Hola amigos de #Hive, mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy es acerca de mi y de la fotografía callejera... Así que esto quizás les resulte interesante... ✍📷

I started taking pictures as a hobby back in late 2003 and early 2004, thanks to a work stress crisis and the recommendation of a psychologist who by the way ended up selling costume jewelry in Mexico City (I guess thanks to me)...

Comencé a hacer fotografías como afición allá por finales del 2003 y comienzos del 2004, gracias a una crisis de stress laboral y a la recomendación de un psicólogo quien por cierto terminó vendiendo bisuterías en ciudad de México (Supongo que gracias a mi)..

For a long time I was only taking pictures in nature.... I used to photograph landscapes, I became fond of taking macro shots of insects and flowers, I also used to visit nature reserves to photograph larger animals, rivers, mountains, in short.... I had become a sort of "amateur nature photographer"... I even became a member of entomology groups and learned to identify insects quite accurately, I also donated a lot of photos to local scientific and educational institutions!...

Durante mucho tiempo solo hacía fotografías en la naturaleza... Solía fotografiar paisajes, me aficioné a hacer macros de insectos y de flores, también solía visitar reservas naturales para fotografiar animales más grandes, ríos, montañas, en fin... Me había convertido en una especie de "fotógrafo naturalista aficionado"... ¡Inclusive llegué a afiliarme en grupos de entomología y aprendía a identificar insectos con bastante precisión, también doné muchas fotos para instituciones científicas y educativas locales!...

But in 2012 I finally decided to quit my job as a technology manager at a local corporation (in other words, I got tired of it all).... So I opened a small electronics store in a town near my home town... That allowed me to have some free time during lunch hours... And guess what... I started to bring my camera to my store and take some pictures in the street after lunch!...

Pero en el año 2012 finalmente decidí dejar mi trabajo como gerente nacional de tecnología en una corporación empresa local (en otras palabras, me cansé de todo aquello)... Entonces abrí una pequeña tienda de artículos electrónicos en un pueblo cercano al mio... Eso me permitió tener tiempo libre durante las horas del almuerzo... Y ¿Adivinen?... ¡Comencé a llevar mi cámara a mi tienda y hacer algunas fotografías en la calle después del almuerzo!...

At the beginning I walked through the streets of that other town (called "Bejuma") and only took pictures of doors, windows, some old vehicles and some open plane street shots... I started to use those photos as part of the publicity of my business in that place and people liked that... During the weekends I didn't work in the store, so I could use them to start doing the same in the streets of my town (Montalbán)...

Al principio caminaba por las calles de es otro pueblo (llamado "Bejuma") y hacía solo fotos de puertas, ventanas, algunos vehículos viejos y algunas tomas callejeras de plano abierto... Comencé a usar esas fotos como parre de la publicidad de mi negocio en aquel lugar y eso le gustó a las personas... Durante los fines de semana no trabajaba en la tienda, así que pude disponer de ellos para comenzar a hacer lo mismo en las calles de mi pueblo (Montalbán)...

Gradually I learned to do this and it was quite common for me to go out on the streets to take photos and then post them on social networks, however they were not "close up photos" and very few of them featured people, except in some cases photographed from quite far away.... But by 2018 or so, here in my town I was already quite well known for spending time in the streets with a camera hanging around my neck...

Gradualmente fui aprendiendo a hacer esto y era bastante común que saliese a las calles a hacer fotos y que luego las publicase en las redes sociales, sin embargo no se trataba de "fotos cercanas" y en muy pocas de ellas aparecían personas, salvo en algunos casos fotografiadas desde bastante lejos... Pero para el 2018 aproximadamente, aquí en mi pueblo ya era bastante conocido por pasar tiempo en las calles con una cámara colgada al cuello...

Little by little, street photography became a part of me... And the final turning point came in March 2020, when the pandemic forced the national authorities to impose severe restrictions on the population in order to minimize contagion... Then my wife and I decided to close our store and technically "seclude ourselves in Montalbán"... At first it was hard, especially because of the severe decrease in our income, but fortunately we were able to manage in various ways and maintain a certain stability... We are a married couple in our fifties, but we started our life together very young (at the age of 18, when we were still in college), so our children are already independent and our expenses are quite manageable... That helped us a lot...

