This series of twelve photographs is more or less a "photographic exercise". An attempt, let's say, to take my concept of street photography a step further than everyday scenes and portraits...

Those of you who follow me on #Hive (thanks for that, as always) know that I live in a small town in the central region of Venezuela called "Montalbán" and you also know that this is where I do most of my photographic work.

This is a place where the economic situation is very complex. So it is common to see deterioration everywhere, because something as simple as "painting a wall" is synonymous for many people of "no more food to put in their mouths". So this is very clearly reflected in the condition of the structures, turning walls and facades into real "tell-tale" of how difficult the situation is here...

Then, over the years, I've noticed interesting things like walls with layers of old paint gradually wearing off and blending together, rusted metal doors, walls with cracks and beading, or a simple sign faded by time. So with some frequency I take pictures of those street elements other than everyday street scenes and portraits of people. I found it very interesting to make this selection and share it. There is a lot of chromatism, drama, abstraction and time reflected in these photos, according to my particular perception.

I also did some additional editing of these photos in monochrome versions. There is always some additional magic and eloquence when the color disappears from this kind of images and their whole visual plane becomes a dance of lights, shadows and diverse contrasts. So I presume that for you this may also be attractive and interesting to see. Below I am posting these photos taken to monochrome, I made use of something I call "vintage black and white" where I add attenuated layers of between 1% and 5% yellow to the pure black and white photo. After adding that layer I adjust the contrast and depth again at my discretion. Please click on the photos to enlarge...
