My choral group is a break in life that I enjoy every day, every experience is wonderful and I feel that we always climb a step further on the road to success. We are not perfect, but we work very hard so that everything is well interpreted and in the right style. This is a job that definitely can only be achieved as a team, and we have a great team, among our members we not only stand out for being singers, many play musical instruments, others are choral directors, some compose, others are arrangers, actors and others, we all make some special contribution to the group.

Mi agrupación coral es un seceso en la vida que disfruto a diario, cada experiencia es maravillosa y siento que siempre escalamos un peldaño más en el camino al éxito. No somos perfectos, pero trabajamos muy duro para que todo se encuentre bien interpretado y en el estilo correcto. Esto es un trabajo que definitivamente solo puede lograse en equipo, y tenemos un gran equipo, entre nuestros integrantes no solo destacamos por ser cantantes, muchos tocan instrumentos musicales, otros somos directores coral, unos componen, otros son arreglistas, actores y demás, todos hacemos algún aporte especial a la agrupación.

Today I share with you a video of our weekend concerts for peace, in fact we are already ending this season to give way to our next experience that even we ourselves have us in expectation. The work you can listen to is called Ave Maris Stella, and it is a composition by Eva Ugalde, Spanish choir director, singer and teacher, a great contemporary artist who has the pleasure of seeing her music being performed in various corners of the world, including our humble version, or rather, the version of the girls of the choir...

Hoy les comparto un video de nuestros conciertos de fines de semana por la paz, de hecho ya estamos terminando esta temporada para dar paso a nuestra siguiente experiencia que aún a nosotros mismos nos tiene a la expectativa. La obra que pueden escuchar se llama Ave Maris Stella, y es una composición de Eva Ugalde, directora de coros, cantante y profesora española, una gran artista contemporánea que tiene el placer de ver en vida su música siendo interpretada en varios rincones del mundo, incluyendo nuestra humilde versión, o mejor dicho, al versión de las chicas de la coral...

In my country there are more sopranos than altos, I think it is a peculiarity of our tropical location in the world, and yet they have been able to adapt in the distribution of voices. Being a soprano is not an easy task, everyone can be one by having the color and by singing very high, but being a good soprano and that your voice does not bother the ear of the viewer is something that not all achieve, there is a vocal technique to achieve success in that art, of course the same rule applies to other voices, but I emphasize them because the incredible roundness of our sopranos is a fundamental part of the professional color of our choir.

En mi país existen más sopranos que contraltos, creo que es una peculiaridad de nuestra ubicación tropical en el mundo, y aún así ellas han sabido adaptarse en la distribución de las voces. Ser soprano no es una tarea fácil, todos pueden serlo por tener el color y por cantar muy agudo, pero ser una buena soprano y que su voz no moleste al oído del espectador es algo que no todas logran, hay una técnica vocal para lograr el éxito en ese arte, por supuesto que la misma regla aplica para las demás voces, pero hago énfasis en ellas porque la increíble redondez de nuestras sopranos es parte fundamental del color profesional de nuestra coral.

One of the first interests I had to enter this group was precisely the sound, especially the girls sounded like angels, I heard them from afar and the closer I got to the rehearsal room it felt like the entrance to heaven, in fact I entered the hall, my skin tingled and I let out some tears, that was in 2013, at that moment I knew I had to be part of that team. Little by little I realized that almost all the girls are sopranos or at least mezzo sopranos, I think that real altos to such an amount should be found more in northern European countries, although it always depends on the physiognomy of each one. The fact is that they sound very good in their four-voice division, some have more treble qualities and others have impressive basses.

Uno de los primeros intereses que tuve de entrar a esta agrupación fue precisamente el sonido, especialmente las chicas sonaban como ángeles, las escuché desde lejos y mientras más me acercaba a la sala de ensayo se sentía como la entrada al cielo, de hecho entré al salón, la piel se me estremeció y solté algunas lágrimas, eso fue en 2013, en eso momento supe que debía ser parte de ese equipo. Poco a poco me di cuenta que casi todas las chicas son sopranos o al menos mezzo sopranos, creo que contraltos reales a tal cantidad se debe encontrar más en países del norte europeo, aunque siempre depende de la fisionomía de cada quien. El caso es que suenan muy bien en su división a cuatro voces, unas tienen más cualidades para los agudos y otras tienen unos graves impresionantes.

