Being a street photographer is an activity that gradually changes our perception of our surroundings... I'm pretty bad at remembering exact dates, but I think I've been doing this regularly for about 16 or 17 years... At first, it was a bit difficult, since I only used to take photos of nature, landscapes, and the occasional family photo. However, at some point in my photographic journey, I started shooting what I saw on the streets... I remember those days now with some fondness, since the first few times I limited myself to photographing simple things like the facades of houses, the occasional old car, and so on...

Esto de ser un fotógrafo callejero es una actividad que va modificado nuestra percepción de entorno gradualmente... Soy bastante malo para recordar fechas exactas, pero creo que he estado cerda de 16 o 17 años haciendo esto con frecuencia... Al principio era un poco difícil, pues yo solo acostumbraba hacer fotos de naturaleza, paisajes y algunas fotos familiares ocasionales. Sin embargo, en algún momento de mi viaje fotográfico, comencé a hacer disparos a lo que veía en las calles... Recuerdo ahora aquellos días con cierta simpatía, pues las primeras veces me limitaba a fotografiar algunas cosas simples como las fachadas de las casas, algún auto viejo y así por el estilo...

Next came wide-angle street scenes to my portfolio, those where I dared to photograph people, even though they were barely visible, like small, unrecognizable figures... My beloved stray cats and dogs became the "bridge" that later allowed me to photograph people up close, as some of the townspeople would see me taking pictures and talking to these charming creatures and would stop to stare while I did so. And I, still somewhat cautiously, began taking portraits of people; first, portraits with them posing, and then—as a joke—I got used to shooting them with my camera suddenly and without warning... It even made them laugh!

Después vinieron a mi portafolio las escenas callejeras de ángulo abierto, aquellas en donde ya me atrevía a fotografiar personas aunque estas eran apenas visibles como pequeñas figuras de identidad irreconocible... Mis amados gatos y perros callejeros su fueron convirtiendo el "puente" el cual me permitió luego fotografiar a las personas de cerca, pues algunos habitantes del pueblo, me veían haciendo fotos y conversando con esas encantadoras creaturas y se detenían a mirarme mientras lo hacía. Y yo, aún con ciertas reservas, comencé a hacerles a las personas retratos a las personas; primero retratos con ellos posando y luego -a manera de broma- me acostumbré a dispararles con mi cámara de forma repentina y sin aviso... ¡Eso incluso les causaba risas!...

And with the passage of time I became -as I always say- "part of the streetscape of my town", so this allows me to merge with everything around me, it allows me to see and understand what surrounds me and of which I am even a part, despite also acting as a witness... Now the portraits are without posing, now everyone knows that I am there taking photos, now some even stop and ask to be photographed and they know that I will do it while they are asking and not if they pose too much... That is more or less how I was transformed, without haste or pause, into "The crazy guy with the camera in his hand" as some here affectionately call me...

Y con el paso del tiempo me fui convirtiendo en -como siempre lo digo- "parte del paisaje callejero de mi pueblo", entonces esto me permite fundirme con todo alrededor, me permite ver y entender lo que me rodea y de lo cual formo parte inclusive, a pesar de actuar también como testigo... Ahora los retratos son sin pose, ahora todos saben que estoy allí haciendo fotos, ahora incluso algunos se detienen y piden ser fotografiados y saben que lo haré mientras lo están pidiendo y no si posan demasiado... Así más o menos es como me fui transformando, sin prisa ni pausa, en "El tipo loco con la cámara en la mano" como algunos aquí me llaman cariñosamente...

_{ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}

_{NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape v3.7}
