The streets of the town seem a little tense these days. Most of the people are still going about their daily business as usual... However, I, an assiduous observer of these streets, notice the subtle change of concern in their expressions, because this is something I have seen before on several occasions...

Las calles del pueblo parecen un poco tensas estos días recientes. La mayoría de las personas continúan sumidas en sus quehaceres diarios como siempre... Sin embargo yo, un observador asiduo de estas calles, percibo el sutil cambio que genera la preocupación en sus semblantes, pues esto es algo que ya he visto antes en varias oportunidades...

Some things have been happening to disturb the townspeople lately... Young people have died suddenly and unexpectedly, there are some land disputes between families in the village and there have already been violent encounters between clans because of this, the local economy is still in steep decline and young people have started to leave the town again? As if all this were not enough, drought is raging, there are daily power cuts lasting several hours, drinking water is scarce and expensive to buy and midday temperatures often exceed 35°C... All of this noticeably changes the town and the people here... Some are more equanimous and resilient, others, on the other hand, look tired of it all...

Han pasado algunas cosas que perturban a los pobladores últimamente... Han muerto personas jóvenes de manera súbita e inesperada, hay algunas disputas por tierras entre familias del pueblo y ya han habido encuentros con violencia entre clanes debido a esto, la economía local sigue en franco declive y las personas jóvenes han comenzado a dejar el pueblo de nuevo... Por si todo esto no fuera suficiente, la sequía arrecia, hay cortes de electricidad de varias horas a diario, el agua potable escasea y es cara de comprar y las temperaturas al mediodía sobrepasan los 35°C con frecuencia... Todo esto transforma de manera perceptible al pueblo y a las personas aquí... Algunos son más ecuánimes y resilientes, otros por el contrario lucen cansados de todo esto...

My photographic work in this town, what I do on a daily basis I mean, is really strange... I assumed I wanted to do this years ago, I did it partly as a therapy to cope with my stress problems.... As time went by the stress was left behind and the whole thing became an unconventional catalyst, through which I learned to find myself... But, leaving aside all that, the perception of the town in such a sensitive way as I can do when behaving with an ‘observer’, is something really fascinating, unexpected and never ceases to amaze me. And I think that this publication, these photos and these lines that I wrote today confirm it...

Mi trabajo fotográfico en este pueblo, lo que hago a diario quiero decir, es realmente extraño... Asumí que quería hacer esto hace años, lo hice en parte como terapia para sobrellevar mis problemas de stress... Con el paso del tiempo el stress quedó atrás y todo esto se convirtió en un catalizador poco convencional, a través del cual aprendí a encontrarme conmigo mismo... Pero, dejando al margen todo eso, el percibir el pueblo de forma tan sensible como puedo hacerlo al comportarme con un "observador", es algo realmente fascinante, inesperado y que nunca deja de sorprenderme. Y creo que esta publicación, estas fotos y estas líneas que escribí hoy así lo confirman...
