The Evolution of my Family Weekends | Weekend-Engagement 187
On Friday I realized that this would be the first weekend of the year and the last of my holiday season, since next week my work routine starts again and I asked myself: what activities can I do this weekend to make it special for my mom before going back to the capital? Besides, Saturday was Three Kings Day, the last Christmas celebration that comes every January 6th and that we have shared as a family since my childhood. After a lot of thinking I think I came to the most basic conclusion but the one that would feed our souls the most, spending time as a family...
The only problem here is that it is no longer easy to say that we will spend a weekend as a family, since the void left by Dad's death almost a year ago is still very intense and my brother has spent every holiday working. I still found a way for us to feel good and for my mom to have her traditional Three Kings Day as a family, I just had to understand that my weekends have evolved, it is no longer about the blood that runs through my veins, our friends have become family since a few years ago, but it is the first time we share important holidays, and the most beautiful thing is to discover that they were also sad, because we all have been visited by death in our homes lately, and inviting them to get together to share was the best idea I could think of for the weekend.
I achieved all the activities I wanted for my mom. We left the house to have lunch with our friends, who brightened up the end of the year, we cooked together a quite traditional dish and then we ate and had a while of interesting chats. Then we went back home and my girl arrived to brighten up our evening together with my mother-in-law, it's the first time her mom has visited us since she and I started our relationship more than six years ago, so it was very pleasant. We watched movies and drank lots of coffee and the goodies the Three Wise Men brought us.
Family weekends still exist for this little family, although now it has been transformed. There is no reason to be sad, we have to live and be happy for those who are no longer here. I hope to continue having moments like this, especially to give them to my mom and see a smile on my face, that is my new mission every day.
