And yes, "and the town is this", and I wander through it. And in return for that, for wandering, I say, the town rewards me with a few lines to later write. And on some corners I remember that pile of things by Benedetti, the things about love, not the ones about revolutions, because I've never liked revolutions. And my memories, I mean those of Benedetti, are from my 15, 16, and 17 years of age, when for the first time love, without innocence, burned my veins. Then, as if by miracle or by misfortune, I discovered the lines that say things, those that others wrote and I searched for, those lines like Benedetti's, which I read and read a thousand times, but which I never learn. Because I don't remember words, or faces, and sometimes not even sounds, but I do remember, especially when I walk these streets, gray pains and blue joys...

Y sí, "y el pueblo es este" y lo deambulo. Y a cambio de eso, de deambular digo, el pueblo me retribuye con algunas líneas para luego escribirla. Y en algunas esquinas recuerdo ese montón de cosas de Benedetti, las cosas de amor, no las de revoluciones, porque nunca me han gustado las revoluciones. Y mis recuerdos, los de Benedetti digo, son de mis 15, mis 16 y mis 17 años, cuando por primera vez los amores, sin inocencias, me quemaron las venas. Entonces, como por milagro o por desgracia descubrí las líneas que dicen cosas, esas que otros escribían y yo buscaba, esas líneas como las de Benedetti, que leí y leo mil veces, pero las cuales nunca me aprendo. Porque no recuerdo ni palabras, ni rostros y algunas veces tampoco sonidos, pero sí que, en especial cuando camino estas calles, recuerdo dolores grises y alegrías azules...

There's anarchy happening in the streets, and in the little corners, and even beyond, where the town fades away, there's anarchy. Suddenly some attempt at poetry greets me, or tugs at my sleeve and whispers something in my ear. Then I fall silent and think. And then sometimes something strange occurs to me: "I can take pictures and invent lines even after I'm dead" or "Look over there, it's me coming back, but older, slower, even laughing at myself when I see myself younger, there"... Yes, maybe they're deliriums, street deliriums sometimes with fog, other times with suns and fears that take turns... Even, hallelujah, I'm quite crazy, because once I asked myself: Can you take pictures and write things in the heaven? And I answered myself: Of course! Otherwise, what else would the heaven be for?... That's how strange it is to wander where others have somewhere to go with certainty...

Hay una anarquía ocurriendo en las calles, y en los pequeños rincones, e incluso más allá, donde el pueblo se va desvaneciendo, hay anarquía. De repente algún intento de poesía me saluda, o me tira de la manga y dice algo a mi oído. Entonces callo y pienso. Y luego se me ocurre a veces, alguna cosa extraña: "Puedo hacer fotos e inventarme líneas hasta después de muerto" o "Mira allá, soy yo mismo viniendo pero más viejo, más lento, incluso riéndome de mi mismo al mirarme más joven, allí"... Sí, puede que sean delirios, delirios callejeros a veces con nieblas, otras veces con soles y miedos que se turnan... Incluso, aleluya, estoy muy loco, porque una vez me pregunté: ¿Se podrán hacer fotos y escribir cosas en el cielo? y me contesté a mi mismo: ¡Claro que sí! ¿De lo contrario para que otra cosa serviría el cielo?... Así de extraño es esto de deambular en donde otros tienen a donde ir con certeza...

I don't feel harassed by the privilege of perceiving the imagined happenings in these streets. On the contrary, I think I truly love this. I wouldn't like to walk down the street, simply excluded from my concluded and inconclusive observations. I would hate such normalcy, that of using the streets only to come and go. Certainly, I think I would sense my small, busy miracles happening on street corners, on walls, on the floor, and in the skies. I'm sure I would become who I am, in the absence of who I am today...

No me siento acosado por el privilegio de percibir lo imaginado que sucede en estas calles. Por el contrario, creo que amo esto seriamente. No me gustaría ir por la calle, por ahí simplemente excluido de mis observaciones conclusas e inconclusas. Odiaría tanta normalidad, la de usar las calles solo par ir y venir digo. Ciertamente, creo que presentiría mis pequeños milagros afanosos ocurriendo en las esquinas, en las paredes, en el piso y en los cielos. Estoy seguro, me convertiría en quien soy, ante la ausencia de como soy hoy...
