My views on filtered images

Pictures are snapshots taken by using a camera, which reflects, as in a mirror, the image captured. This means that what you input should be what you get as an output.

Notwithstanding, there are factors that influence the output, such as motion, positioning of the object, sun rays, camera lens quality, filter, etc. These factors influence what the output of the picture will be when a snapshot is taken.

Pictures may thus reflect the actual individual or give the wrong presentation of the actual object based on the above, and this may be a reason why filters are applied to help cushion the unwanted features of a picture. These filters come in various capacities, sometimes giving a false impression of the object. It is possible to make a dark individual appear yellow in complexion or perhaps hide some features, such as acne, birth marks, or scars. Filters help individuals to look better, or perhaps their best, which may interfere with the true perception of an external factor or person as regards the object in focus.

Applying filters and filtering pictures to bring out those that look presentable to the public has helped to project an image of perfection or near perfection to the public. There is nothing bad in looking one's best; however, excessive use of some filters has thus brought about the notion that "PICTURES CAN BE DECEIVING".

In some instances, we are compelled to agree with the aforementioned phrase. When we see some people physically, they may be far from the pictorial evidence presented to us, giving us a misinterpretation or concern for genuineness.

IMAGE CREDIT IS MINE..... without filters

As an individual who does not have very presentable physical features, taking pictures is not routine for me unless it is necessary or when the mood or occasion calls for it. I usually try to give a genuine smile, and if that's difficult, it is almost certain the picture will not come out attractive even to me. This thus brings me to applying filters occasionally or filtering pictures to delete those that are terrible to behold and leave those that are appreciable.

For me personally, there is nothing wrong with applying filters or filtering snapshots; so far, my image has not been thwarted, making me have a resemblance that is questionable. Applying filters may help to accentuate the best parts of the image while hiding those we may not be too comfortable with.

I have had the knowledge that people apply filters to their pictures, and I have no reservations about that. Even though I have trouble identifying people I have not seen often, I will not appreciate meeting someone for the first time and having an unmatched representation of what was previously presented as a picture. I doubt if I have encountered such an inconsistency of pictorial image versus physical appearance, but if I do, I will not hesitate to make known to such an individual the disparity encountered.

Thank you for reading. I would love to have your comments and contributions.

I agree with this. The intention of applying filter shouldn't be to deceive others.

Filters add enhancement to pictures and when used excessively send deceptive appearance which left us in doubt when we finally see the real appearance in reality. Moderation is just one way to beating abuse in anything we do.
