This is a town where photographs seem to follow you when you go out on the street. I often think that every step I take on these streets without my camera is a missed photo opportunity.

Este es un pueblo en donde las fotografías parecen perseguirte cuando sales a la calle. Con frecuencia suelo pensar que cada paso dado en estas calles sin llevar mi cámara, es una oportunidad de hacer fotos que se pierde.

"Guachi" / _"Guachi"

Guachi (whose real name is Juan Vicente) appeared screaming in the middle of the street about 100 meters away, he shouted out loud: "Jesus, come take a picture of me before I go to cut my hair"... Can you imagine the faces of the few people who were walking around?... Juan Vicente is a young man, maybe around 30 years old, his mother worked as my younger sister's nanny, I remember seeing him wandering the streets of the neighborhood when he was a little boy, time has really gone by fast.

Guachi (cuyo nombre real es Juan Vicente) apareció gritando en plena calle a unos 100 metros de distancia, ha gritado a voz en cuello: "Jesús, ven hazme una foto antes de irme a cortar mi cabello"... ¿Pueden imaginar las caras de las pocas personas que caminaban alrededor?... Vicente es un hombre joven, quizás ronde los 30 años, su madre trabajó como nana de mi hermana menor, recuerdo verlo deambular en las calles del vecindario cuando era un niño pequeño, realmente el tiempo ha pasado rápido.

"Carlitos at 81 years old" / _{"Carlitos a sus 81"}

Carlitos has recently turned 81 years old and to be honest neither he nor his body seem to take any notice of that. And as if to leave no doubt, Carlitos takes old gnarled tree roots and turns them into piles of small pieces of firewood to cook with his axe. This is something Carlitos does on a daily basis and it never ceases to amaze and be a source of admiration for both friends and strangers.

Carlitos ha cumplido recientemente sus 81 años y para ser sinceros ni él ni su cuerpo parecen darse por enterados de eso. Y como para no dejar dudas, Carlitos saca viejas raíces nudosas de árboles y los convierte en montones de astillas de leña para cocinar con su hacha. Esto es algo lo cual Carlitos hace a diario y no deja de sorprender y ser motivo de admiración para propios y extraños.

Not every photo has to have a story for me. Sometimes I just see someone and I take a picture. At first glance it may seem like a dull image with no message, but when I'm at my PC editing everything changes and I understand why I had the impulse to shoot that photo.

No todas las fotos tienen que tener una historia para mi. Algunas veces simplemente veo a alguien y disparo una foto. De primera intención puede parecerme una imagen sonsa o sin mensaje, pero cuando estoy en mi PC editando todo cambia y entiendo el porqué tuve el impulso de disparar aquella foto.

Street photography, at least in towns like this one, is charged with intense emotionality. So, I can't deny this, sometimes I tend to overlook technique and just shoot without thinking too much. This causes me to subsequently have some photos with various problems such as blur, shake, too much light or excessive shadows. But this is part of street photography itself I guess. So there is nothing left to do but try to deal with it and make the most of the image you have to work with.

La fotografía callejera, cuando menos poblados como este, es algo cargado de intensa emotividad. Entonces, no puedo negar esto, a veces suelo pasar por alto la técnica y simplemente disparo sin pensar demasiado. Esto hace que posteriormente me encuentre algunas fotos con problemas diversos como desenfoques, trepidaciones, demasiada luz o algún exceso de sombras. Pero esto es parte de la misma fotografía callejera supongo. Entonces no queda otra cosa por hacer más que intentar lidiar con eso y sacar el máximo provecho de la imagen que se tiene para trabajar.

Is becoming more and more common to see individuals or entire families pushing these sort of "clothes wagons" through the streets of town. This has now added to the visual drama I encounter on the streets. These are low-income people, who procure some money and food from other people's trash.... That's how hard life tends to be for some people here.

Cada vez es más común ver personas o familias enteras empujando estas especies de "carros de ropavejero" por las calles del pueblo. Esto ha venido ahora a incrementar el drama visual con el que me encuentro en las calles. Son personas de bajo recursos, quienes se procuran algo de dinero y alimentos con la basura de otros.. Así de dura suele ser la vida de algunos aquí.

"Reinaldo, bad mood and pigeons" / _{"Reinaldo, mal humor y palomas"}

Reinaldo tries to rest a little while leaning against a wall on the corner of a street. Reinaldo has never been a good-humored person. In fact, Reinaldo is known by everyone for "grumbling constantly" and so on the day I took this photo, Reinaldo was constantly shooing pigeons and shouting swear words at them... But the damned birds would take flight and immediately come back to bother Reinaldo! :)

Reinaldo procura descansar un poco recostado en una pared en la esquina de una calle. Reinaldo nunca ha sido una persona de buen humor. De hecho, Reinaldo es conocido por todos por "refunfuñar constantemente" y así es como el día que hice esta foto, Reinaldo estaba constante espantando a las palomas y gritándoles palabrotas... ¡Pero las condenadas aves alzaban el vuelo y de inmediato regresaban a molestar a Reinaldo! :)

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.

NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.
