Well, I actually did a bit of an "exercise in freedom" processing and editing these selected photos from my files today... I started by choosing images with bright, expansive spaces and surfaces; they also had to have their counterpart in shadows and dark tones, and obviously, they had to be street scenes... Then I sat down at my PC and invested more time in each photo, pushing the whites so close to overexposure that they were almost jarring, doing the same with the highlights, darks, and shadows, until I achieved results that, to my ears, made each photo feel like it was "screaming." But all of this that I'm describing here is something I do relatively frequently, since I process my photos almost daily, as for me, this is my "daily catharsis"... So, this whole "contrast" thing ultimately led me to delve into thoughts and musings, rather than into processing and editing techniques...

Bien, en realidad hice un "ejercicio de libertad" procesando y editando estas fotos seleccionadas de entre mis archivos hoy... Comencé escogiendo imágenes con espacios y superficies luminosos y amplios, también debían tener su contrapartida de sombreas y tonos obscuros, y obviamente debían ser de calles... Entonces me senté frente a mi PC e invertí más tiempo en cada foto, llevado los blancos tan al borde de la sobreexposición como para que incluso hiriesen un poco la mirada, también haciendo lo mismo con los claros, los obscuros y las sombras, hasta conseguir resultados los cuales para mis efectos, era como si estuviese haciendo casi "gritar cada foto". Pero todo esto que describo aquí, es algo que hago con relativa frecuencia, pues proceso mis fotos casi a diario, ya que para mi esto es mi "catarsis cotidiana"... Así que eso de los "contrastes" me llevó finalmente a sumergirme en pensamientos y cavilaciones, más que en cuestiones de técnicas de procesado y edición...

When I think about "contrasts," much more than photographic concepts, levels, intensity, or anything like that comes to mind. When I think about contrasts, I also think about the distance between people's spirits here and the reality many are currently living in. It's no secret that these are hard times in my country, especially when you live in small towns like mine, where the local economy seems to shrink more and more with each passing day. And yet, the spirits of most people here remain strong and are difficult to break. Some call it "resilience," others call it "innocence." But whatever the case, it's something that never ceases to amaze me, because I myself am able to find ways to be as positive as possible despite life's challenges. I suppose that's a good thing, and I suppose that's part of being human...

Y es que cuando yo pienso en "contrastes" vienen a mi mente mucho más que conceptos fotográficos, niveles, intensidad o cosas por el estilo... Cuando pienso en contrastes, también pienso en la distancia que existe entre el ánimo de las personas aquí y la realidad en la que muchos viven actualmente... Para nadie es un secreto que estos son tiempos duros en mi país y mucho más cuando se vive en pueblos pequeños como el mío, en donde la economía local parece comprimirse más y más con el paso de los días. Y sin embargo, el animo de la mayoría de las personas aquí, se mantiene y es difícil de quebrar... Algunos lo llaman "resiliencia" y otros lo llaman "inocencia". Pero sea cual sea el caso, es algo con lo cual no dejo de asombrarme, pues yo mismo soy capaz a diario de encontrar maneras de estar lo mejor posible a pesar de los escollos de la vida diaria... Supongo que eso es bueno y supongo que eso es parte misma de el hecho de ser humano...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
