Hello #Hive friends, obviously my first step today is to apologize for the title of this post, which looks a bit incoherent I guess.... But the thing is what, yesterday for the umpteenth time in my life and I read the passage of the encounter between Diogenes of Sinope and Alexander the Great (not so great according to Diogenes by the way).... And then after reading this I decided to go out in the garden of my house and take some pictures while I was meditating about that story...

Hola amigos de #Hive, obviamente mi primer paso hoy es pedir disculpas por el título de este post, el cual luce un poco incoherente supongo... Pero el caso es qué, ayer por enésima vez en mi vida leí el pasaje del encuentro entre Diógenes de Sinope y Alejandro el Grande (no tan grande según Diógenes por cierto)... Y entonces después de leer esto decidí salir al jardín de mi casa y hacer algunas fotografías mientras meditaba respecto a esa historia...

I am not going to bore you by relating the passage, because if you like you can read it or listen to it by doing a simple search on the web or maybe even have it in your library or who knows.... The truth was that I took my camera and started taking pictures and talking alone out loud while I was thinking (I love doing that, although my mother, my wife and my daughter keep recommending that I go back to therapy someday).

No voy a aburrirlos relatándo el pasaje, pues si gustan pueden leerlo o escucharlo haciendo una simple búsqueda en la red o quizás hasta lo tengan en su biblioteca o quien sabe... Lo cierto fue que tomé mi cámara y me puse a hacer fotos y a hablar solo en voz alta mientras pensaba (Amo hacer eso, aunque mi madre, mi esposa y mi hija siguen recomendando que vuelva a terapia algún día).

When I first read about that conversation between the Philosopher Diogenes and the Conqueror Alexander, it struck me that Diogenes must have been absolutely mad to spurn Alexander's favors and ask nothing in return for his wisdom.... (Of course, I was maybe about fourteen, full of hormones and imagining all the girls around dressed like Princess Leia Organa when she was captured by Jabba the Hutt)...

La primera vez que leí sobre esa conversación entre el Filósofo Diógenes y el Conquistador Alejandro, me pareció qué Diógenes ha de haber estado absolutamente loco por despreciar los favores de Alejandro y no pedir nada a cambio de su sabiduría... (Claro, yo tenía quizás unos catorce años, estaba repleto de hormonas e imaginando a todas las chicas alrededor vestidas como la princesa Leia Organa cuando fue capturada por Jabba el Hutt)...

Over the years I have read a lot (I grew up with asthma, with 1000 types of allergies and my mother was a teacher, so this is a perfect combination for long periods of time cooped up at home with a bunch of books at hand)... But despite reading a lot, I have always managed to read at least once a year about that meeting of Diogenes and Alexander... I think that around my 28 or 30 years of age, I was already fully aware that the cynical philosopher was not wrong after all, but it was a kind of "private vision" of each character and both could have some kind of certainty and merit.

Con el paso de los años he leído muchas cosas (crecí siendo asmático, con 1000 tipos de alergias y mi madre era profesora, entonces esa es una combinación perfecta para largas temporadas encerrado en casa con un montón de libros a la mano)... Pero a pesar de leer mucho, siempre me las he arreglado para leer cuando menos una vez al año sobre ese encuentro de Diógenes y Alejandro... Creo que cerca de mis 28 o 30 años de edad, ya estaba plenamente convencido de que el cínico filósofo no estaba equivocado después de todo, sino que se trataba de una especie de "visión particular" de cada personaje y a ambos podían tener algún tipo de certeza y merito.

At the age of 40, I was living on a plane or a taxi, meeting with people I didn't understand, trying to get employees to work regardless of whether their family life was rubbish and/or stuck in a data center threatening to die several technicians if they allow the operation of "the company" to come to a standstill (I was a national technology manager for a fairly large company, that ended up turning me into some kind of "dangerous crazy workaholic")... But! Everyone said "he is a great manager, he will be the new director very soon!"... Until one day I reread the dialogue between Diogenes and Alejandro... And I discovered (at least it seemed to me) that old Diogenes was totally right and that Alejandro was a superb fool with serious problems!...

A mis 40 años me la vivía montado en un avión o un taxi, reuniéndome con personas a las cuales no entendía, intentando hacer que empleados trabajasen sin importar que su vida familiar fuese una basura y/o metido en un centro de datos amenzando de muerte a varios técnicos sí permitían que la operación de "la empresa" se detuviese (Yo era gerente nacional de tecnología de una empresa bastante grande, eso terminó por convertirme en una especie de "loco peligroso obsesivo por el trabajo")... ¡Pero todos decían: Es un gran gerente, será el nuevo director muy pronto!... Hasta que un día volví a leer el dialogo de Diogenes y Alejandro... Y Descubrí (cuando menos eso me pareció) que el viejo Diogenes estaba totalmente acertado y que Alejandro era un soberbio papanatas con problemas serios!...

Well, the "Diogenes" factor was not the only one responsible for my radical change of life.... But I have to admit that it had a lot to do with it!... The truth is that I ended up hating everything I did, so one day without thinking too much about it "The future Director of Technology" wrote his resignation letter (in rather harsh terms, as I recall) and sent his more than 20 years of career to the very devil... ... Haaaa haaaa haaaa! 😂😂... I loved seeing the faces of my bosses and the board of directors!.... I recognize it... But I felt as if an M1 abrams tank had been taken off my back!...

Bien, el factor "Diógenes" no fue el único responsable de mi radical cambio de vida... ¡Pero hay que reconocer que tuvo bastante que ver!... Lo cierto es que terminé odiando todo lo que hacía, así que un día sin pensarlo demasiado "El futuro director de Tecnología" escribió su carta de renuncia (en términos bastante duros, según recuerdo) y mandó su más de 20 años de carrera al mismísimo carajo... ¡Jaaaa jaaa jaaa!... ¡Amé ver los rostros de mis jefe y los de la junta directiva!... Lo reconozco... ¡Pero sentí como sí me hubiese quitado de mis espaldas un tanque M1 abrams carajo!...

Today my opinion about the unfortunate Alejandro is such that it would surely make half the "rational" people in the world come after me to lynch me.... So I'd better avoid exposing this..... But suffice it to say that my current vote (and until I disassociate myself from this world surely) is for the good Diogenes.... I don't give a damn that he was walking around naked with a lamp!... He was a wise guy!...

Hoy en día mi opinión acerca del pobre Alejandro es tal que, seguramente haría que la mitad de las personas "racionales" del mundo me persiguieran para lincharme... Así que mejor evitaré exponer esto... Pero basta con decir que mi voto actual (y hasta que yo desasparezca de este mundo seguramente) es para el buen Diógenes... ¡Me importa un bledo que se la pasase caminando desnudo con una lampara!... ¡Era un chico sabio!...

Truly, if someone had the patience to read this crazy stuff, I thank you deeply, even if I seriously question your behavior, because you have to be "cured of your sanity" to read me sometimes, I admit it!... But anyway, I send a big hug and my best wishes to all, you are my dear people!

En verdad que sí alguien tubo la paciencia de leer esta sarta de locuras, se lo agradezco profundamente, aunque cuestione seriamente su comportamiento, porque hay que estar "curado de cordura" para leerme a veces, lo reconozco!...¡Pero de la manera que sea, envío un fuerte abrazo y mis mejores deseos a todos, son mi gente querida!
