Taking the time to go out into the streets to take pictures in the early hours of the day is something that confronts me directly and crudely with the reality of many corners of my village. This is even more evident when I decide to walk through the most disadvantaged areas of it. Although in truth, this "decline" has already reached practically all areas of the town.

Tomarse la molestia de salir a las calles a hacer fotos durante las primeras horas del día, es algo lo cual me enfrenta de manera directa y cruda con la realidad de muchos rincones de mi pueblo. Esto es aún más evidente cuando decido caminar por las áreas más desfavorecidas de este. Aunque en honor a la verdad, ya esta "decadencia" está alcanzado prácticamente todos los espacios del pueblo.

I suppose living in a town like this and walking through its crumbling streets is the visual equivalent of what a period of severe suffering and tribulation would be for someone who likes to write. So this must be the reason why I can take pictures with such astonishing ease in this place... It's funny, but I feel like I'm saying: "Decadence inspires me"... I don't think that's a statement that everyone can like, geez!

Supongo que vivir en un pueblo como este y recorres sus calles que se deshacen en pedazos, es el equivalente visual de lo que sería un período de severo sufrimiento y tribulación para alguien a quien le gusta escribir. Entonces esta ha de ser la razón por la cual puedo hacer fotos con una facilidad pasmosa en estos escenario... Es curioso, pero siento como que estoy diciendo: "La decadencia me inspira"... ¡No creo que esa sea una afirmación que pueda gustar a todos caray!.

Sometimes, when I am out on the streets taking photos, the scene from the film "Titanic" comes to mind, in which the musicians continue to play their instruments as the ship sinks.... I say this because I am aware that this town is sinking and I am wandering the streets sometimes laughing in solitude as I take photos considered strange by many of those who live here.

En algunas ocasiones, cuando estoy en las calles haciendo fotos, se me viene a la mente la escena de la película "Titanic" en la cual los músicos continuaban tocando sus instrumentos mientras el barco se hunde... Lo digo porque estoy consciente de que este pueblo se está hundiendo y yo voy deambulando por las calles a veces riendo en soledad mientras hago fotos consideradas extrañas por muchos de los que aquí viven.

I confess that my first choice for the title of today's work was: "town going to hell" but after careful consideration, I opted for a less irreverent title. However, I'm sure that many of you will like "town going to hell" (in fact, I like it better).

Confieso que mi primera opción para titular mi trabajo de hoy era: "pueblo yéndose al carajo" pero después de pensarlo bien, opté por un título menos irreverente. Sin embargo, estoy seguro de que: "pueblo yéndose al carajo" les gustará a muchos de ustedes (de hecho, a mi me gusta más).

However it may be, one thing that is certain is that this handful of neglected and decaying streets are an almost inexhaustible source of photographs, reflections and experiences. So because of that, I often consider it a "rare privilege" to be able to immerse myself in them and find their meaning... (Yes, as always, I'm sounding pretty weird, I know).

De la manera que sea, algo que sí es seguro es que este puñado de calles descuidadas y franco proceso de declive, constituyen una fuente prácticamente inagotable de fotografías, reflexiones y experiencias. Así que debido a eso suelo considerar un "raro privilegio" el poder sumergirme en ellas in encontrar su significado... (Sí, como siempre, estoy sonando bastante raro, ya lo sé).
