There are mornings here in my town when the fog seems afraid to touch the surface of the streets. So it hangs over the houses like a huge white blanket, which tends to turn almost yellow as the early hours of the morning pass and the sun can already be intuited a little high on the horizon... Then, that flat, sallow light seems to paint things itself. And the cracks become deeper, and the dull surfaces take on solid, complex colors, and even people take on a strange relevance in the already different street context... It is these scenes of mine, on days when dawn breaks like this, that I call “Like Sad Watercolors”...

Hay mañanas aquí en mi pueblo, en los que la niebla parece tener miedo de tocar la superficie de las calles. Entonces se queda suspendida sobre las casas como un enorme manto blanco el cual tiende a volverse casi amarillo conforme pasan las primeras horas de la mañana y el sol se puede intuir ya un poco alto en el horizonte... Entonces, esa luz plana y macilenta, parece pintar ella misma las cosas. Y las grietas se vuelven más profundas, y las superficies deslucidas se tornan de sólidos colores complejos, e incluso las personas cobran una relevancia rara en el contexto callejero ya de por sí distinto... Son esas visiones mías, en días cuando amanece así, las que llamo "Como acuarelas tristes"...

And I know that this is not, so to speak, the “most third-world town” you can find. But I am sure that the effects of the economic crisis, social problems, negligence on the part of the authorities, lack of decoration, and so on, are clearly reflected in the streets and therefore in my photographs. So this is another reason—apart from the color scheme mentioned above—that is enough for me to understand and describe these photos as I am doing in the title of this publication...

Y ya sé que este no es, por así decirlo, el "pueblo más tercermundista" que se pueda hallar. Pero sí que estoy seguro que los efectos de la crisis económica, los problemas sociales, la negligencia de las autoridades, la falta de ornato y cosas por el estilo; se reflejan de manera bastante clara en las calles y por ende en mis fotografías. Así que esta es también otra razón -distinta del cromatismo previamente comentado- para que yo entienda y describa estas fotos como lo estoy haciendo desde el título de esta publicación...

Perhaps this is simply me observing and interpreting the streets in this manner, possibly immersed in one of my frequent mood swings, which range from depression to euphoria with astonishing ease... I have evidence, because I walked these streets and didn't find anyone who said, “Today the streets look like sad watercolors” or anything like that. But, whatever the case may be, here are the photos, and I'm happy to share them with you here on #Hive!...

Incluso, también quizás esto se trata de "simplemente yo mirando y entendiendo las calles así", posiblemente inmerso en una de mis frecuentes oscilaciones de mi carácter, el cual va desde lo depresivo a lo eufórico con una facilidad pasmosa... Tengo indicios, pues recorrí estas calles y no encontré a nadie que dijese: "Hoy las calles parecen acuarelas tristes" o algo por el estilo. Pero, sea como sea, aquí están las fotos y gustosamente las comparto con ustedes aquí en #Hive!...

They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape v3.7}
