Well, one day it had to happen and it did!.... And I'm talking about the fact that, one of those restless and elusive colourful lizards allowed me to do a very long photo shoot with a good amount of photos to share with you here on #Hive...

¡Bien, algún día tenía que suceder y sucedió!... Y me refiero a el hecho de que, una de esas inquietas y escurridizas lagartijas de colores me permitiese hacer una foto sesión muy larga con una buena cantidad de fotos para compartir con ustedes aquí en #Hive...

Rainbow whiptail lizards (Cnemidophorus lemniscatus) are usually the "just one picture and I'm gone" kind of reptile... But this juvenile male (I guess due his still-fading colors) for the first time ever caught my eye. It has provided the opportunity to take many photos of the same specimen... In fact, he seemed to be as interested in me as I was in him!

Las lagartijas cola de latigo arcoíris (Cnemidophorus lemniscatus) por lo general son el tipo de reptiles de: "Solo una foto y me marcho lejos"... Pero este macho juvenil (lo deduzco debido a sus colores aún tenues) por primera vez me ha brindado la oportunidad de hacer muchas fotos de un mismo espécimen... De hecho ¡Parecía estar tan interesado en mi, como yo en él!

These lizards usually inhabit the hills near my village, I have known this species since I was a child used to roam the country roads up into the mountains. The females are much smaller and practically brown in colour, but the males tend to develop very bright colours as they grow.

Estas lagartijas suelen habitar las colinas cercanas a mi pueblo, conozco esta especie desde que yo era un niño acostumbrado a vagar por los caminos rurales que suben hacia las montañas. Las hembras son mucho más pequeñas y prácticamente de color marrón, pero los machos suelen ir desarrollando colores muy vistosos en la medida en la que van creciendo.

Since I can remember, I am sure I have never before encountered any other specimen as tame and permissive as this one. In fact, I spent about 45 minutes taking pictures and watching him very closely. I was amazed to see him turn and walk on the log as if he was curious about me. When I spotted him, there were other specimens on that large tree trunk, but they all fled immediately when they sensed my presence, which is usually what they do unless you approach very stealthily.

Desde que tengo memoria, estoy seguro de no haber encontrado antes ningún otro ejemplar tan manso y permisivo como este. De hecho, estuve cerca de 45 minutos haciendo fotos y mirándole muy de cerca. Me asombró verlo girarse y caminar sobre el tronco como si estuviese sintiendo curiosidad por mí. Cuando lo avisté, había otros ejemplares en ese tronco de un árbol grande, pero todos escaparan de inmediato al sentir mi presencia, cosa la cual es por lo general lo que hacen a menos que uno se acerque con mucho sigilo.

It was not a sick specimen or anything like that. On the contrary, he looked very strong and healthy, he will surely grow up to be a very showy and territorial male. However, I was delighted with the attitude of this male lizard, as it allowed me to take pictures even of the details of its skin and legs, as well as "portraits" of its head. I actually regretted not having my 100mm macro lens at hand, as I had gone for a walk with my 55-300 zoom lens attached to the camera. But the working distance of this lens (1.5m at 300mm) allowed me to make the most of the occasion and take some pretty decent pictures. Although I admit that I had to "move a bit away from the lizard at times to be able to focus"... That's how peaceful and cooperative this guy was up there in that tree!

No se trataba de un ejemplar enfermo ni nada por el estilo. Por el contrario, lucía muy fuerte y sano, seguramente crecerá hasta ser un macho muy llamativo y territorial. Sin embargo, quedé encantado con la actitud de esta lagartija macho, pues me permitió hacer fotografías inclusive de los detalles de su piel y patas, además de sendos "retratos" de su cabeza. En realidad lamenté no tener a la mano mi objetivo macro de 100mm, pues había salido de caminata llevando mi zoom 55-300 colocado en la cámara. Pero la distancia de trabajo de este lente (1,5 mts a 300mm) me permitió aprovechar la ocasión y hacer fotos bastante decentes. Aunque reconozco que tuve que "alejarme un poco de la lagartija a veces para poder enfocar"... ¡Así de pacífico y colaborador era este tipo el cual me encontré en ese árbol!

I loved taking these photos!... I came home talking about it as happy as a child (my wife is already used to my "photojoy" outbursts, so all she does is smile)... I hope you These photographs have also been to your liking and have allowed you to appreciate the details of this attractive tropical reptile of our region.

¡Amé hacer estas fotos!... Llegué a mi casa hablando de esto, tan feliz como un niño (ya mi esposa está acostumbrada a mis arrebatos de "alegría fotográfica", así que todo lo que hace es sonreír)... Espero que estas fotografías también hayan sido del agrado de ustedes y les hayan permitido apreciar los detalles de este atractivo reptil tropical de nuestra región.

Technical note: All photos were taken in RAW format with a Nikon D7000 DSLR camera and further processed using Adobe Camera Raw for sharpening effects, contrast, color temperatures, cropping and even horizon adjustments and the like. Then, once taken to the desired point, they were exported to JPG format. Other minor adjustments, such as vignettes and adding watermarks, were made using PhotoScape 3.6.1.

Nota técnica: Todas las fotografías fueron hechas en formato RAW con una cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 y posteriormente procesadas usando Adobe Camera Raw para efectos de afilado, contraste, temperaturas de color, recortes e inclusive ajustes de horizonte y similares. Entocnes, una vez llevadas al punto deseado, fueron exportadas a formato JPG. Otros ajustes menores como viñetas y agregado de marcas de agua, fueron hechos usando PhotoScape 3.6.1.