Poco a poco, la fotografía callejera se convirtió en parte de mi mismo... Y el punto de inflexión definitivo fue en Marzo de 2020, cuando la pandemia obligó a las autoridades nacionales a imponer severas restricciones a la población en orden de minimizar los contagios... Entonces mi esposa y yo decidimos cerrar nuestra tienda y técnicamente "recluirnos en Montalbán"... Al principio fue duro, especialmente por la severa disminución de nuestros ingresos, pero afortunadamente pudimos ingeniárnoslas de diversas maneras y mantener cierta estabilidad... Somos un matrimonio de cincuentones, pero comenzamos nuestra vida juntos siendo muy jóvenes (a los 18 años, cuando aún estábamos en la universidad) , así que nuestro hijos ya están independizados y nuestros gastos son bastante manejables... Eso nos ayudó mucho...

And obviously... I had a lot of free time to go out in the streets to take pictures!... And I did!... 2020, 2021 and part of 2022 were complicated years and the streets of this town transmitted all the drama of poverty, the economic crisis, the pandemic, people getting sick and dying, children not going to school... It was something incredible to see and to live so close... But I also experienced first hand the hope, the optimism, the resilience, the strength and faith of all these wonderful people I have in my streets.... Despite the harshness of the situation, they were still there, always trying to get through it and smile...

Y obviamente... ¡Yo tuve un montón de tiempo libre para salir a las calles a hacer fotos!... ¡Y vaya que sí lo hice!... 2020, 2021 y parte de 2022 fueron años complicados y las calles de este pueblo transmitían todo el drama de la pobreza, la crisis económica, la pandemia, las personas enfermando y feneciendo, los niños sin ir a la escuela... Era algo increíble de ver y de vivir tan de cerca... Pero también experimenté de primera mano la esperanza, el optimismo, la resiliencia, la fuerza y la fe de toda esta gente maravillosa que tengo en mis calles... A pesar de lo duro de la situación, ellos seguía allí siempre, procurando salir adelante y esbozar una sonrisa...

One day, walking down a street with my camera in my hands, looking for something to photograph, a little girl came out of the door of her house and looked at me from a few meters away...Then she yells: "Mom, mom... Here comes the crazy guy with the camera!" 😂😂😂... I think that from that day on I understood that I had "become part of those streets that I loved so much"... And when this happened, I began to take more intimate, more human, more complex photos... My first street portraits appeared , I learned to blend in with people, I fell even more in love with the streets of my town, to the point that I take pictures almost daily in them... I'm a happy fifty-something crazy with a camera in a small and humane town! ...

Un día, caminando por una calle con mi cámara en las manos, buscando algo para fotografiar, una pequeña niña salió a la puerta de su casa y me observó desde unos cincuenta metros de distancia... Entonces ella gritó: "Mamá, mamá... ¡Allá viene el señor loco con la cámara!" 😂😂😂... Creo que desde ese día entendí que yo me "había convertido en parte de esas calles que tanto amaba"... Y ciando esto sucedió, comencé a hacer fotos mas intimas, mas humana, mas complejas... Aparecieron mis primeros retratos de calle, aprendí a fundirme con las personas, me enamoré aún más de las calles de mi pueblo, hasta el punto de que hago fotografías casi a diario en ellas... ¡Soy un feliz cincuentón loco con una cámara en un pueblo pequeño y humano!...

And by the way, I have to thank #Hive for helping me take my love of street photography to "another level"... Also here in this community of the @monochromes team I found a wonderful niche to share my photos and my experiences in black and white, something very lucky for me, because I have always thought that street photography and black and white are intimately linked... It's so much so that sometimes, before taking a photo, I feel that I see the scene in white and black (So it may be true that "the crazy guy with the camera" is a bit crazy)... 😂😂😂

Y por cierto, tengo que agradecer a #Hive el haberme ayudado a llevar a "otro nivel" mi afición por la fotografía callejera... También aquí en esta comunidad del equipo @monochromes encontré un nicho maravilloso para compartir mis fotos y mis experiencias en blanco y negro, algo muy afortunado para mi, pues siempre he pensado que la fotografía callejera y el blanco y negro son cosas íntimamente ligadas... Tanto, que a veces, antes de hacer una foto, siento que veo la escena en blanco y negro (Entonces sí puede ser cierto que "el tipo loco con la cámara" esté un poco chiflado)... 😂😂😂
