These photos are from the last Sunday of December. I took them all while I was near the main facade of our town's parish church. I had simply walked discreetly to one side of the central plaza to get a closer look at "Don Justo", who seemed to be dozing on a bench while waiting to go in for Mass (first photo). But as I was taking pictures of the old man, the loud ringing of the bell in the church's north tower, rung by an altar boy, made me turn my camera in that direction, and I immediately realized that there was a lot going on around the old church doors. So I decided to spend some time observing and photographing everything, and that's how I got these photos, which I'm sharing with you today on #Hive, and which, in a way, "tell a story" about that Sunday morning...

Estas fotografías son del ultimo domingo del pasado mes de Diciembre. Las hice todas estando en los alrededores de la fachada principal de la Iglesia parroquial de nuestro Pueblo. Yo la verdad, solo había caminado discretamente hasta uno de los bordes de la Plaza Central para observar más de cerca a "Don Justo" quien parecía dormitar sentado en una banca mientras esperaba para entra al tiempo a escuchar la misa (primera foto). Pero estando yo haciendo fotografías del anciano, el fuerte sonido de la campana de la torre Norte del templo, hechas sonar por un chico monaguillo, me hizo volver la foto hacia allí y de inmediato me percaté de que habían un montón de cosas sucediendo en los alrededores de las viejas puertas de la Iglesia. Entonces me decidí a dedicar algo de tiempo a observa y hacer fotografías de todo aquello, y es así como obtuve estas fotos las cuales comparto hoy con ustedes en #Hive y que, de alguna manera, "cuentan una historia" de esa mañana de Domingo...

That day I realized that my town still has a parish priest waiting outside his church for all the parishioners to enter before the service begins. There were also some children being baptized that Sunday, so it was busier than usual. Another thing that surprised me was seeing that now there are girls serving as altar servers, not just boys like when I was a child. The current parish priest (I think his name is Alexis; I've spoken with him, but I always forget people's names) has only been assigned to this parish for a few days, replacing one who was here for fifteen years. But it seems he's adapted easily and enjoys a lot of support among the parishioners, from what I've heard.

Ese día me percaté de que el mío es un pueblo en donde el párroco continua esperando fuera de su iglesia, a que entren todos los fieles antes de comenzar el servicio. También había bautismos de algunos niños ese Domingo, así que había mayor actividad de lo acostumbrado. Otra cosa que me sorprendió, fue ver que ahora hay también niñas haciendo las veces de monaguillos y no solo varones como en la época de cuando yo era un niño... El actual párroco (creo que su nombre es Alexis, ya he hablado con él, pero siempre olvido los nombres de las personas) tiene pocos días asignado a esta parroquia y sustituyó a uno que estuvo aquí por quince años, pero al parecer se le ha hecho fácil adaptarse y goza de mucho apoyo entre los feligreses, según he escuchado...

The entire time I was taking these photos, I was amused to observe people's behavior. Some waited outside for the service to begin. Others, on the contrary, seemed content to wait for almost an hour inside the church, sitting on the old, uncomfortable wooden pews in the central area. Some preferred plastic chairs, which they placed in the side aisles. There were also those who simply stopped in front of one of the doors, said a prayer, crossed themselves, and then left. I truly hadn't realized how interesting the front of the church could be on a Sunday for taking some rather unusual street photography...

Todo el tiempo que estuve haciendo estas fotos, me entretuve observando el comportamiento de las personas. Algunos esperan afuera el comienzo del servicio religioso. Otros por el contrario parecen felices esperando durante casi una hora dentro del templo, sentados en los viejos e incomodos bancos de madera de la nave central. Algunos prefieren sillas plásticas las cuales colocan en las naves laterales de la iglesia. También hay quienes simplemente se detienen en frente de alguna de las puertas y dicen alguna plegaria, se santiguan y luego se marchan. En verdad que no me había percatado de cuan interesante podía el área frontal de la iglesia un domingo, para hacer fotografías callejeras un tanto fuera de lo acostumbrado...

Something that never ceases to amaze me is how indifferent people are to my presence while I'm taking photos. And this day was no exception. It seemed perfectly natural to everyone that I was standing there on one of the edges of the central square, constantly pointing my camera at the doors and other areas surrounding the church. Even the new parish priest, whom I think I only greeted a couple of times, seemed completely indifferent to my presence... And this kind of "transparentness" is actually a good thing for my street photography habit, certainly!

Algo que nunca deja de sorprenderme es, cuan indiferente es el comportamiento de las personas ante mi presencia haciendo fotos. Y este día no fue la excepción, pues parecía que a todos les pareciese una cuestión totalmente natural el que yo estuviese allí de pie, en uno de los bordes de la plaza central, apuntado mi cámara continuamente hacia las puestas y demás alrededores de la iglesia. Incluso el nuevo párroco, a quien creo haber saludado un par de veces apenas, parecía absolutamente indiferente ante mi presencia allí... ¡Y esta especie de manera de "ser transparente" sí que es algo bueno para mi costumbre de hacer fotos de calle, ciertamente!...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
