Here in the north-central region of Venezuela, where Montalbán, the village where I live, is located, the months of July and August are perhaps the ones with the most rainfall and dense cloud cover. So having a relatively sunny morning and without it being raining, can be considered an exception and also an unmissable opportunity to take a long walk and especially to take some photographs while enjoying the rural landscape crossed by dozens of dirt roads... So that's what I did in days gone by when I was finally able to go to the countryside to wander during the morning hours...

Aquí en la región centro-norte de Venezuela, en donde está ubicado Montalbán el pueblo en donde vivo, los meses de Julio y Agostos son quizás los de mayor cantidad de lluvias y de densa nubosidad. Así que tener una mañana relativamente soleada y sin que esté lloviendo, puede considerarse una excepción y también una oportunidad imperdible para hacer una larga caminata y en especial para hacer algunas fotografías mientras se disfruta el paisaje rural atravesado por docenas de caminos de tierra... Así que eso es lo que hice en días pasados cuando finalmente pude ir al campo a deambular durante las horas de la mañana...

The main difference from the landscape of the dry season of the year, is that now the green abounds overwhelmingly everywhere. This makes it a little more complex to take photos, because the undergrowth, grass and dense foliage of the trees can hide some visual elements of interest. However, the rural character of these places always has something to tell when you are observed through the viewfinder of a camera (📷 01, 02, 03 and 04)... And by the way, the constant downpours have turned some sections of the roads into small swamps (📷 05 and 06) which must be crossed carefully to avoid ending up on your knees in the mud or even worse. The people there manage quite well, some pass by on motorcycles, and others like me, we skirt the ponds and wear moisture-resistant shoes. But it never hurts to take precautions.

La principal diferencia respecto al paisaje de la época seca del año, es que ahora el verde abunda de manera avasallante en todas partes. Esto hace un poco más complejo el hacer fotos, pues la maleza, el pasto y el follaje denso de los árboles, pueden ocultar algunos elementos visuales de interés. Sin embargo, el carácter rural de estos parajes siempre tiene algo para contar cuando se le observa a través del visor de una cámara (📷 01, 02, 03 y 04)... Y por cierto, los constantes aguaceros han convertido algunos tramos de los caminos en pequeños pantanos (📷 05, 06 y 07) los cuales deben ser atravesados cuidadosamente para evitar terminar de rodillas en el lodo o incluso algo peor. Las personas allí se las arreglan bastante bien, algunas pasan en motocicletas, y otros como yo, bordeamos las charcas y llevamos zapatos resistentes a la humedad. Pero nunca está demás tomar precauciones.

Just like in the village streets, dogs wandering on the country roads are a common thing here (📷 08 and 09). So, in a way, it can be said that Montalbán is a "territory of dogs walking free" 😀🐶, and I know that this is not something entirely good, but here in my town it is absolutely normal. In fact, these dogs are not stray or wild, but simply belong to the people who live in these places, they spend the night and eat on the farms, but they also roam around without problems and this is something that will never cease to fascinate me as it happens... But leaving the dogs aside, it must be said that: the main road is full of lights and colors, building changing visions every so many meters (📷 10, 11, 12 and 13) and this is a very good thing for someone, who like me, likes to take interesting photographs.

Al igual que en las calles del pueblo, los perros deambulando en los caminos rurales son algo común aquí (📷 08 y 09). Así que, de alguna manera, se puede decir que Montalbán es un "territorio de perros caminando libres" 😀🐶, Y ya sé que esto no es algo del todo bueno, pero aquí en mi pueblo es absolutamente normal. De hecho, estos perros no son callejeros ni salvajes, sino que simplemente pertenecen a las personas que viven en estos lugares, pernoctan y comen en las granjas, pero también deambulan sin problemas por los alrededores y esto e algo que nunca dejará de fascinarme como sucede... Pero dejando los perros a un lado, hay que decir que: el camino principal está repleto de luces y colores, construyendo visiones cambiantes cada tantos metros (📷 10, 11, 12 y 13) y esto es algo muy bueno para alguien, quien como yo, guste de hacer fotografías interesantes.

Leaving the main road, there are beautiful secondary roads bordered by palisades (📷 14) from which you can observe the fields and breathe fresh air at leisure (📷 15 and 16). In addition, if you are lucky enough, one of the farmers who plant these lands may stop (📷 17) and have a long, eloquent and friendly talk in which he will talk about planting cycles, irrigation techniques and even how they have to manage when there are rains or extreme droughts. The people here are kind by nature and they like to talk to their own and strangers whenever they can.

Saliendo del camino principal, hay hermosos caminos secundarios bordeados por empalizadas (📷 14) desde los cuales se pueden observar los sembradíos y respirar aire fresco a placer (📷 15 y 16). Además, si se tiene la suficiente suerte, alguno de los agricultores que siembran estas tierras quizás se detenga (📷 17) y de una larga, elocuente y simpática charla en la que hablará de ciclos de siembra, técnicas de riego y hasta de como se las tienen que ingeniar cuando hay lluvias o sequías extremas. La gente aquí es amable por naturaleza y les gusta hablar con propios extraños cada vez que pueden.

When the sun is higher above the horizon, the temperature starts to rise quickly, so it is good to take the road back to the village (📷 18) although not without taking some photos of some birds of those called here "tick eaters" (📷 19) which observe me with some strangeness... And almost reaching the streets of the village, that cute young bull (📷 20) seems to stick his head through the fence to greet me while preparing to eat the tall grass that grows outside his paddock... This is a "photographically lovely" place actually... 😉

Ya cuando el sol está más alto sobre el horizonte, la temperatura comienza a subir rápidamente, por lo tanto es bueno emprender el camino de regreso al pueblo (📷 18) aunque no sin hacer algunas fotos de unas aves de esas llamadas aquí "garrapateros" (📷 19) las cuales me observan con cierta extrañeza... Y ya casi llegando a las calles del pueblo, ese lindo toro joven (📷 20) parece sacar su cabeza a través de la alambrada para saludarme al tiempo que aprevecha para comer el pasto alto que crece fuera de su corral... Este es un lugar "fotográficamente encantador" en realidad... 😉

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7

NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7
