Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria Church, Home of Blessed Jose Gregorio Hernandez
It is with great excitement that I start the month by greeting the Architecture and Design community of Hive, a space that has become a favorite of mine. I have developed a passion for visiting Catholic temples of great relevance in my two cities, Maracay, where I was born, and Caracas, where I work. In fact I have noticed a difference between both cities; Caracas being so overpopulated and small is very complicated to take good pictures of the facades from the outside, unlike Maracay where there is a wide and masterful entrance for almost all the temples.
Today I present to you the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria. One of the most visited by parishioners and tourists because in it lie the remains of Blessed José Gregorio Hernández, who was a Catholic doctor very dedicated to service and love for others, to whom hundreds of miracles related to health in Venezuela are attributed.
This picture above is of the first impression upon entering the church. It is very crowded at every mass celebration, especially on Sundays. Its architecture is similar to others here in Caracas where a large golden wall stands out at the back of the altar. It particularly gave me the impression of having colonial aspects, although with many modifications that must have been made over the years; however its construction and opening was in 1708 and is inspired by neo-classicism.
Being so old, it has several characteristics of the time, such as a bell tower and a musical organ that attract my attention, as they give me the pleasure of feeling in a very old and well preserved place. The building is rectangular and also has small side altars. The lamps did not cause me much impact in its design, but at dusk it offers a dim luminosity that reminds me of the candlelight in movies of old castles. I don't think these photos do honor to the light inside the church.
In addition to being a normal catholic temple to celebrate mass, I have the impression that it is also a museum. I think this because of its great historical value, the relics it has and the number of people who go to the church in tourist mode. In the 60's it was declared national patrimony, precisely because of the colonial art and its antiquity.
To the right of the church there is a shop with exclusive sales of Catholic souvenirs and merchandise, although the material related to Dr. José Gregorio Hernández stands out. I think I forgot to mention it at the beginning, but the church is located in the Plaza La Candelaria, one of the favorite places in the city of Caracas and there is a lot of good vibes and joy for various activities around it.
This image above shows the resting place of the remains of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, and one of the reasons why the church constantly receives visitors and is so popular among the temples of Caracas. Catholics and non-Catholics alike come here with much respect for belief and faith. Unlike many ancient saints and blessed, the Doctor was a person who lived until recently and the power of his work is still remembered and transmitted among the last generations.
There is a sculpture in the courtyard of the temple, to the right of Doctor José Gregorio Hernández. Although it is outside, I noticed it on the way out. But it reminds us that it is not just a normal catholic temple, but it is full of celebration to that great man, and yet it never fails to give importance to God who is the main motive of every church.
I say goodbye hoping you liked my post this week and reminding you that I take my pictures with my Tecno Pova II. I don't usually make edits to present them in this community as I captured them. Have a great new month!...

Bro I remember when you visited the 7 temples during holy week, this one looked great in the pictures, I liked that you reviewed it in more depth here because it certainly has an incredible historical value and not to mention the value it holds for believers.
From the outside it gives an impression and inside it is another world; from the outside it looks very simple, colonial as you mention and with those Greco Roman columns that we can see in most religious temples. Inside I liked the colors that give life to the church, the green and the brick color that are a good combination because at a psychological level they speak of calm, peace and connection to the earth from life.
Each of its spaces is very well decorated and without losing the essence of God and much less of José Gregorio Hernandez, who has been involved in many miracles in the lives of those who fervently believe in him even in the present 🙏💖.
It is a temple that has been well cared for and maintains a warm and welcoming atmosphere for its visitors, the photos were great my Bro 📷✅. I congratulate you for this post and it was great to see you with Jhoxi in the photos 💞.... You Rockkk!!! 🙌😀💛
You Rockkk!!! 🙌😀💛
Hello Fercho! Thank you very much for your visit brother. In fact, I appreciate that anecdote about the colors of the interior and the psychological part, since it makes me appreciate and learn something more that I was unaware of. There are some photos here of Holy Week, but I really went back to visit it to learn a little more and to be able to make this post. Without a doubt, it is one of the most important churches in Caracas for everything I mentioned. What more can I say, thanks brother 🫂
Saludos 👋
Greetings again! I see then that we overlap a lot in downtown Caracas. I also visit that mall a lot. You are absolutely right about the architecture of the temples, even if the people are not Catholic, if they are lovers of old or modern buildings it is still very interesting to go in and take a look. Thank you for your words and for visiting my post...
Hi Jesus, nice to meet you again.
This church is very nice and elegant with its golden altar, I wonder what kind of material it is, I doubt it is gold like the churches in other countries, but it looks just as nice.
I imagine that it stands out from the other churches for being the place where the remains of Dr. Jose Gregorio Hernandez are, he is a symbol of catholic faith not only for our country but for several Latin American countries, in Colombia he has great fervor.
I like its big columns and arches, besides the sculpture outside, you took nice pictures, they don't need editing. Greetings and thanks for showing the architecture of our religious temples.
A big hug and fraternal greeting for you friend! I see that its great pillars cause an impact on those who visit the post. At the time I did not pay attention to that detail, and in fact they even bothered me the first time I went because I couldn't see well towards the altar. But I have changed my mind and I see them with the importance they deserve. Taking the photos I asked myself the same question regarding the golden wall in the background. I think I'll take it upon myself to find out. You never think it could be real gold, but I'm not sure. Thank you for your visit dear.

Greetings @jesuslnrs, the inside of the church has many incredible details and decorations, the altar is spectacular, also the arch at the entrance and the columns on the sides, divide this area from the rest of the temple, the columns of the facade add elegance and warmth to this great work of architecture and design that combines different decorative elements. Thank you for sharing your visit.
Happy saturday!
And thanks to you for visiting my post and appreciating every detail highlighted in it, even down to what I ignored to say like the arch in the entryway. This is one of the simplest temples I have visited, but there are still wonders to be found in it, plus a lot of history that goes along with it...
