One of those cloudy mornings is an ideal opportunity to visit the rural areas south of my town, venture down a dirt road, and spend some time taking interesting photographs of this rural environment, which is now somewhat abandoned and certainly more isolated than it was two decades ago...

Una de esas mañanas de cielos nublados, es una oportunidad ideal para ir las áreas rurales al Sur de mi pueblo, sumergirse en algún camino de tierra y dedicar el tiempo a hacer fotografías interesantes de ese entorno rural hoy por hoy un tanto abandonado y seguramente más solitario que lo que era dos décadas atrás...

You'll arrive here following the paved road that leads to an area called "Agua de Obispo," but just before reaching a site with houses, you can turn right and take a dirt road that crosses lands once used for farming and cattle raising. But, in addition to the rural views, there's also plenty of nature to photograph, as well as visions where the human and the natural converge in a charming way. Examples abound, and they're included in these photos I'm sharing with you today: A roll of wire abandoned on the fence, a curious bird looking out, a termite mound on an old log; everything here translates into a photo to take...

Se llega aquí siguiendo la carretera asfaltada que va hacia un área llamada "Agua de Obispo", pero junto antes de llegar a un sitio con casas, se puede girar a la derecha y tomar un camino de tierra el cual atraviesa antiguos terrenos destinados a la siembra y a la cría de ganado. Pero, además de las visiones rurales, también hay un montón de naturaleza para fotografiar, así como visiones en donde convergen lo humano lo natural de manera encantadora. Los ejemplos sobran y están en estas fotos las cuales comparto con ustedes hoy: Un rollo de alambre abandonado en la empalizada, un ave que mira con curiosidad, un termitero en un viejo tronco de madera, todo aquí se traduce en una foto para hacer...

I continue walking, and more things to photograph appear... The old sign for the now-abandoned citrus concentrate factory, a huge cactus whose red fruits are coveted by people, birds, and even small omnivorous mammals like opossums. There are also signs of reuse and recycling, like a door made from part of a sheet metal previously used for political advertising... After that, a Jack Russell Terrier looks at me from the doorway of a partially ruined house. It seems that the gloomy calm of these places has even managed to affect a dog of this lively breed. And speaking of sadness; the once-functional irrigation water tank now looks silent, surrounded by logs and visibly deteriorated... Yes, there is undeniably plenty to photograph here...

Continúo caminando y aparecen más cosas para fotografiar... El antiguo letrero de la hoy abandonada factoría de concentrados cítricos, un enorme cactus cuyos frutos rojos son codiciados a por igual por personas, por aves e incluso por pequeños mamíferos omnívoros como las zarigüeyas. También hay signos del aprovechamiento y reciclaje de cosas, como una puerta hecha con parte de una lámina metálica la cual fue antes usada para propaganda política... Después de eso, un tranquilo perro de rasa Jack Russel Terrier me mira desde la puerta de una casa parcialmente en ruinas, parece que la tristeza de estos lugares ha logrado incluso afectar a un perro de esta vivaz raza; y hablando de tristeza; el otrora funcional tanque para el agua de riego, luce hoy silencioso, rodeado de leños y visiblemente deteriorado... Sí, aquí hay mucho para hacer fotos, innegablemente...

The landscape is rife with groves of trees, and a few mountain ranges can be seen between clouds on the horizon. The road continues winding through this secondary valley, which locals call "La Majada." Old rusty pieces of vehicles appear on the sides of the road, a sure sign of more prosperous times gone by. Small pastures and the road itself provide ever-increasing greenery to the view as the sunlight attempts to pierce through the ceiling of clouds, which range from white to gray...

Los paisajes tienen arboledas a por doquier y algunas filas montañosas se avistan entre nubes en el horizonte; el camino sigue serpenteando por este valle secundario al cual la gente llama "La Majada"; aparecen viejos trozos de vehículos oxidados a las orillas del camino, señal inequívoca de tiempos pasados más prósperos... Pequeños pastizales y el camino mismo, brindan cada vez más "verdes" a la vista, a medida que la luz solar se incrementa intentando atravesar el techo de nubes entre blancas y grises...

In these partially forgotten lands, it's rare to see signs warning of no entry, but sometimes that's how it happens... The hills suddenly appear, and the conifers break the usual pattern in these parts; the pines are something newer, having been planted there as part of a failed timber harvesting project... I arrive at the gate of an old friend's property and find the door closed and silent, so I spend some time observing the landscape and, a little later, begin the return journey while an indifferent dog appears out of nowhere, as if trying to guide me...

En estas tierras parcialmente olvidadas, es raro ver carteles de advertencia para prohibiciones de paso, pero algunas veces así sucede... Las colinas aparecen súbitamente y las coníferas rompen un poco lo acostumbrado a ver en estos lares; los pinos son algo más nuevo y fueron sembrados allí como parte de un fracasado proyecto para explotar su madera... Llego al portal de la propiedad de un antiguo amigo y la encuentro de puerta cerrada y silenciosa, así que me dedico a observar un poco más el paisaje y, un poco más tarde, comenzar el camino de regreso mientras un perro indiferente aparece de la nada como queriendo guiarme...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
