I wish everyone in this Hive travel community a happy start to the week! Today I want to mark a very special place on the map, one I honestly never imagined I'd see, and whose importance and grandeur I only truly understood when I stood before such majesty... I had seen this place in many movies and in several Instagram photos, and yet it wasn't my first destination when we visited Rome, but my wife longed to visit the Trevi Fountain, just as much as I wanted to see the Colosseum, and in fact, we visited both places on the same day.

Hoy quiero marcar en el mapa un lugar muy especial, que sinceramente no imaginé que alguna vez conocería y que a la vez entendí su importancia e imponencia únicamente cuando estuve parado ante tanta majestuosidad... Este lugar lo había visto en muchas películas y en varias fotografías en Instagram, y aún así no era mi primer destino cuando visitamos Roma, pero mi esposa sí anhelaba visitar la Fontana di Trevi, tanto como yo deseaba conocer el Coliseo, y de hecho ambos lugares los conocimos el mismo día.

These photos aren't from our first visit to the Trevi Fountain, but from our second. As many know, it's a very popular tourist spot, practically a must-see, and the sheer amount of detail in the Baroque artists' work is matched only by the number of people who gather around the fountain. One day we arrived earlier than usual; we didn't get up early, in fact, we arrived at nine in the morning, which was fine with us. We didn't have to wait in line to get in and were able to take lots of pictures. Visiting it is free, but you should avoid going on a Monday or Friday at the time we went, as it might be a day for collecting the coins people throw in or a maintenance day.

Estas fotografías no son de nuestra primera visita a la Fontana di Trevi, sino de nuestra segunda vez. Como muchos sabrán, es un lugar muy concurrido por los turistas, una parada prácticamente obligatoria, y la misma cantidad de detalles en el arte de estos artistas del barroco es comparable a la cantidad de personas que se posan al rededor de la gran fuente. Un día llegamos más temprano, no madrugamos, de hecho llegamos a las nueve de la mañana y fue aceptable para nosotros. No hicimos cola para entrar y pudimos tomar muchas fotografías. Visitarla es gratis, y solo debes prevenir de ir un Lunes o Viernes a la hora que fuimos nosotros, ya que puede ser día de recoger las monedas que las personas lanzan o podría ser día de mantenimiento de la misma.

El lugar es muy agradable, está rodeado por algunos edificios que brindan sobran la mayor parte del tiempo, como la Iglesia de los Santos Vicente y Anastasio de Trevi, y en general hay muchos negocios para beber, comer o quizás merendar un deliciosos gelato. Claro que si buscas lugares más económicos tienes que alejarte un poco de la Plaza de Trevi. Me sorprende mucho saber que este arte que se acerca a sus 300 años desde que lo crearon se mantenga tan hermoso y cuidado a detalle, y es algo que amé de Roma. Saben lo que tienen y lo usan con elegancia y estilo para beneficio de la ciudad y también de nosotros como turistas.

Something that amused me and I found super interesting and magical is the custom that has spread of throwing coins into the Trevi Fountain. I thought it was just imitating so many movies, but no, it seems that a German archaeologist started it centuries ago with the intention of fulfilling his wish to visit Rome again. I wasn't going to let the same thing happen to me as in Madrid with the bear's backside, so I made sure to bring my coins and even recorded a video for Instagram 😅 I threw in one coin, wishing to return to Rome; that's all I need, because it turns out that throwing in two coins can guarantee you'll find love, and throwing in three coins, I think, will not only get you love but also get you married. It's all very romantic, but the truth is that the city earns an income of 3,000 euros a day just from the coins in the Trevi Fountain, or at least that's what they say...

Algo que me divirtió y me pareció súper interesante y mágico es la costumbre que se fue esparciendo de arrojar monedas a la Fontana di Trevi, pensé que era solo por imitación a tantas películas, pero no, parece ser que un arqueólogo alemán lo hizo hace unos siglos con la intensión de que se cumpliera su deseo de volver a visitar Roma. Yo no iba a dejar que me pasara lo mismo que en Madrid con el trasero del oso, así que me aseguré de llevar mis monedas y hasta grabé mi video para Instagram 😅 Arrojé una moneda, deseando volver a Roma, es todo lo que necesito, porque resulta que arrojar dos monedas podría asegurar que conseguirás el amor, y arrojar tres monedas creo que además de conseguir el amor también te casarías. Todo es muy romántico, pero la verdad es que la ciudad obtiene un ingreso de 3000 euros al día, solo por las monedas en la Fontana di Trevi, o al menos eso dicen...

In conclusion, I was just as happy visiting this place as I was visiting other iconic monuments in the city, and I'm grateful to my wife and friends for motivating me to go there, because if it were up to me, I wouldn't have left the Vatican or the Colosseum. It's a must-see, it's living art, and it's worth going all the way there and sitting in front of the fountain to appreciate all the details. This isn't even the facade of the building, but it's definitely the main attraction and an icon of Rome... I hope you enjoyed this post. En conclusión, fui tan feliz visitando este lugar como otros monumentos emblemáticos de la ciudad, y agradezco a mi esposa y mis amigos que me hayan motivado a acercarme hasta allá, ya que si fuera por mi propia cuenta no saldría del Vaticano o del Coliseo. Es una parada obligatoria, es arte vivo y vale la pena llegar hasta ahí y sentarse frente a la fuente para apreciar tantos detalles. Esta ni siquiera es la fachada del edificio, pero definitivamente es la atracción principal y un ícono de Roma...
