SEQUENCE - (PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES)

After spending more than three hours selecting, processing and editing these photographs, it occurred to me that "SEQUENCE" was an ideal title for this series, as it is certainly a series of photos of the streets of Montalbán taken from the moment I left my house, until I began to leave the town and enter a rural road... And well, these photos are certainly that, a "sequence"; But that word, that title I mean, perhaps was nothing more than a trick of my mind, designed to start talking to myself about the gradual way in which, throughout my 55 years, I have witnessed the transformation from a prosperous and thriving town to this handful of decaying streets it is today... And I don't say all this as a way of lamenting, but as a witness to all of this, even as someone who finds a certain romanticism in all this decline, because if things hadn't happened this way, perhaps I wouldn't have the depth of thought to understand how a society can degenerate to the point it has here...

In my circle, among family, friends, and even casual acquaintances, there are always those who, without much subtlety, frequently call me crazy or something similar because of my habit of thoroughly exploring and photographing the decay of this town's streets. Most of the time, it doesn't go beyond the occasional amusing conversation, but sometimes I've had to deal with those who have gone so far as to accuse me of "enjoying" all this decline and its consequences. I used to try to explain my fondness for photographing all this decay to others, but as the years have passed, I no longer do that and simply say things like, "Yes, I like taking photos like this." And the truth is, that's it; I find a certain fascination in observing how the town seems to slowly fragment and dissolve. I'm not saying that I like, prefer, or support this happening, but rather that, ultimately, I find it visually and psychologically interesting...

In short, this "sequence" of photographs seems to have somehow become a reminder of the town's decline, and this is something that frequently happens to me with my street photography. But even that is fascinating about decline; I mean, "it never has to happen in a different way each time," and it is surely because of this that I can pass by the same street several times in a single month and take a different photo each time, because that is what all this street drama is about: it mutates, changes, and transforms with astonishing ease...

STOPThis is a great introspective post about the views and attitudes of the local culture towards your interest in urban photography. Out here, people just call you an "eccentric artist" and leave you alone. To me, it seems that you're documenting a moment in time and later generations might one day thank you for showing how things used to be.
Thnaks a lot for this motivating comment @litguru friend!!!

Your photos capture the reality of a place and the changes it goes through over time. Great shots always!😍
This series of photographs of the streets of your village is the very sequence of that village’s life, as if with every step you take you were capturing the passage of time, as if every metre travelled were a year. I understand perfectly what you’re saying: to people, it’s as if you were condoning the village’s decline, but in reality I think what you’re doing is capturing moments and seeing art in that decline. It’s another perspective that perhaps many won’t see, but that decline isn’t down to you, nor is it your fault, so all you’re doing is capturing history, reality and the truth.
Thank you, as always, for your excellent work, a big hug!🤗

It’s like watching a city’s heartbeat slow
