DOUBLE EARTHQUAKE , THE DAY AFTER - (PHOTOGRAPHY STORIES)
What occurred yesterday here in Venezuela is certainly complicated to describe in a calm manner if one was here, in the very epicenter of what are already called by some in the town "the twin earthquakes," since it consisted of two earthquakes, both with an intensity over 7.1 on the Richter scale, separated by about 40 seconds and less than 28 km of distance between their epicenters. Something practically unimaginable, and we in Montalbán, it seems, were practically "on top" of all this... Certainly, the experience was terrible. But, strange as it may seem, in the municipality there was no loss of life, and only one of the towers of the Parochial Church suffered significant damage, in addition to some dividing walls and facades of houses in the town's urban center...

Algo prácticamente inimaginable y nosotros en Montalbán, al parecer, estábamos prácticamente "encima" de todo esto... Ciertamente, la experiencia fue terrible. Pero, por extraño que parezca, en el municipio no hubo pérdida de vidas y solo una de las torres de la Iglesia Parroquial sufrió daños significativos, además de algunas paredes divisorias y fachadas de casas en el casco urbano del pueblo...

My personal experience during the consecutive earthquakes was quite intense, since they surprised me while I was inside one of the rooms of my house, which was built more than 120 years ago and has heavy ceilings made of thick timbers and clay-tile roofs fixed with mortar. Suddenly, everything began to move and a hole even appeared in the highest part of the roof. The electricity was cut off immediately, but precisely the light coming through that hole in the ceiling illuminated one of the doors of the room, and I was able to run out into the outdoor garden, where my daughter was already screaming in panic. Since there were two earthquakes with a combined duration of more than a minute, I think, everything around us creaked and an intense kind of humming seemed to come from beneath the earth. Then, everything calmed down and only the screams of the people in the town's streets could be heard...
Mi experiencia personal durante los sismos consecutivos fue bastante intensa, pues me sorprendieron estando dentro de una de las habitaciones de mi casa, la cual tiene más de 120 años de construida y posee pesados techos de gruesos maderos y tejas de arcilla fijadas con argamasa. Repentinamente, todo comenzó a moverse e incluso apareció un boquete en la parte más alta del tejado. La electricidad se cortó de inmediato, pero precisamente la luz entrante por ese boquete en el techo iluminó una de las puertas de la habitación y pude salir corriendo hacia el jardín exterior, donde ya estaba mi hija, quien gritaba presa del pánico. Como fueron dos sismos con una duración combinada de más de un minuto, creo, todo a nuestro alrededor crujía y una especie de zumbido intenso parecía venir desde debajo de la tierra. Luego, todo se calmó y solo se escuchaban los gritos de las personas en las calles del pueblo...
After calming down and ensuring everyone was safe (including my wife, who was not at home, and my 80-year-old mother, who lives in a house annexed to ours), I turned on a small gasoline-powered electric generator (very common here given the constant power failures) and we were able to restore communication, thereby confirming that all our relatives nationwide were fine, as well as updating those living in other countries. But the night was terrible, for we could sleep very little, and multiple aftershocks occurred, although of lesser intensity...

The photos accompanying this account were taken this morning. I went out to take them around 6:30 AM on a short walk through the town center. Somehow, I and others are still a bit shaken by what happened, and it might be days before we all return to some semblance of normalcy.

What a tremendous event with a pair of earthquakes. Unbelievable how strong they were and so close to each other. It is very rare, scientists say. I hope you and your family are well. Yo me hice la misma pregunta, porque los epicentros y ciudades más cercanas no sufrieron tanto. Investigando encontré la explicación de antiguos directivos y personal de funvisi, de nacionalidad española que vivieron y estudiaron las fallas y terrenos de nuestro país por años.
Básicamente la onda se traslado por toda la falla que parte desde Yaracuy - Altos de Carabobo, por frente la costa venezolana, la llamada falla del Pilar que llega hasta Sucre, afectando los lugares cuyo terreno es de material "más suave", recuerda la Guaira es puro relleno.
Lo increíble es que estos científicos predecían este terremoto desde los años 90, ya que el de Caracas de 1812 que dejo más de 12k muertos tuvo el mismo epicentro, pero como sabrá, estás instituciones quedaron en el abandono hace años al igual que sus trabajos.
Me alegro que sólo fueron daños menores y un enorme susto. Por aquí también fue así, pero qué terrible lo que sucedió en otras zonas :(

Bueno, que te puedo decir, ya sabes que me la paso escribiendo en Hive sobre toda iglesia católica que me topo aquí en Caracas y en lugares que he podido conocer en el exterior, pero con mucho dolor las he visto heridas a todas ellas aquí en el centro de Caracas, tal cual como las imágenes que compartes hoy. Sorprendido de que la gente aún se reúna en las afueras para celebrar la misa, además de muy conmovido. Me alegra saber que estás bien, sé que estás más cerca que yo del epicentro, aunque la sacudida aquí en Caracas fue BRUTAL!!!! Me siento bendecido de estarlo escribiendo hoy 🙏

Esta tragedia que ha golpeado a nuestro país me tiene el corazón roto y agradecida a la vez de que mi familia está bien y a salvo, pero es desolador lo que ha pasado y lo extenso de la devastación hace que de alguna u otra forma uno conozca de personas directamente afectadas por los efectos del terremoto. Me alegra que estés bien @jlinaresp 🙏 y sí, estuve viendo por allí que en el epicentro no hubo tanta tragedia como en La Guaira y Caracas... donde estoy se sintió de terror y agradezco a Dios que mi edificio aguantó los dos terremotos, no sé si por allá pudieron percibir ambos exactamente, (muchos dicen que solo sintieron uno), por acá sentimos el primero, luego se detuvo un poco para luego reanudar el temblor con mayor intensidad y duración a 7.5. Eso fue eterno... aquel polvero que soltó el edificio, los gritos de la gente... tenemos demasiada suerte de contarlo, no podemos decir lo mismo de la cantidad de personas que perdieron su hogar y a sus familiares, me da mucha impotencia lo que estamos pasando.
