Hello monochromatic #Hive friends... Welcome to a new edition of my black and white street photography series "Stolen Stories". 2024 has begun and the town is still there, unchanging, with its stories "floating" in its streets and with me wandering everywhere looking to steal them with my camera, to share them with you as my entry to today's #monomad challenge.

Hola amigos monocromáticos de #Hive!... Bienvenidos a una nueva edición de mi serie de fotografías callejeras en blanco y negro "Historias Robadas". El 2024 ha comenzado y el pueblo sigue allí, inmutable, con sus historias "flotando" en sus calles y conmigo deambulando en todas partes buscando como robarlas con mi cámara, para compartirlas con ustedes como mi entrada al reto #monomad de hoy.

"Erbin"/_"Erbin"

Erbin has been my friend since we were both kids. We grew up on the same streets, playing and spending time in the company of other kids from the neighbourhood. I see him almost every day when I go out to take street photos or walk for exercise. Erbin has been asking me to take his portrait for a long time, but I told him that I would take his portrait when I had a chance to find him distracted from posing. So it was that at the end of last month I noticed him in the street distractedly looking at some street musicians. So I got my camera ready and called out to him to take advantage of the moment when Erbin turned his face and shot this picture... CLICK!

Erbin es mi amigo desde que ambos eramos niños. Crecimos en las mismas calles, jugando y pasando en tiempo en compañía de otros chicos del barrio. Le veo casi a diario cuando salgo a hacer fotos de calles o a caminar para ejercitarme. Erbin me ha pedido que le haga un retrato desde hace mucho tiempo atrás, pero le he dicho que haría ese retrato cuando yo tuviese la oportunidad de encontrarlo distraído para evitar que él posase. Así fue como a finales del mes pasado le observé en la calle distraído mirando a algunos músicos callejeros. Entonces preparé mi cámara y le llamé en voz alta para aprovechar el momento en el que Erbin girase su rostro y disparar esta foto... ¡CLICK!

"Jorge"/_"Jorge"

Jorge is also a person from our neighbourhood and a good friend, he was part of the group of traditional musicians that Erbin (previous shot) was observing when I took his portrait. I didn't really recognise Jorge at the time I took this picture, but I saw him a few days later in the street and he said to me: "Hey, you took a picture of me last week, I was the guy with the paint in my hands", I immediately remembered the picture and soon after I sent it to him so he could have it for himself. These traditional musical groups usually commemorate some religious and historical dates in the streets of the village. In fact, this group of which Jorge is a member is called "Kaituco" and is recognised as a cultural heritage of our region. It is a nice thing to see in the streets of the village several times a year.

Jorge es también una persona de nuestro vecindario y un buen amigo, él estaba formado parte del grupo de músicos tradicionales a los cuales Erbin (foto anterior) observaba cuando hice su retrato. En realidad no reconocí a Jorge en el momento en el cual hice esta foto, pero le vi poco días después en la calle y entonces me dijo: "Hey, me hiciste una foto la semana pasada, yo era el tipo con la pintura en las manos", de inmediato recordé la foto y poco después se la envié para que la tuviese para sí. Estos grupos musicales tradicionales suelen conmemorar algunas fechas religiosas e históricas por las calles del pueblo. De hecho, este grupo del cual forma parte Jorge se llama "Kaituco" y está reconocido como patrimonio cultural de nuestra región. Es algo bonito de ver por las calles del pueblos varias veces al año.

"Carlos sweeping at the cross corner"/_{"Carlos barriendo en la esquina de la cruz"}

Carlos does not like to be photographed (portraits specifically). But that hasn't stopped me from passing by the street and taking a photo of him as he works sweeping the streets of the village and his face looks down. Carlos is a good man, a bricklayer by trade and sometimes also a farmer. For as long as I have known him, Carlos has always liked to clean and maintain places associated with the Catholic religion. He does it in the parish church as well as in the small chapels and religious monuments of the village. I understand that for some time now, the municipal office has assigned him a small salary as a reward for his continuous work.

A Carlos no le place que le hagan retratos. Pero eso no ha evitado que yo pase por la calle y haga una foto de él mientras trabaja barriendo las calles del pueblo y su rostro mira hacia abajo. Carlos es un buen hombre, es albañil de profesión y a veces también agricultor. Desde que le conozco, Carlos siempre ha gustado de limpiar y mantener lugares asociados a la religión católica. Igual lo hace en la Iglesia Parroquial, que en las pequeñas capillas y monumentos religiosos del pueblo.
Tengo entendido que desde hace algún tiempo para acá, la oficina municipal le ha asignado un pequeño sueldo como premio a su continua labor.

