Beach Day in Patanemo

I always share posts about my beach trips. I've been fortunate enough to visit many dreamlike places on the Venezuelan coast, but I have to admit that in recent years I've been lucky enough to do more activities like this. Today, for #TBT, I want to share some more intimate and personal photos from our first beach trip after my father's death. It was special not only because we fulfilled the promise of a family trip that my father had suggested if he recovered from his illness, but also because, to this day, I haven't found a beach I've loved as much as Patanemo Bay.

He tenido la dicha de conocer muchos lugares de ensueño en las costas venezolanas, pero debo aceptar que los últimos años he tenido la suerte de hacer más actividades como esta. Hoy, Jueves de #TBT quiero compartir unas imágenes un poco más íntimas y familiares de lo que fue nuestro primer viaje a la playa luego de la muerte de mi papá. No solo lo hizo especial haber cumplido esa promesa de viajar en familia que fue propuesta por mi propio padre si llegaba a mejorar de sus males, sino que hasta la fecha no he conocido una playa que me haya gustado tanto como la Bahía de Patanemo.

Patanemo Bay is a somewhat secluded place, hidden among the mountains in the state of Carabobo, Venezuela. My brother was the one who suggested the trip; he was already familiar with this beach, but for me, it was a new experience. Emotionally, our family wasn't going through the best time; the collective grief had overwhelmed us, but this trip still had a positive effect on us. We took this trip in 2024, and I thoroughly enjoyed the place, first because of its beautiful landscapes—and I'm not just referring to the beach, but also the town, the lagoon, and everything else; and second, the beach has strong waves, but in my opinion, they're not dangerous, and that convinced me from the start. It was love at first sight.

La Bahía de Patanemo es un lugar un poco retirado, escondido entre montañas en el Estado Carabobo de Venezuela. Mi hermano fue quien propuso el viaje, ya él conocía esta playa, pero para mí fue una experiencia nueva. Anímicamente la familia no estaba en el mejor momento, el luto colectivo nos tenía abrumados, pero de igual manera este viaje causó un efecto positivo en nosotros. Este viaje lo hicimos en el año 2024 y disfruté mucho el lugar, primero por sus hermosos paisajes y no me refiero solo a la playa, sino al pueblo, a la laguna y demás; y segundo, la playa es de oleaje fuerte, pero en mi opinión no llega a ser peligroso, y eso me convenció desde el inicio y fue amor a primera vista.

The beach impressed me a lot. Although the waves crash forcefully, you can walk quite far out into the sea, and the water remains very shallow. I didn't go any further because I had already ventured quite a distance from the shore, but it wasn't deep at all; moreover, the place was very affordable. You can spend a vacation in Patanemo without spending a lot of money. It seemed like there weren't many tourists, despite it being the weekend, and the truth is, until that trip, I had never even heard of this paradisiacal place. I've heard different opinions from people who do know about it, and it seems not everyone likes it as much as my brother and I did.

La playa me impresionó mucho. Aunque las olas golpean con fuerza, puedes adentrarte en el mar muy lejos de la orilla y el agua sigue siendo muy baja. No llegué más allá porque realmente me había alejado de la orilla, pero no era nada profunda; por otra parte, el lugar era muy económico. En Patanemo se puedo pasar una temporada vacacional gastando poco. Me pareció que no tenía muchos turistas, a pesar de ser fin de semana, y es que realmente hasta ese viaje yo nunca supe de la existencia de este paradisiaco lugar. He escuchado diversas opiniones de las personas que sí lo conocen, y parece no gustarle mucho a todos así como nos gustó a mi hermano y a mí.

It was undoubtedly a special moment, an escape from reality and an unforgettable adventure into the unknown. It was just our family and nature, trying to reconnect with ourselves. This post and the photos of Patanemo Bay don't do justice to all the wonders we experienced there, especially since the area, particularly the lagoon, is considered a national park. We don't need to travel as a family to be happy, but with the deep wounds we were all carrying, this trip was much needed. The pain was still there when we returned, but this hidden paradise allowed us to breathe and forget so many sad memories for the three days we were there. I'm eager to visit again, and I hope to do so someday; there are many areas I didn't get to explore. I hope life surprises me soon with another trip to Patanemo...

Sin duda alguna fue un momento especial, un escape a la realidad y una aventura inolvidable a lo desconocido. Solo éramos la familia y la naturaleza, tratando de reencontrarnos con nosotros mismos. Este post y las fotos de la Bahía de Patanemo se quedan cortos ante todas las maravillas que vivimos allá, y es que la zona es considerada como parque nacional, especialmente por la laguna. No necesitamos viajar en familia para ser felices, pero con la gran herida que todos llevábamos encima, este viaje fue muy necesario. El dolor seguía ahí cuando volvimos, pero este paraíso escondido nos hizo respirar y olvidarnos de tantos recuerdos tristes por los tres días que estuvimos allá. Yo he quedado con ganas de volver a visitarlo, y espero hacerlo algún día, hay muchas zonas que me faltaron por explorar. Espero la vida me sorprenda próximamente con un viaje a Patanemo...

I remember we stayed late at the beach, and it got dark on the way back to the inn. I loved that, and it's an experience I rarely have, since I usually only take day trips to the beach, or we stay in places that are very far away, but here everything was close by, and we allowed ourselves this little adventure. They were undoubtedly dreamlike days, so beautiful and fun that I remember them as if they were yesterday. Recuerdo que nos quedamos hasta tarde en la playa y oscureció en el camino de regreso a la posada. Eso me encanta, y una experiencia que pocas veces vivo, ya que siempre hago viajes a la playa de un solo día, o nos hospedamos en zonas muy lejanas, pero aquí todo era cerca y nos permitimos la aventura. Sin duda alguna fueron días de ensueño, tan hermosos y divertidos que los recuerdo como si hubieran sido ayer.
