Bolivar Square of Maracay, Venezuela

IMG_20250516_111457.jpg

Happy weekend to all of you!, hope you are doing well. I had long wanted to visit the Plaza Bolivar in Maracay, Venezuela. Maracay is the city where I was born, but now I have to travel to visit it, since I live in the capital. When I visit Maracay, despite the heat, now that I am an adult I see everything differently. This square was a fixed place in my childhood, my parents used to bring me, especially in carnival to show my costumes and play with other children, but now when I visit it I can only appreciate its architecture and its beauty, and it is a very special area in the State of Aragua.

Simon Bolivar is a very important character for the history of Venezuela, and also for other brother countries, so since the times of independence it has been normal to have a square with his name in most regions of the country; I say this because it is noteworthy that Maracay stands out for having the largest Bolivar Square in Venezuela, something that makes it very interesting and a must for tourists visiting the State of Aragua.

Possibly I did not visit the plaza at the best time to enjoy it. At night it is decorated with many lights and sometimes the fountains on Bolivar Avenue are lit, but I was able to pass by at noon, when the sun is stronger. The good thing is that I still enjoyed doing this tour that I share today through photographs, and the good thing about visiting it in the middle of the day is that it is clear of people, so it is a perfect occasion after all.

IMG_20250516_112141.jpg

Bolivarian Military Technical Academy

I mention architecture because visiting Maracay's Plaza Bolivar goes beyond the trees, fountains and the central statue. Around the square there are historic buildings, very striking for lovers of architecture and design. To the north is the Military Technical Academy, a fort I have loved since childhood. To the south is the Government Palace, although I believe that the government as such is still moved to another place nearby, I entered that palace many times in my childhood and I remember its facilities.

IMG_20250516_112513.jpg

Government Palace

IMG_20250516_112739.jpg

Maracay Civil Hospital

To the east is the Civil Hospital, another of the places that I once knew inside and that rises very strongly in the surroundings of the square, in fact it was nice to see that they keep very beautiful facade of it; and west of the Plaza, but a block further away you can see the Sindoni Tower, the largest building in the city and that looks majestic from this place.

Sindoni Tower

IMG_20250516_112901.jpg

Diagonal to the square you can also appreciate the Opera Theater, right on Miranda Avenue, although opera is the least appreciated thing in this place, but it is one of the oldest and most important theaters in the country. Anyway, it is a city that has kept many of its old buildings, some of them remodeled and that is pleasant to observe. There are not many tall buildings, so because of the power of the sun it is always good to walk around very early in the morning or in the evening.

IMG_20250516_112557.jpg

It may not be my favorite city in Venezuela, but after all it is my hometown and where I spent the first 25 years of my life. It has been nice to visit the plaza and see it from another perspective. This day while my mother was running some errands I took the opportunity to walk around downtown, so I will share a little more of this trip in future posts. Thank you very much to all of you who read and support my publications, I wish you an excellent weekend...

Ufff that shot with the Sindoni tower in the background is phenomenal.... This very well kept surroundings, I like that, pity that there are some parts like for example the city where I lived there was a square near my house and the monument of Bolivar looked like anything but a monument, I've seen some places where it does not seem that people live, they do not respect even the national monuments. Excellent Tomás brother, Happy weekend.

My friend, we have to accept our reality! Only the most emblematic architecture of each state capital remains here, and to a certain extent, the colonial and tourist areas. Hopefully everyone will cooperate to make the whole country attractive, but there is still a long way to go culturally. Thank you for your kind words. This part of Maracay is very beautiful. It was midday and very hot, but I still enjoyed visiting the square.
