Main Hall of the Central University of Venezuela

Once again I greet with much affection to all the members of the Hive Architecture and Design community! Today is a special day for me, my choral group is celebrating 19 years of artistic career, and although I only have almost eight years belonging to it, it has given me dream moments in my work as a musician. I remember the first time I came to sing in Caracas with the choir, before being part of its ranks, my first trip to the capital and my first concert was in the Main Hall of the Central University of Venezuela, in 2011. Today, 14 years later I have the opportunity to celebrate being part of the group and returning to use this beautiful theater as our artistic home, and this is the third consecutive week that we have been doing musical life in the Main Hall.

¡Nuevamente saludo con mucho cariño a todos los miembros de la comunidad de Arquitectura y Diseño de Hive!. Hoy es un día especial para mí, mi agrupación coral está cumpliendo 19 años de trayectoria artística, y aunque yo solo tengo casi ocho años perteneciendo a ella me ha regalado momentos de ensueño en mi labor como músico. Recuerdo que la primera vez que vine a cantar a Caracas junto a la coral, antes de ser parte de sus filas, mi primer viaje a la capital y mi primer concierto fue en el Aula Magna de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, en el años 2011. Hoy, 14 años después tengo la oportunidad de celebrarlo siendo parte de la agrupación y volviendo a usar este hermoso teatro como nuestra casa artística, y es que ya esta es la tercera semana consecutiva que tenemos haciendo vida musical en el Aula Magna.

The entire Central University is surrounded by works of art, murals and sculptures by renowned artists in Venezuela, especially around the Aula Magna. From the outside you can see it in concrete color, with two large corridors that slide up and down so that people can enter the upper area and the lower courtyard of the theater. This stage is very large, I dare say that one of the largest in Caracas and what stands out most are the Calder clouds, beautiful and colorful geometric pieces that move across the ceiling of the place that make a dream effect with the play of lights at the time of the shows.

Toda la Universidad Central está rodeada de obras de arte, murales y esculturas de artistas de gran renombre en Venezuela, especialmente en los al rededores del Aula Magna. Desde afuera se le puede apreciar de color concreto, con dos grandes pasillos que se deslizan de arriba a bajo para que las personas puedan ingresar a la zona superior y al patio bajo del teatro. Este escenario es muy grande, me atrevo a decir que uno de los más grandes de Caracas y lo que más destaca son las nubes de Calder, unas hermosas y coloridas piezas geométricas que se desplazan por todo el techo del lugar que hacen un efecto de ensueño con el juego de luces a la hora de los espectáculos.

I think the only bad thing about the hall is that it is very dark, even when it is brightly lit, but it is still perfect for holding events. Along the main aisles of the lower courtyard there are many red carpets that go from the entrances to the stage. The seats are a beautiful beige color in the front and various colors in the back that match the clouds perfectly. I couldn't tell you exactly how many people could fit in here, but it is too many, in fact our choir and orchestra look very small on such a large stage. The stage I mention to you is wood colored both on the floor and on top, it is a work of art. It is not always used for music, but for university events, although at the foot of the stage there seems to be a small orchestra pit.

Creo que lo único malo de la sala es que es muy oscura, incluso cuando está muy iluminada, pero sigue siendo perfecta para realizar actos. Por los pasillos principales del patio bajo hay muchas alfombras rojas que van desde las entradas hasta la tarima. Las butacas tienen un hermoso color beige en la parte delantera y diversos colores en la parte trasera que combinan a perfección con las nubes. No sabría decir exactamente cuantos asistentes podrían entrar aquí, pero es demasiado, de hecho nuestro coro y nuestra orquesta se ven muy pequeñas en una tarima tan amplia. La tarima que les menciono es de color madera tanto en el suelo como en la parte superior, es toda una obra de arte. No siempre se usa para la música, sino para actos de la universidad, aunque al pie de la tarima pareciera tener una pequeña fosa para orquestas.

These last pictures above are of a smaller amphitheater room located to the right of the Aula Magna, also dark and also with red carpets and lots of wood colors, an annex of the main hall. The whole complex is an ode to modern architecture and a gift to Venezuela, I think everyone in my country should appreciate the beauty of the University City of Caracas, especially the imposing Aula Magna that has seen the graduation of the professionals of my country. Estas últimas fotografías de arriba son de una pequeña sala anfiteátrica más pequeñas que se ubica a la derecha del Aula Magna, también oscura y también con alfombras rojas y muchos colores madera, un anexo de la sala principal. Todo el complejo es una oda a la arquitectura moderna y un regalo para Venezuela, creo que todos en mi país deberían apreciar alguna vez la belleza de la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, especialmente de la imponente Aula Magna que ha visto graduarse a los profesionales de mi país. Gracias a todos los que han visitado, leen y poyan mis post de apreciación a la arquitectura, ya se ha convertido en una pasión para mí llevar mis impresiones a la blockchain, ¡Feliz día!...
