The Arabian Jasmine "Grand Duke of Tuscany," despite its pompous and somewhat pretentious name 😂, is a very charming plant, with beautiful flowers that change shape wonderfully from bud to wither, offering a multitude of diverse photographic opportunities with a single blooming plant. In addition to these qualities, this plant has one of the most enchanting fragrances I've ever encountered in the world of ornamental plants. So, spending a few hours breathing in the scent of these flowers and having fun taking pictures is something I do several times a year during their flowering season, which here is generally from the end of April until well into September. However, it's possible to see smaller blooms even outside of those months, provided the plant is pruned correctly and receives the necessary watering and fertilization.

El Jazmín Árabe "Gran Duque de Toscana", a pesar de su pomposo y petulante nombre 😂; es una planta muy simpática, con flores hermosas que cambian de forma maravillosamente desde que son un botón hasta que se marchitan, ofreciendo así un montón de posibilidades diversas para hacer fotografías en una sola planta en floración. Además de estas bondades, esta planta tiene uno de los perfumes más encantadores que yo haya encontrado en el mundo de las plantas ornamentales. Así que, pasar unas cuantas oras respirando el perfumado por estas flores y divertirme haciéndoles fotos, es algo que hago varias veces al año durante su época de floración, la cual es aquí por lo general desde finales de Abril hasta bien entrado septiembre. Sin embargo, es posible observar floraciones en cantidades menores incluso fuera de esos meses, siempre y cuando la planta sea podada correctamente y manteniendo el nivel de riego y abonado necesarios...

These plants have been in our gardens for as long as I can remember, and according to my mother, my grandmother was already growing them when she was just a child. So, in a way, these plants are part of the family and descend from those that were already here at our house some 80 years ago, or even more. As a result, when these plants bloom, my mother repeats phrases like, "The Arabian jasmine is in bloom again," or "If your grandmother were still alive, she'd be enjoying the scent of the jasmine." 😀🙏 For my part, I've adopted the habit of taking photos of their blooms every year and delighting in their ever-changing beauty, something I haven't observed to the same degree in any other flower in our gardens so far...

Este tipo de plantas ha estado en los jardines de nuestras casas desde que tengo uso de razón y, según cuenta mi madre, mi abuela ya las cultivaba cuando ella era apenas una niña. Así que, de alguna manera, estas plantas forman parte de la familia y descienden de aquellas plantas que ya estaban aquí en nuestra casa unos 80 años atrás e incluso más. Esto trae como consecuencias que, cuando estas plantas florecen, mi madre repita frases como: "Ya huelen los jazmines árabes nuevamente" o "Si tu abuela estuviese aún viva, estaría disfrutando de oler los jazmines" 😀🙏. Yo por mi parte, he adoptado la costumbre de hacer fotos año a año de sus floraciones y deleitarme un montón en su abstracción cambiante, cosa la cual no observo a ese mismo nivel en ningún otra flor de nuestros jardines hasta ahora...

This plant is a double and more fragrant variety of Jasminum sambac (common name: "Sampaguita"), the national flower of the Philippines, but the differences between the two are truly noticeable. The Grand Duke of Tuscany is a shrub, while the Sampaguita grows as a vine. The flowers are also dramatically different: as you can see in my photos, the flowers of this variety are very double, almost resembling white roses, while the Sampaguita flowers are single, with few petals arranged in a star shape. However, they share the same DNA, and only centuries of cultivation and hybridization have made them so different. But one thing they do have in common, according to what I've read, is the beauty of their fragrance...

Esta planta es una variedad doble y más perfumada de Jasminum sambac (Nombre común: Sampaguita) que es la flor nacional de Filipinas, pero las diferencias entre ambas variedades son realmente perceptibles; hasta el punto en que el Gran Duque de Toscana es un arbusto y la Sampaguita crece como enredadera; también las flores son dramáticamente diferentes pues las de esta variedad, como pueden observar en mis fotos, son muy dobles, llegando a parecer rosas blancas incluso; mientras que la de la Sampaguita son simples, de pocos pétalos dispuestos en forma de estrella. Sin embargo, comparten el mismo ADN, y solo siglos de cultivo e hibridación las han hecho tan diferentes, Pero algo en lo que si son iguales, según he leído, es en la belleza de su perfume...
