If you come to my town and see a guy with a camera photographing dogs and talking to them in the streets, then it's for sure that guy is me... Here in Montalbán (Venezuela) dogs are a part of the streetscape... My father used to say: “In this town we have more dogs than people” and that's still the way it is today... In addition, there is a deep relationship between dogs and neighbors, with almost all of these animals being sort of community pets. It is not strange to see in the entrances of the garages and backyards of the town, containers with food and water for the dogs, neither are missing those that in spite of being during the day in the streets, sleeping in the backyards of the houses or even inside them. Throughout my life here, I have seen people bathing stray dogs, supplying medicine and serving as babysitters when new puppies are born... It's a strange fact, but “Montalbán is impossible to understand without its dogs”...

Si usted viene a mi pueblo y ve a un tipo con una cámara fotografiando perros y hablando con ellos en las calles, entonces es seguro que ese tipo soy yo... Aquí en Montalbán (Venezuela) los perros son parte infaltable del paisaje callejero... Mi padre solía decir: "En este pueblo tenemos más perros que personas" y eso sigue siendo de esta manera hoy en día... Además, hay una relación profunda entre los perros y los vecinos, siendo la casi totalidad de estos animales una especie de mascotas comunitarias. No es extraño ver en las entradas de los garajes y patios del pueblo, recipientes con comida y agua para los perros, tampoco faltan aquellos que a pesar de estar durante el día en las calles, pernoctan en los patios de las casas o incluso dentro de ellas. A lo largo de i vida aquí, he visto personas bañando perros callejeros, suministrando medicinas y sirviendo de niñeras cuando hay cachorros nuevos... Es un hecho extraño, pero "Montalbán es imposible de entender sin sus perros"...

These are photographs selected from the days that have passed in this April. The possibility of taking pictures of dogs in my streets and my marked taste for taking them, make that I always have abundant material in my archives with images of these adorable animals. Besides, sitting in the street, talking to them, petting them when they allow it, giving them a snack, feeling how many of them recognize me when I approach them? All of that has a kind of priceless magic.... Yes, that's it, I'm sure I need these animals more than they might need me... Gosh, my eyes watered for a moment, as I thought and wrote this.... That's how deep the bond can be between these animals and the one who has the fortune to enjoy their presence...

Estas don fotografías seleccionadas de los días que han transcurrido en este mes de Abril. La posibilidad de hacer fotos de perros en mis calles y mi marcado gusto por hacer estas, hacen que siempre en mis archivos tenga abundante material con imágenes de estos adorables animales. Además, sentarme en la calle, hablar con ellos, acariciarlos cuando lo permiten, darles algún bocadillo, sentir como muchos me reconocen cuando me aproximo... Todo eso tiene un tipo de magia invaluable... Sí, es eso, estoy seguro de que yo necesito más a estos animales de lo que ellos puedan necesitarme a mi... Cielos, se me humedecieron mis ojos por un momento, mientras pensaba y escribía esto... Así de profundo puede ser el lazo que se llega a crear entre estos animales y quien tiene la fortuna de disfrutar su presencia...
