This series with 15 macro shots on recent leaves of fern plants has a rather curious story: I happened to be returning from shopping for our home when I stopped to look at a rather neglected garden a couple of blocks from my house. The house in question and the garden belonged to a teacher who died just a few months ago, she was a very dear and well known person, she had a passion for plants and while she was alive, her garden was well cared for, but now the plants grow anarchically there and weeds emerge in many corners of it. However, I could not help but be delighted to observe some fern plants regrowing thanks to last week's unexpected rains (I guess that is the reason, since evidently nobody waters the plants there anymore).... So I continued on my way but without being able to get out of my mind the shapes of those beautiful new fern leaves I had seen...

Esta serie de 15 macro fotografías en hojas recientes de plantas de helechos tiene una historia un poco curiosa: Resulta qué, estaba yo volviendo de hacer algunas compras para nuestro hogar cuando me detuve a observar un jardín bastante descuidado a un par de calles de mi casa. La casa en cuestión y su jardín pertenecieron a una profesora quien murió hace apenas unos meses atrás, ella era una persona muy querida y conocida por todos, ella tenía pasión por las plantas y mientras ella vivía, su jardín estuvo bien cuidado, pero ahora las plantas crecen anárquicamente allí y la maleza emerge en muchos rincones de este. Sin embargo, no pude evitar quedar encantado al observar algunas plantas de helechos retoñando gracias a las inesperadas lluvias de la semana pasada (supongo que esa es la razón, pues evidentemente ya nadie riega las plantas del lugar)... Así que continué mi camino pero sin poder sacar de mi mente las formas de aquellas lindas hojas nóveles de los helechos que había visto...

Well, as you can guess, as soon as I got home with the bags full of groceries, I placed them on the dining room table and went straight to my room, took my camera, attached my old 100mm macro lens and went out to the street in search of a handful of pictures of resurgent fern leaves... When I passed by the dining room of our house my wife asked me: “Where are you going?" and then I answered her: "To invade private property and take pictures"... She only managed to say: “It would have been nice if you had put the groceries in the refrigerator and pantry before someone hits you for invading private property” 😆... She always seems to have something sarcastic to say when she sees me out with my camera hanging around my neck...

Y bien, como pueden suponer, apenas al llegar a casa con las bolsas repletas de víveres, las coloqué sobre la mesa del comedor y me dirigí directo a mi habitación, tomé mi cámara, la coloqué mi viejo lente macro de 100mm y me dispuse a salir a la calle en busca de un puñado de fotografías de hojas de helechos renacientes... Cuando volví a pasar por el comedor de nuestra casa mi esposa me preguntó: ¿A donde vas? y entonces le contesté: "A invadir propiedad privada y hacer fotos"... Ella solo atinó a decir: "Hubiese sido bueno que colocases los víveres en el refrigerador y la alacena antes de que alguien te golpee por entrar en propiedad privada" 😆... Parece que ella siempre algo sarcástico que decir cuando me ve salir con mi cámara colgada al cuello...

I spent about 40 minutes taking these photos in the garden of this lonely house... Nobody was there except a white cat that was watching me from the top of the wall of a neighboring house... That's how I ended taking these pictures in the middle of a pleasant calm and remembering a little bit the teacher whose house and garden are now apparently always lonely...

Estuve unos 40 minutos haciendo estas fotos en el jardín de esa casa solitaria... Nadie apreció allí salvo un gato banco que me observaba desde lo alto de la pared de una casa vecina... Así fue como terminé haciendo estas fotografías en medio de una agradable calma y recordando un poco a la profesora cuya cas y jardín están ahora al parecer siempre solitarios...
