Beach Day at Playa Azul

Happy #TBT Thursday everyone! I want to share some of my best memories from the tropical paradises of Venezuela. Last week I shared a bit of Patanemo in Carabobo State, but today I want to share the beauty of one of the most visited keys in Falcón State, which is part of Morrocoy National Park. It's Playa Azul, also known as Playa Sur, something I never understood 😅, but where I truly spent a special day with my wife and friends in some of the calmest waters I've ever known—I'm talking about the very gentle waves on the key...

Playa Sur, or Playa Azul, is very peaceful, even though we went in mid-August on a weekend. The white sand and crystal-clear water make it a special place. I remember there were no rocks lying across the water, and people could eat and drink while swimming, since the calm water allowed for long conversations without having to get out. What was annoying, though—and I think I wrote about it in a post a few years ago—is that around a certain time in the afternoon, some private yachts start arriving, shattering the peace and quiet with very loud music. But some people enjoy it, and it doesn't seem to bother everyone, at least not here in Venezuela.

I think the place lives up to its name. The color blue is everywhere in its various shades. You can only get here by small boats, and they'll come back to pick you up on the cay at the time you specify. Despite being quite remote, you can always find food, and it's truly delicious, although to save money it's a good idea to bring your own supplies from where you're staying. Right on this cay, you can see many mountains, not very high, rising in the distance, which, along with the clouds, offer spectacular views.

Thank you so much to everyone who reads and supports me here on Hive. I hope you enjoyed this post with tropical landscapes as much as I enjoyed my weekend there. Playa Azul is a special place that any sane person could visit again and again. It's not very big, but it's so secluded that it's simply perfect for sharing with family and friends. If you're in Venezuela, you know you have to go. The smiles on my wife's and my faces in these pictures remind us that it's one of our favorite places in the world, and the best part is that it's in our country... A heartfelt hug from afar to you 🙏