"In the old school I"/_{"En la vieja escuela I"}

I thought the facade of the old school would totally fall down in 2023, but it didn't. Its massive walls and huge windows are still standing, resisting time and weather. Its thick walls and huge windows are still standing, resisting time and weather. Its roof fell down a couple of years ago and inside, the plants have already started to grow... It is a pity, because in this school many people who did not know how to read and write learned to do so in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Already in the 1950s many young women from the village were trained as seamstresses and assistants or secretaries. There were also courses in blacksmithing and carpentry for youngs. But at the end of the 1990s, this school stopped receiving resources from governmental teams and never functioned again.

Pensé que la fachada de la vieja escuela caería totalmente en 2023, pero no fue así. Sus gruesas paredes y enormes ventanas siguen de pie resistiendo el tiempo y la intemperie. Su techumbre cayó hace un par de años y en su interior ya las plantas han comenzado a crecer... Es una lástima, en esta escuela muchas personas que no sabían leer ni escribir, aprendieron a hacerlo desde los años 20 y 30 del siglo XX. Ya en los años 50 muchas jóvenes mujeres del pueblo recibieron capacitación como costureras y asistentes o secretarias. También se dictaron cursos de herrería y carpintería. Pero a finales de los años 90 esta escuela dejó de recibir recursos provenientes de los entes gubernamentales y no volvió a funcionar nunca más.

"Guachi's wheelbarrow"/_{"La carretilla de Guachi"}

That strange Guachi's wheelbarrow always seems to be a natural "photographic target" for me... Guachí, its owner and manufacturer, uses it pulled by his motorbike or even pushed by himself. He can use it to carry food for the pigs, sometimes he can carry a pig himself, I have also seen him carrying his small children there and (like this time) large amounts of firewood for cooking. So I think that in this 2024 I will be more attentive to what happens with Guachi and his wheelbarrow, as I am sure I will find a lot of pictures to take there.

Esa extraña carretilla de Guachi parece ser siempre un "objetivo fotográfico" natural para mi... Guchí, su dueño y fabricante, la usa tirada por su motocicleta o incluso empujada por el mismo. Lo mismo puede usarla para cargar comida para los cerdos, a veces puede llevar un cerdo mismo, también lo he visto llevando a sus pequeños hijos allí y (como esta vez) grandes cantidades de leña para cocinar. Así que creo que en este 2024 estaré más atento a lo que sucede con Guachi y su carretilla, pues estoy que allí encontraré un montón de fotos para hacer.

"Imminent new neighbour"/_{"Nuevo vecino inminente"}

A few streets away from my house, a couple of donkeys belonging to one family, are celebrating. Mrs. Donkey" (left) is carrying a baby in her womb and it is possible that by the first quarter of 2024 we may see a new "Baby Donkey" walking the streets with her parents. It is a curious thing, but in recent years the population of donkeys, mules and horses has seen a significant upturn due to the fuel crisis we are experiencing and the high maintenance costs of working vehicles. At the end of the last century we hardly ever saw these animals in the village. But as you can see in many of my photos, they are now commonplace.

A pocas calles de mi casa, la pareja de burros perteneciente a una familia está de enhorabuena. La "Sra. Burro" (izquierda) lleva un bebé en su vientre y posible que para el primer trimestre del 2024 podemos observar a un nuevo "Bebé Borrico" caminando por las calles junto con sus padres. Es algo curioso, pero desde hace pocos años la población de burros, mulas y caballos, ha tenido un repunte significativo debido a la crisis de combustible que vivimos y a los altos costes de mantenimiento de los vehículos de trabajo. A finales del siglo pasado ya casi no veíamos estos animales en el pueblo. Pero tal como pueden ver en muchas de mis fotos, ahora es algo común.

"Buddies "/_"Compinches"

Montalbán is a town with many stray dogs, most of them leading a good life thanks to the good work of the neighbours who are always attentive and ready to help these animals, which are an important part of everyone's lives here in Montalbán. This lovely photo called "Buddies" I think it was the first photo I took with dogs in 2024.... Don't you think it's lovely? It is a chihuahua dog (belonging to a family) going down the street with her stray friend, they are bound to get into mischief, but they look cute together and are a clear demonstration of how much purity and solidarity there can be in these lovely friends of ours.

Montalbán es un pueblo con muchos perros callejeros, la mayoría de ellos llevando una buena vida gracias al buen hacer de los vecinos siempre atentos y prestos a ayudar a estos animales, los cuales forman parte importante de las vidas de todos aquí en Montalbán. Esta encantadora foto llamada "Compinches" creo que fue la primera foto con perritos que hice en 2024... ¿No les parece encantadora?... Se trata de una perrita chihuahua (perteneciente a una familia) yendo por la calle con su amigo callejero, seguramente van a hacer alguna travesura, pero lo cierto es que lucen lindos juntos y son una demostración clara de cuanta pureza y solidaridad puede haber en el estos encantadores amigos nuestros.
