The Pantheon of Agrippa, Rome, Italy
Happy start to the week to everyone at Worldmappin!. I'm so excited to share with you another special place I visited on my trip to Rome last month. Unlike the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon was a place I had planned to see months before our flight. Although it's in the heart of the city, the days went by and it seemed like we wouldn't be able to visit it, but I never lost hope. Despite what my travel companions said, I insisted that this would be one of our best experiences in Rome. It was on a Saturday afternoon, before our concert, that we finally arrived at the Piazza della Rotonda and admired the Pantheon from its imposing facade.
Rotunda Square and Pantheon Obelisk
The entire city of Rome is special, we all know that, but there are places that are guaranteed tourist attractions, and in this case, it's not just the Pantheon. The Piazza della Rotonda itself had hundreds, maybe thousands, of people the day I visited, possibly because it was a Saturday. Many people sat around the obelisk or took photos in front of the imposing Greek architectural structure. Since childhood, I've been fascinated by Greek architecture and mythology, which isn't so different from Roman mythology, in my opinion, and this place is ideal for feeling like you're part of ancient Rome and ancient Greece, because it has a little bit of both, literally, since much of the marble in the Pantheon came from Greece. My travel companions were a bit tired of walking that day, but I had already bought the tickets, so they didn't have a choice 😅
Dome of the Pantheon
Currently, the entrance fee to the Pantheon is 5 euros, but it seems to be a recent change because it was free before. Even so, I think it's a reasonable price to see a place that has stood for almost 2,000 years and is steeped in history. In its beginnings, it was a Temple for All the Gods, and little by little, the remains of important Roman figures like King Victor Emmanuel II were brought here. Unlike its rectangular facade, you realize that the interior of the building is circular, and at the top, the great dome stands out, even larger than the main dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. A striking feature is the opening in the middle of the dome that lets in light and rain. It's truly impressive to be under the dome and appreciate the wonders and beauty of the Pantheon; on the other hand, it's now just another church in Rome.
For a long time now, the Pantheon has been the Church of Santa Maria e dei Martiri, which has helped preserve it over time. Even when I visited, people were praying near the altar, and it's an area where tourists weren't allowed to pass. Everything about this place is special and historic. It was one of the places in Rome where I learned the most about the city's past, and I didn't even pay for a guided tour. Everything is written near the artwork in various languages, especially English, Spanish, and Italian. There's no way to get lost here; you just have to make time and add the Pantheon of Agrippa to your must-see list when you visit Rome.
The Pantheon of Agrippa in Rome is open to visitors from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with some variations, such as on the first of each month and during Mass. For example, I was there on Saturday at 4:00 PM, but by 5:00 PM I wouldn't have been able to enter freely because Mass was approaching. I hope you enjoyed these humble photos I shared with you. I wasn't very lucky that they didn't have too many people in them, but the crowds don't detract from the beauty of the place I want to highlight. Thank you for traveling with me through this post. A sincere hug from afar to you 🙏

There is something about your photographs that truly captivates me. They are all beautiful, and you made me travel through them. I thank you for that.
I didn't know they charged admission now. When I had the opportunity to go, admission was free and it wasn't as crowded as it is now. I was lucky enough to spend a long time marveling at this great architecture and enjoying the peace that a place like this can give you, even in the midst of people.
