctly, upturned tail a dead give away.

IMG_8439.JPG

Brown-hooded kingfisher many more kingfishers around this area in variety shapes, colours and size.

IMG_8444.JPG

Little wild free canaries in our shrubs and trees alongside the river today, with berries and grasses in season, no surprise to see them appearing.

IMG_8452.JPG

This brings me to the end of the pleasant outing seeing more birds down along the paths, cattle becoming regulars crossing around the outer edges of the sports fields.

Keep walking and join in with the Wednesday Walk.

I think this is a favorable weather, since it's neither hot nor cold. I prefer warm weather where outdoor activities are still very possible

Weather here on average through winter is ideal, a few cold days up to a week when barometer comes down to single digits with snow inland, rest of the time perfect.

Your title sounds like the name of our church 😂
In fact, weather has really changed in my country this year. We had a terrible weather change that has affected farmers badly. We had no rain for about two months from early July. Maize and other crops have been affected badly. We can tell what will be the fate on the country. Are you experiencing any abnormal weather change in South Africa also?

Flooding on the West, fires on the East we have had a rough season.

Weather is cyclical affecting everything, we have years of plenty then periods with low yields. Nothing untoward as people try promote "climate change" for profiteering off the average person.

Good afternoon dear friend @joanstewart

I'm not surprised that the weather in your country has been changeable, given that it is happening in much of the world, I hope that the spring rains come soon

How beautiful is the African hoopoe, I love the combination of colors of its feathers

What beautiful photographs of plants and birds you have been able to take during this walk on Wednesday. Have a great afternoon

Good walk to clear the mind once a week is needed, I walk around my garden run around to shops, nothing beats the walk in the park or on beach (when they ready to walk again).

Have a beautiful day further.

My goodness it's beautiful there. Wow. The flowers! We have nothing like those in the wild here.

Flowers are stunning during this time of the year, completely different in each season yet these simply demand attention whenever you see them.

The smiling faced tree appears not to be too happy, perhaps with the weather as the birds and the coastal trees. But I'm certainly very happy with what's going on in the park.

Beautiful walk out there on the other side of the world 🌎 and talking about the other side of the world it is just amazing how we all share the same moon and sun yet so far apart in distance with oceans and mountains to cross...

We all walk under the same sun and moon, pity people simply cannot accept we are all the same.

True, we don't have to think deeply about that. It is clear to see but some of us wouldn't accept it.
