Phone Photography Contest 110 | A House Illuminated

Happy weekend to everyone in the Feel Good community! I've arrived on the last day of the Phone Photography Contest. It was a hectic week, but I'm happy to be here to share some pictures I took with my phone of a special place I loved. This is Federico García Lorca's summer vacation home, known as La Huerta de San Vicente, located in Granada, Spain, specifically in the park that bears the name of this great 20th-century poet. I once wrote here on my blog about this House Museum, where we sing some of his poems that composers and arrangers have set to music over time.

Of course, I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to take lots of pictures in this place, since everything caught my eye: the decor, the piano, the floor, and even the lamps. The whole house is full of details from the beginning of the last century, highlighting its elegance, though at the same time it's humble compared to the luxuries one might find in old castles. The house is very bright, with many windows letting in natural daylight, and although in this post I'm focusing on some photos of the lamps, they're quite dimly lit, perfect for getting ready for bed.

What I can assure you is that each lamp was more beautiful than the last, especially because of their antique designs. For example, you can see the one I'm showing you above this paragraph; I don't know how many photos I took in just two minutes 😅 Another thing that impressed me was learning that this house was about to turn 100 years old, just since the Lorca family lived there, although I don't remember if they told us it was older. The point is that, beyond the modifications made to maintain it as a museum today, its antique design clearly shows that it has survived the test of time with great elegance, and that people honor the legacy of this great man, even with details like this.

I had more photos of other lamps, but I already shared those in older blog posts. Getting back to the topic of lamps, they always fascinated me as a child. I was afraid of the dark, so I always made sure my parents had a beautiful lamp for me in my room. They were never as elegant as these, and I usually tripped over them and they broke, which is why I remember more than one. In the houses we lived in before we had our own family home, there were beautiful lamps on the ceilings, back in the early 1990s when yellow light was all the rage. The effect of the yellow light passing through the crystals reflected off the upper part of the walls and made me dream. But then we moved to our own house, one that was built from scratch, and I never saw a lamp on the ceiling again for various reasons.

Whenever I visit a new house, the lamps are usually the first things that catch my eye. Just by looking at them, I can usually draw conclusions about the rest of the interior design. I also tend to notice the sofas, the tables if they're visible, and if I'm lucky, and if the people I usually hang out with have a piano, then I might just move in with them! 🤣 For now, I continue to live a minimalist lifestyle with my wife in a small space where you don't have to walk far to get from the bedroom to the kitchen. I hope that one day I can decorate my own home to my own taste, a property of my own here in the capital. And when that time comes, you can be sure it will be a very bright house with beautiful lamps. In fact, you'll read those posts here on Hive when it happens! 🙏

Regarding Spain, you already know there are many places I haven't yet visited and some cities where I felt I needed to explore and enjoy myself more, since the only time I've been there has been for work. Granada is one of those cities that has so much to offer that it just makes you want to go there for a vacation and enjoy everything it has to offer tourists. And although I would love to return to Federico García Lorca Park, I assure you that I explored this house museum from corner to corner, so it's okay if life doesn't allow me to return. Singing his poems here, inside and in front of his house, with our pianist playing from inside with the windows open to let the sound out, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience... Well, I hope you enjoyed this post, made with so much love. Thank you to everyone who reads and supports my content. We'll chat in the comments, and I'll see you in the next post! ✌️
