Phone Photography Contest 100 | Piazza Della Repubblica, Roma, Italy

IMG_20251018_220053.jpg

Finally, one of my favorite spaces on Hive has reached its 100th week! I'm referring to the Phone Photography Contest, organized by @untilwelearn, whom I congratulate because, as a community manager, I know it's not easy to successfully run an initiative week after week. Thank you for this little corner of joy, where I've allowed myself to have fun and experiment by photographing all sorts of details with my phone. For this occasion, I want to share one of my favorite moments from my recent trip to Rome, although not all my fellow choir members feel the same way 🤣 This was the moment we mistakenly visited the Piazza della Repubblica on the fourth day of our travel...

Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs:

This place highlights my passion for photographing everything that impresses me. As a lover of architecture and travel, it was a moment I needed to capture with my camera. It turns out that that night, after the vigil in honor of the future saints, just before the day of the canonization, most of the choir singers boarded a bus that wasn't ours. It was headed to the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, near Termini Station, and quite far from our hotel, which was actually located on the outskirts of the city in Fimicino. We were stranded there for almost an hour; everyone was tired and hungry, but I had spent four days looking at the piazza from the bus windows, and it wasn't a place I had planned to visit. So I was very happy when they dropped us off there in the middle of the night, with the curved buildings, brightly lit in white, and very elegant.

The entire Piazza della Repubblica strikes me as an iconic place. Here you'll find the twin Exedra buildings that flank the square, facing the Baths of Diocletian and the imposing Fountain of the Naiads. Across Via Nazionale stands the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri. All of it is built on one of Rome's most historic sites, in fact, on one of its seven hills. I couldn't help but wander off from the group, and just now, as I write this, I realize I took 140 photos. We were still in our concert outfits because there wasn't time to change before leaving, and no one imagined we'd get stuck in this area. I truly remember it fondly, and my only regret is not having explored the place more thoroughly—and I mean for longer. I hope you enjoyed the pictures as much as I did that night. Thank you for reading and supporting, and I hope this space reaches another 100 weeks of activity 🙏
