Sometimes, some mornings better said, and especially on foggy mornings, the streets of Montalbán seem to want to defy at all costs the dense atmosphere that hovers over the town... In those mornings full of that kind of battle between the people in the streets and the weather stubborn to make everything slow, I am sometimes... Because this is a town of “sometimes” where there doesn't seem to be a pattern for almost anything that happens here... And maybe that's because I can walk through it every day and at the same time imagine it differently today than yesterday...

Algunas veces, algunas mañanas mejor dicho, y muy especialmente las mañanas con niebla, las calles de Montalbán parecen querer desafiar a toda costa la atmósfera densa que se cierne sobre el pueblo... En esas mañanas cargadas de esa especie de batalla entre las personas en las calles y el clima empecinado en hacer todo lento, suelo estar yo algunas veces... Porque este es un pueblo de "algunas veces" en donde no parece haber un patrón para casi nada de lo que aquí ocurre... Y quizás es por que lo puedo recorrer a diario y al mismo tiempo imaginarlo distinto hoy que ayer...

These are simpler photos of my streets... They are photos captured and even processed and edited in a diaphanous and almost unworried way. In fact, I have not put individual titles on these photos today because I don't think they have them per se.... However, they could all be called “streets awakening” because that's what they are. Yes, they are definitely “streets awakening” now that I think about it....

Estas son fotos más simples de mis calles... Son fotos capturadas e incluso procesadas y editadas de una manera diáfana y casi despreocupada. De hecho, hoy no he puesto títulos individuales en estas fotos porque creo que ellas no los tienen en sí... Sin embargo, todas podrían llamarse "calles despertando" porque son eso. Sí, definitivamente, son "calles despertando" ahora que lo pienso...

By the way, I see in these photos many streets where there are nice old one- floor houses with clay tile roofs and at the same time you can observe those ugly newer constructions, almost always square looking and in very bad taste of design, some half finished and others even in abandonment. And then I remember the words of our local chronicler (a fervent defender of colonial architecture) who usually says something like: “Montalbán is a town that had the misfortune of wanting to have a couple of floors higher, but that only served to give birth to abominations with concrete and tin roofs”... I think that statement is a bit “strong”, but it also seems to me that it has a lot of validity if you take into account the “architectural absurdities” that can be seen in some parts of the town, attacking the vision of all... But, that's life, I guess...

Por cierto, veo en estas fotos muchas calles en donde hay lindas casas viejas de una sola planta con techumbres de tejas de arcilla y al mismo tiempo se pueden observar esas horribles construcciones más nuevas, casi siempre de aspecto cuadrado y de muy mal gusto de diseño, algunas a medio terminar y otras incluso en abandono. Y entonces recuerdo las palabras de nuestro cronista local (un ferviente defensor de la arquitectura colonial) quien suele decir algo como: "Montalbán es un pueblo que tuvo la desdicha de querer tener un par de pisos más de altura, pero eso solo sirvió para dar a luz abominaciones con techos de concreto y latas"... Me parece que esa aseveración es un poco "fuerte", pero también me parece que tiene bastante validez si se toman en cuenta los "esperpento arquitectónicos" que se pueden ver en algunas partes del pueblo agrediendo la visión de todos... Pero, así es la vida, supongo...

Anyway, Montalbán is still a bifid town, or sometimes it can even look like “several towns overlapping each other or touching each other at the edges”... These photos which I share today, are pictures taken to the west of the town, what people here call “from the square to down” and these are streets where there are more stores, there are some schools and nearby is the only fuel station that is here. So this makes that “hybrid” effect where the streets seem to want to wake up from a night's sleep at all costs...

De cualquier manera, Montalbán sique siendo un pueblo bífido, o incluso puede en ocasiones puede parecer "varios pueblos solapándose unos sobre otros o tocándose entre sí en sus bordes"... Estas fotos las cuales comparto hoy, son fotografías hechas al Oeste del pueblo, lo que las personas aquí llaman "de la plaza para abajo" y estas son calles en donde hay más comercios, hay algunas escuelas y cerca está la única estación de venta de combustible que hay aquí. Entonces esto hace que se forme ese efecto "hibrido" en donde las calles parecen querer despertar de una noche de sueño a todo costa...