Of course, not all the clear voices are women, there are some boys who sing in the contraltos, and they do it quite well, today there are 5, but even before I entered there was a gentleman who sang with the sopranos 1, imagine how impressive it is to hear him, in fact today he sings at the Paris Opera, he was the first Venezuelan countertenor to enter there, and he has been one of the artists who has given more reputation to our choir.

Claro que no todas las voces claras son mujeres, hay algunos chicos que cantan en la cuerda de las contraltos, y lo hacen bastante bien, hoy en día son 5, pero incluso antes de que yo entrara hubo un caballero que cantaba con las sopranos 1, imagínense lo impresionante que es escucharlo, de hecho hoy en día canta en la Opera de París, fue el primer contratenor venezolano en ingresar ahí, y ha sido uno de los artistas que más reputación le ha dado a nuestra coral.

Our director always takes care to put in the repertoire exclusive music for light voices and for dark voices; in case you do not know the difference, is when the female voices and male voices are separated, although today we must be a little careful when talking about this, because in my country there are many women who also sing tenors, and sometimes even better than the same men hahahaha, it really is beautiful to enjoy the vocal nuances of the singers, I am passionate about it, in fact I am a choir team, instrumental music is usually in the background for me.

Nuestra directora siempre se encarga de poner en el repertorio música exclusiva para voces claras y para voces oscuras; por si no conoces la diferencia, es cuando se separan las voces femeninas y las voces masculinas, aunque hoy día hay que tener un poco de cuidado al hablar de esto, porque en mi país hay muchas mujeres que también cantan los tenores, y a veces hasta mejor que los mismos hombres jajajaja, de verdad que es hermoso disfrutar de los matices vocales de los cantantes, a mí me apasiona, de hecho soy equipo coro, la música instrumental suele estar en un segundo plano para mí.

Among all the male members of the choir I have a special rapport with the women, especially the sopranos because Jhoxiris is the string leader, the one who sets up the music and organizes the whole team, so I tend to be like the first gentleman of the sopranos, the male equivalent of the first lady hahahaha. Whenever there is a break or a rehearsal ends I always go to her area instead of staying with my fellow tenors, and in fact sometimes I intrude in her meetings while waiting for Jhoxi, of course, without disturbing or giving my opinion. Another good thing is that I get first hand gossip that the girls can talk about the guys hahahaha, but everything is always very healthy, they are amazing people.

Entre todos los varones de la coral tengo un acercamiento especial con las mujeres, especialmente las sopranos porque Jhoxiris es la jefe de cuerda, quien monta la música y organiza a todo el quipo, así que suelo ser como el primer caballero de las sopranos, el equivalente masculino a la primera dama jajajaja. Cada vez que hay una pausa o termina un ensayo siempre me dirijo hasta la zona de ellas en vez de permanecer con mis compañeros tenores, y de hecho a veces me entrometo en las reuniones de ella mientras espero a Jhoxi, eso sí, sin molestar ni opinar. Otra cosa buena es que me llegan los chismes de primera mano que las chicas puedan hablar de los varones jajajaja, pero siempre todo es muy sano, ellas son increíbles personas.

All our ladies are worth gold, and unlike us where some males excel as choristers and others as soloists, in the female group they all have the ability to be soloists. That makes me think that the male voice can be a little more difficult to work with, in fact my voice, the tenor is very complicated. I have the treble, but not the right technique to make it as an opera singer. You don't touch the girls have color for opera, but they do have impressive voices. In fact it is very difficult for new members to enter, practically one of those who are already there would have to resign, and of the many people who join, there are only one or two new girls left, there is a lot of competition.

Todas nuestras damas valen oro, y a diferencia de nosotros donde algunos varones destacan como coristas y otros como solistas, en el grupo femenino todas tienen la capacidad para ser solistas. Eso me hace pensar que la voz masculina puede ser un poco más difícil para trabajar, de hecho mi voz, el tenor es muy complicado. Tengo los agudos, pero no la técnica correcta para lograr ser un cantante de ópera. No tocas las chicas tienen color para la ópera, pero sí tienen voces impresionantes. De hecho es muy difícil que entren nuevas integrantes, prácticamente tendría que renunciar una de las que ya están y de muchas personas que adicionan solo queda una o dos chicas nuevas, hay mucha competencia.
