Harmonious Autumn

Life always surprises me in new and pleasant ways... For the past few months, Sundays have become my favorite days of the week, and it's for many reasons: going to church, exploring new places, spending time with friends, singing at a concert, and so on. But this Sunday, which I'll write about today, my only Sunday in Rome, was truly special, unforgettable, and sublime. I did what I usually do on those days, but with a touch of magic thanks to the autumn weather, which was in perfect harmony with the city and with my soul.

La vida siempre me sorprende de alguna manera nueva y grata... Desde hace algunos meses, los Domingos se han convertido en mi días preferido de la semana, y es por muchas razones, ya sea ir a la iglesia, salir a explorar lugares nuevos, compartir con mis amigos, cantar en un concierto y demás, pero este Domingo del cual escribiré hoy, mi único Domingo en Roma, fue realmente especial, inmortal y sublime. Hice lo que generalmente hago esos días, pero con un toque de magia que puso el otoño que se encontraba en total armonía con la ciudad y con mi alma.

My day began in the Vatican, in the imposing St. Peter's Square, a place I've admired since I was very young. I was taught to love and respect my faith from an early age, and my parents did such a good job that today, as an adult, although I understand the injustices of the world, I also understand a little more about God, about the Church, its good and bad aspects, and about true love, the kind we carry within us, which means everything and is unbreakable. The Vatican moved me deeply, as did being connected with my mother in Venezuela, with the Pope in front of me, with my wife by my side, and with God and my father in my heart. I don't even have many photos of that moment; the spiritual force didn't allow me to take out my phone, other than these snapshots I took at the beginning and a few at the end of the Mass.

Mi día comenzó en el Vaticano, en la imponente Plaza de San Pedro, ese lugar que tanto he admirado desde muy pequeño, ya que me enseñaron a amar y respetar mi fe dese temprana edad, y fue tan bueno el trabajo de mis padres que hoy de adulto, aunque entiendo las injusticias del mundo también comprendo un poco más sobre Dios, sobre la iglesia, lo bueno y lo malo que pueda tener, y el verdadero amor, ese que llevamos dentro, que significa todo y que es inquebrantable. El Vaticano me conmovió mucho, y también estar conectado con mi mamá en Venezuela, con el Papa frente a mí, con mi esposa a mi lado y con Dios y mi papá en el alma. Ni siquiera tengo muchas fotos de ese momento, la fuerza espiritual no me permitió sacar el teléfono, más que esto que capturé al inicio y otras al final de la misa.

It was a unique moment in history, as you know, it was the canonization of the first two saints for my country, and many people in Venezuela were watching us, people from the Church, who respect this event with all their hearts. There was a very special moment, in the middle of Mass, when everyone fell silent: the Pope, the choir, the crowd... It lasted about 30 seconds, but it was unanimous. I was so impressed that I looked back to make sure the thousands of people were still there, and there they were, in the midst of an absolute silence that only allowed you to hear the birds singing while the autumn breeze caressed you.

Fue un momento único en la historia, como sabrán, fue una canonización de los dos primeros santos para mi país, y mucha gente en Venezuela estaba pendiente de nosotros, gente de la iglesia, que respetan este evento con toda su alma. Hubo un momento muy especial, en plena misa, donde todo el mundo hizo silencio, el Papa, el coro, la multitud... Duró como 30 segundos, pero fue unánime, tanto me impresionó que miré hacia atrás, para cerciorarme de que las miles de personas siguieran ahí, y ahí estaban, en medio de un silencio absoluto que solo permitía escuchar el canto de las aves mientras te acariciaba la brisa otoñal.

I've always longed to experience that perfect autumn you see in movies, where green is the least visible color in the falling leaves... I caught a glimpse of it, but I know it was still very early, only October 19th. The weather was very similar to Caracas during those days in Rome, but that fresh autumnal breeze made me feel at one with the season. Leaving the Vatican and walking along the banks of the Tiber River, in front of Castel Sant'Angelo and the bridge covered in sculptures, stirred the most sublime feelings within me; I even forgot I was with a group. In that moment, I disconnected from life and let myself be carried away by gratitude 🙏

Siempre he querido conocer ese otoño perfecto que se puede apreciar en películas, donde el verde es el tono que menos se aprecia en las hojas que caen de los árboles... Algo de ello pude observar, pero sé que aún era muy temprano, a penas era 19 de Octubre, un clima muy parecido al de Caracas esos días en Roma, pero esa brisa fresca otoñal que me hizo armonizar con esta estación. Salir del Vaticano y caminar al borde del Río Tíber, frente al Castillo de San Sant'angelo y el puente lleno de esculturas provocó en mí los sentimientos más sublimes, hasta olvidé que estaba en grupo. En ese momento me desconecté de la vida y me dejé llevar por la gratitud 🙏
