Travel To Star Mosque

There are several traditional buildings in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh, mosques being one of them. The mosque is located next to Abul Khairat Road in Armanitola, Old Dhaka. Had the good fortune to catch a glimpse of this traditional mosque when I traveled to Dhaka with my friends in 2021. This mosque, studded with stars on white marble, looks amazing. The mosque is known as the star mosque or tara mosque because of the many star-like designs on the mosque. However, no accurate information about the construction period of the mosque has been found. Because the construction period of the mosque was not mentioned anywhere.

However, it is believed that the Zamindar Mirza Ghulam Pir built this mosque around the eighteenth century. The mosque was renovated in 1926. At that time, Japanese sugar-tikiri material was used in the mosaic craft of the mosque. Originally the mosque had three domes. The mosque was renovated again in 1987 and converted from a three-domed to a five-domed mosque. There is a huge star-shaped fountain in front of the mosque. Star Mosqu is a traditional mosque of Old Dhaka. The widely used 100 taka note of Bangladesh also has the image of Tara Mosque. This Islamic building represents the heritage and culture of old Dhaka. This mosque has been presenting Dhaka's heritage to the world for ages.
