A Night at the Colosseum!

Happy midweek everyone! The city of Rome meant many things to me during my week-long visit, but if I had to define it in one word, it would be "Walking." There were no moments of rest; every day we made it our mission to explore and enjoy different places, both historical and modern. If you read my blog, you'll know that the Colosseum is something I'd been longing to see for many years, and it was a pleasure to visit its surroundings on several occasions. The pictures I'm sharing with you today are from a day when I asked my group to please wait a few hours so we could appreciate it at night.

¡Feliz mitad de semana para todos!. La ciudad de Roma significó muchas cosas para mí en mi visita de una semana, pero si puedo definirla en una sola frase, esa sería "Paseos a pie"... No hubo momentos de descanso, todos los días nos encargamos de conocer y disfrutar de distintos lugares, históricos y modernos. Si lees mi blog, sabrás que el Coliseo es algo que anhelaba conocer con muchos años de anticipación, y fue grato para mí visitar sus al rededores en varias oportunidades, y las imágenes que les comparto hoy fue de un día donde le pedí a mi grupo que por favor esperáramos unas horas para poder apreciarlo en la noche.

Perhaps it wasn't quite as late as I've written in the title of this post, but it was late enough for the nighttime lights of the imposing building to be turned on. It looked truly beautiful illuminated with its arches, bathed in a yellow light that gave the impression of an amber effect on its ancient walls. My three companions—my wife and friends—were very tired, but I don't know what was wrong with me; I couldn't even sleep at night there 🤣 We didn't take any photos from afar because we took the metro very quickly after crossing the avenue. I made it my mission to explore the rest of the Colosseum Square and see other parts of its facade that I hadn't seen on our official visits. The place is very large, and it seems there's always something to see...

Quizás no era tan de noche como lo escribo en el título de esta publicación, pero era la suficientemente tarde como para que encendieran las luces nocturnas de la imponente edificación. Se veía realmente hermoso con la iluminación de sus arcos, con luz amarilla, que me da la impresión de un efecto ámbar en sus antiguas paredes. Mis tres acompañantes, esposa y amigos estaban muy cansados, pero yo no sé qué tenía, allá ni siquiera podía dormir en las noches 🤣 No lo fotografiamos de lejos porque tomamos el metro muy rápido al cruzar la avenida, me encargué de recorrer el resto de la Plaza del Coliseo y ver otras zonas de su fachada que no vi en nuestras visitas oficiales. El lugar es muy grande y parece que siempre hay algo que ver...

The Roman Colosseum does offer a guided night tour, but it's probably not open year-round. Last October, when I visited the city, there were no tickets available. I do remember wishing I'd bought the tickets, which cost around 50 Euros, as it's a more exclusive experience with fewer people and greater access to certain areas, plus it's a guided tour. It's not a daily event; when it's available, it's only offered one day a week, and if I remember correctly, it was on Thursdays. Perhaps we were too tired for this particular tour, but I remember it as one of the best anecdotes from my time in Rome. I didn't take many photos because my phone isn't the best for night photography, but we sat down to enjoy some delicious gelato while we recharged our batteries for the return trip to the hotel.

El Coliseo Romano sí tiene una visita guiada nocturna, pero posiblemente no abren durante todo el año, porque en Octubre del año pasado cuando visité la ciudad no había entradas disponibles, pero sí recuerdo que me habría gustado comprar las entradas que rondaban los 50 Euros, ya que es más exclusivo, menos personas y más acceso a las áreas del lugar, además de ser obligatoriamente guiadas. No es un evento que suceda a diario, cuando está disponible se recorre un solo día a la semana, y si mal no recuerdo eran los Jueves... Quizás para este paseo estábamos muy cansados, pero lo recuerdo como una de las mejores anécdotas en Roma. No tomé muchas fotos porque mi teléfono no es el mejor para fotos nocturnas, pero nos sentamos a comer un rico gelato mientras reponíamos fuerzas para volver al hotel...
