Two Realities and One Walk!

A few days ago I went on a trip to Maracay, it was a very short stay, but just enough to go for a walk with my mom and run errands in the center of the city. I remember that we had to look for her new glasses at La Capilla Shopping Mall, a place I adored in my adolescence and where I always discovered something wonderful in their anime stores, or just being with my high school classmates having fun in its aisles. I had not visited this place for many years and my expectations were high, but I was very surprised to find myself with the sad reality that this place that gave me so many emotions only exists now in my memory.

Hace unos días me fui de viaje a Maracay, fue una estadía muy corta, pero lo suficiente para salir a caminar junto a mi mamá y hacer diligencias en el centro de la ciudad. Recuerdo que teníamos que buscar sus nuevos anteojos en el Centro Comercial La Capilla, un lugar que adoraba en mi adolescencia y donde siempre descubría algo maravilloso en sus tiendas de animé, o simplemente el hecho de estar con mis compañeros de secundaría divirtiéndonos en sus pasillos. Eran demediados años sin visitar este lugar y las expectativas eran altas, pero me sorprendió mucho encontrarme con una triste realidad de que ese lugar que me brindó tantas emociones solo existe ahora en mi memoria.

La Capilla was never the busiest shopping mall in my time, but all its stores were in operation, but now it is a reflection of the Venezuelan economy, there are few stores that were open with thriving businesses, and I thought I could eat something here with my mom and rest from the walk, but there was nothing special, at least not that day. It was nice that there were not so many people to take pictures of their facilities, but we had to leave, we needed a fruit smoothie urgently. It was there where my mom suggested me to go to another nearby mall, the Gran Bazar Maracay. Just mentioning it made me sick and I don't have good memories of that other place, but she wanted to go and I was there to please her and take pictures of the way...

La Capilla nunca fue el centro comercial más concurrido en mis tiempos, pero todos sus locales estaban en funcionamiento, pero ahora es un reflejo de la economía venezolana, son pocos los locales que estaban abiertos con negocios prósperos, y pensé que podía comer algo aquí con mi mamá y descansar de la caminata, pero no había algo especial, al menos ese día no. Fue bonito que no hubiera tantas personas como para tomar fotografías de sus instalaciones, pero tuvimos que irnos, necesitábamos un batido de frutas urgentemente. Fue ahí donde mi mamá me sugirió ir a otro centro comercial cercano, el Gran Bazar Maracay. De solo mencionarlo me puse mal y es que no tengo buenos recuerdos de ese otro lugar, pero ella quería ir y yo estaba para complacerla y tomar fotografías del camino...

There was another reality in the Gran Bazar Mall, and the truth is that I was very impressed. This place did not exist when I moved to Caracas, but I knew it when it was inaugurated and I did not like it at all, it seemed that all the informal commerce of the city was in here, but now that I go back a few years later (and it still seems that all the informal commerce of the city is in here), there was an atmosphere of joy, thriving businesses and spaces to sit and have a delicious fruit smoothie with my mom. Perhaps the location of both malls is key to the prosperity of one more than the other and in fact this busy mall is not nice at all, La Capilla is more beautiful, but it was nice to walk and interact with the people who were here, besides the pleasant air conditioning, because do not forget that Maracay is like an oven in the heart of Venezuela. I'm glad I took this walk and got to know both sides of the coin in such close and different spaces. thank you all for reading to the end! 🙏

Había otra realidad en el Centro Comercial Gran Bazar, y la verdad es que me impresionó mucho. Este lugar no existía cuando me mudé a Caracas, pero lo conocí cuando lo inauguraron y no me gustó para nada, parecía que todo el comercio informal de la ciudad estaba aquí adentro, pero ahora que vuelvo unos años después (y que aún parece que todo el comercio informal de la ciudad está aquí adentro), había un ambiente de alegría, negocios prósperos y espacios para sentarse y tomarse un delicioso batido de frutas junto a mi mamá. Quizás la ubicación de ambos centros comerciales sea clave para la prosperidad de uno más que del otro y de hecho este concurrido centro comercial no es nada bonito, es más bella La Capilla, pero fue grato caminar e interactuar con las personas que estaban aquí, además del agradable aire acondicionado, porque no olviden que Maracay es como un horno en el corazón de Venezuela. Me alegra haber dado este paseo y conocer las dos caras de la moneda en espacios tan cercanos y diferentes. ¡Gracias a todos por leer hasta el final! 🙏
