AgePop

'When it rains in August, it rains honey and wine.'

Proverb heading relates more to the Northern Hemisphere, when rains arrive in Southern Hemisphere in August, it's readying soil during last month of winter.

Proudly standing guard over the domain

Silvers need no verification process, simply reading content the AgePop shows, from music, recipes, movies, books, obviously odd mention of wobbly knees, aches or pains suddenly popping up from nowhere.

IMG_0781.JPG

Warming oneself in the sun helps

Think back to how rough we were when young, running barefoot, climbing trees, catching tadpoles, or making go-carts you were sure to come off.

IMG_0768.JPG

Burdens may be heavy still keep moving forward

Most Boomers will tell you, instruction was to be home before it got dark, it was OK with only 'keep out of trouble'. Trouble was your first name, you only had books, a radio or record player in the home no TV for many growing up.

Leave a memorable footprint for some to remember

Sharing what we have learned brings joy to most, proud to assist those who ask, I have never found a 'Silver' who do not stop to help others where able.

IMG_0761.JPG

Breaking new ground in anticipation of new season

Technology has in many ways killed meeting others face to face, yet somehow we have grappled through with change, still learning, growing, when the hell do you stop? Never!

Call your friends to taste the nectar too

August's Ancient Origins - Originally the sixth month called Sextilis (Latin for sixth) under the Roman calendar, August was renamed to honor Augustus Caesar in 8 B.C. by the Roman Senate. The Senate had already renamed July in honor of Julius Caesar after his assassination. August Month History Facts

Solemn reminder to always be you

Now big reveal as to what I accomplished over last month, altered roof on a car port and outdoor area for relaxing under, requested the better parts not too rusted be salvaged. Replaced tool shed roof which had a hole poked in by a falling palm tree frond some time back.

IMG_0803.JPG

Tool shed completed this week with lick of DTM paint

Another task conquered, not me painting this time my helper Vusi took to the steps, I would surely end up in the dirt had I attempted this now, pleased with the result it should do for the next ten years.

Neat and tidy in the corner blending in with nature

Those with AgePop will always look to ways not to throw out, rather extend the life of what is not ready for the dumpsite as they are full enough already.

Wishing one and all a wonderful new week, smile it's either your last month of summer/winter before entering next season, life is good, make it so!

Although I´m not yet a silver (I think) I can already relate to many of those things you mention here. Thanks for your thought. Impressive pictures by the way.

Good afternoon, dear friend @joanstewart

What a beautiful post! It invites reflection.

It's true that the years go by, and one loses some mobility and dexterity, but as you say, other qualities emerge, such as helping others through experience.

Technology has changed our lives a lot, and when we adapt to the changes, there are others to assimilate.

Have a beautiful month of August, enjoy it a lot.

...instruction was to be home before it got dark

And heaven help you if you're late!

I love how you always weave the story around your stunning photos.
Well done to you and Vusi, that tool shed looks brand new!

I think our parents all had the same instruction book on how to raise children back then, discipline was worse than simply obeying.

Double car port roof was kaput, awning to sit under not as badly hit, what a waste to throw away and the team that did this really knew how to get it done.

Vusi enjoyed the finishing touches, he is such a pleasure to work with.

Vusi sounds like a real gem, just like Bonginkosi, he's also very finicky about those finer touches. We are blessed indeed!

I do resist calling myself silver, but sometimes getting a little help is good thing. Great pictures and I loved your message, very well done!

Those sneaky silvers appear quite young, something you cannot avoid. Camouflage may become your next best friend or simply let it take over, good to have a choice.

My mom's uncle never went gray, his hair was black well into his 80's, and you could tell he didn't dye it because he had a few stray gray hairs. Talk about luck!

Perhaps it runs in the family, I had a friend go white in his 20s.

One is only as old as one feels! If we can get past the aches and pains we are fine, youth of today can learn so much from our resilience. Love that shot of the snake popping up his head

We grew up in a different era, tough but free to explore, youth are so different with what they face today, feels like light years away.

This time of year snakes will be seen catching warm spots before nightfall.

Our National Day which celebrates the day we gain independence is in August. There are a few other countries which declared independence in August that I know of. USA July 4th is one many people know. So I and some other people had this theory that summer was a good time to start a revolution.

I loved this post because it says goodbye to a month of July, when you could fix the shed roof and do various other things, and welcomes a month of August with different characteristics, depending on the hemisphere you live in.

But it also uses the month of August to bring back memories of childhood, adolescence, or youth, that period when "problem" was truly our first name, and when many of us had very little, yet were happy with the little material things we had because the feelings of love from our parents, siblings, and other close circles abounded.

It's true that technology has prevented many face-to-face conversations, but we are still the humans who decide what to do with our lives and how to treat each other.

Thanks for sharing.

Happy Monday and a better week.

Cheers and greetings.

Reading Hardy Boys or Secret Seven books in the 1960s ones imagination took to reality in the garden or veld where we played most days. Siblings and neighbourhood friends always derived amazing ideas.

1970s coffee bars, movies, flea markets all held charm, music was our first love in record bars or live concerts, it will be our last I think as well.

We have learned many crazy things, yet somehow feel the youth are not seeing opportunity/experience in comparison to what we had before invention of small screens.

Have a great week and thanks for popping in to leave comment, savouring the past for a short stint in time.
