April Is October Of The North

Freshen Up

One of the best months to visit South Africa if you want to explore wildlife, birdlife, summer rain regions green cover starts to subside making it easier to see into the bush.

A weekend exploring late afternoon walks, actually getting to a park, one of the few places to safely enjoy stepping out into nature with some folk around, not too busy.

IMG_3310.JPG

Clouding over made amazing display up above, swirling winds yet no rain over the last couple of weeks. Perhaps with the long weekend approaching rain will arrive to dampen the spirits of the inland visitors.

IMG_3295.JPG

Woody enjoyed lifting his leg more than once darting to and fro, leaving a trail of his scent for any dogs coming through later.

IMG_3300.JPG

Selecting a field not to be in the way of sporting teams we made our way across the baseball field.

IMG_3306.JPG

Only one strutting it's stuff was the wagtail enjoying a walk along with us, slowed down not walking as regularly as in the past, going to have to watch that too!

IMG_3302.JPG

Did not take long when a couple of cars arrived with younger way more energetic guys and gals take to the field with a football. Watched some exuberant cheating (match fixing) going on between the teams having fun in the late afternoon sunlight.

IMG_3313.JPG

Then ambled across to walk alongside the river for awhile, many more people along the path, once again I lagged behind to capture some photography. A friendly couple spotted across the water this Giant Kingsfisher (more about birds in Feather Friends), how handsome is he!

IMG_3314.JPG

Being out felt like school holidays all over again, how very much I miss the walks, beaches still not clean, of the five fields only one open to walk quietly not bothering anyone. Park next to the library has cattle permanently ambling around which dogs do not enjoy!

Other April News To Enjoy Soon

Hope your health is treating you well (or better than last time we chatted), have a wonderful day as well!

to be honest I'm not having a good time, the pain has intensified, tomorrow I have an appointment with the doctor to do another MRI of the upper part of the back, which is where the ailments have now manifested themselves
Thank you so much for asking

That looks like an enjoyable work you had, always good to take a walk in nature and absorb the freshness it has to offer. Woody seems to enjoy the walk as well.

Most enjoyable, not having parks available in closer proximity (sewerage spillage) one considers cost of petrol, that walk was needed!

Yeah, petrol for traveling is a factor when parks are a bit of a distance from the place of residence.
Are they doing something to fix the sewerage spillage though on the nearby park though?

These fields have Cricket, Baseball, Rugby, Soccer fields, Tennis and Squash courts on offer. Running club, cycling club, canoe club also use this as home base in the area.

Photographers paradise for bird watching up and down the river if/when it is running clean.

!LOLZ have an amazing day.

Enjoyable day out with Woody. Kingfisher is a pretty bird with colors similar to our blue jays.

Hope the cleanup is progressing and things back to normal soon.

Six steps forward, ten back..., nothing repaired properly or don't have money to repair at all.

Missed spotting the Malachite Kingfisher mentioned by the chap out doing photography. Going with the dog one doesn't stand still for too long !LOLZ

Although I love it when everything gets green again after the Winter, I much more prefer the Autumn with it's colours and cooler air after a hot Summer ... and our October would be your April 😃

Lovely photos, especially the one of Woody enjoying making his business in the grass 😉 and informative post, Joan, I'm wishing you also a wonderful week 🌞

Doesn't Woody look totally happy have his underbelly tickled at the same time!

Walk was pleasant at that time of day, we always went early mornings, going later was relatively quiet and enjoyable.

Some light snow on the southern Drakensberg last night, a little rain here on the coast, all of a sudden you feel it is Autumn, much more alive and vibrant now.

Yep, I have thought the same about the grass 😁 !LOLZ

I love morning walks when it's still dark and slowly gets brighter while more and more birds start to sing 😃

We have also had quite some rain and it's relatively cold again ... we are waiting for the warmer months while you enjoy the cooler ones, but the best seasons are Spring and Autumn to me.

Spring and Autumn most enjoyable seasons of the year here as well, would love to go inland and see the golden leaves, cosmos in flower inland, something not done in a while.

Cooler days shorter hours most enjoyable if the coast was clean!

The Autumn colours amaze me every year again - how green forests can turn into a kaleidoscope of colours is always a fantastic experience 🎨😀

Fall Leaves at Lake Kenmo near Underberg, South Africa is a spot known for the beauty at end of April, still have to get the timing right to see it in full fall colour!

Friend in our village posted on Facebook this is close to where we holiday inland.

Every season is special, the draw of change in such a grand manner I must make a plan to be there!

Your friend's photos show what I mean - the fresh green in Spring is exciting and beautiful, but nothing against the colourful paintings the forests turn into in Autumn. You definitely have to try to see it again 😊

I did content about the area on old platform, missed full fall colours by a couple of weeks. Dale does a lot of travel throughout southern Africa with them owning a 4x4 which is able to take one into very remote regions.

Here it's often a matter of days or a week to miss the peak of the Autumn colours. I hope you get the chance to see them this year.
Being able to drive to places where most other people can't go is certainly a huge advantage.

How I miss going to watch my boys play football! Nice that you have a safe well-kept park nearby.
What a tragedy that our Municipality have let us down by not reinstating infrastructure!
That Kingfisher is a real beauty!
Interesting about the effect the stars and planets as well as the moon has on life on earth. I will be watching the full moon on Thursday.
Thank you for sharing your lovely post with us Joan🤗

Group comprised girls and boys, late teens early twenties out to have an ad-hoc game, was good to see!

Most evenings I enjoy the night sky when not clouded over or simply enjoy the night listening to the bats going over, full moon I normally will hear the nightjar calls in the trees across the road.

Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day.

Here on our place we suffered for more than a week of very hot weather but this week we are blessed with rain and the rain just ended this time.

Rains at this time of the year hopefully bring Autumn with it, breaking the summer cycle 🙂. Should it warm up after the rain it will be hot and humid again! 😡

You're right after the rain we can feel the freshness of the earth and again followed by a hot weather again.
