Gastronomía venezolana [esp. / eng.]
La hallaca es un plato típico de la gastronomía venezolana que se consume en época de diciembre, pero no tiene porque ser siempre así; me madre, por ejemplo, cuando se antoja de comerse una hallaca alega que algo tan sabroso no puede ser exclusivo sólo de una fecha, así que cuando ella dice «quiero hallaca» pues nos juntamos para prepararlas.
Primero hay que conseguir las carnes, los aliños, la leña para el fogón, el cordón para atar las hallacas, las hojas de plátanos para el embutido. Una vez que se tiene todo organizado mamá prepara el guiso y mientras se enfría ella misma prepara la masa y de una vez comenzamos con la preparación; unos amarran, otros deben estar pendientes de lo que falte, hay los que deben ordenar las hojas y hay los que les toca cocinar la hallaca (que es mi trabajo). Es un trabajo en familia y eso lo hace ameno. Lo que que sigue es comer.
The hallaca is a typical dish of Venezuelan gastronomy that is consumed in December, but it does not always have to be like that; my mom, for example, when she craves a hallaca, she says that something so delicious cannot be exclusive only for one date, so when she says "I want hallaca", we get together to prepare them.
First we have to get the meats, the seasonings, the wood for the fire, the thread to tie the hallacas, the banana leaves. Once everything is organized, my mom prepares the stew and while it cools, she prepares the dough and we start the preparation; some tie them, others must be aware of what is missing, there are those who must arrange the leaves and there are those who have to cook the hallaca (which is my job). It is a family job and that makes it fun. The next thing is to eat.
