A Morning Walk!

Since we returned to Caracas we made it our goal to make the most of the last days of our vacation. There is little budget, but the city offers many wonders to visit without having to pay much or nothing. This month we will be 11 years living here, and yes, we don't know all the corners of the capital, we still look like tourists and this tour has proved it. We didn't particularly feel like going out this morning, but we motivated each other and said: Hey, let's go for a walk. The walk was long, but satisfying, and it was really close to home.

We went to a park very close to home, which although it has many names, my wife and I prefer to call it El Calvario. I remember that before I moved to Caracas I visited the city, passed by here and climbed that tall staircase you see in the first picture only halfway up, but since then I never dared to go further, perhaps because I did not have time. My wife had visited this place, even for work purposes, but what we found on our walk was better than she remembered and it was precisely what I was looking for for us, connection with nature and to get away from the noise of the city...

The stairs were the least of it, if we wanted to enjoy everything the place had to offer we would have to keep going up and up. It didn't bother us at all and we didn't feel the passage of time, in fact we thought we would be up for an hour and we spent almost four hours as we climbed, rested and descended. It wasn't tiring, there was a lot of art to appreciate and nature to breathe, besides, we weren't playing sports, just walking, holding hands and taking pictures of everything that was going on around us.

Upstairs there were many works of art and some sculptures of important Venezuelans in our history (and some foreigners too), but without a doubt my favorite and big surprise was this bust of Teresa Carreño, a heroine for Jhoxiris and me regarding music.

Perhaps what caught my attention the most was its location inside the park, with the chapel in the background, surrounded by bushes and under a beautiful blue sky with lots of clouds, I took the picture you see on the right and it was the one I liked the most of this walk. After this photographic moment was when we reached the top of this place, the highest part where you can see the four cardinal points of the city. Our favorite place was towards the east, since the breeze blew from there and managed to refresh us, you can see this picture of Caracas where you can appreciate mainly the twin towers of El Silencio.

A little more exhausted and after a well-deserved rest at the top we decided to start going down to return home, but we went the long way and through another area that we did not see on the way up. It really is a perfect place to walk around, I don't know what other people who know it think, but it seems that there is always something new to see or one more corner to discover. The best thing about this place is its vegetation, there are many trees and it is not hard to walk for long hours. I remember that we went for a walk in the morning because in the afternoon it is raining very hard every day, so it is better to get up and take a morning walk...

The best surprise was waiting for us downstairs, the michis from El Calvario appeared. I am still impressed with how friendly those cats were, much more than the people we frequented during our walk 🤣 we got to see three cats, I think they thought we had food, but we were not, we were already as hungry as they were. They didn't fight each other either, but they didn't look so friendly, the good thing is that they looked strong and healthy, they seem to be well taken care of up there. I will leave those pictures for a cat post later, but I can share with you this picture of my wife with the most beautiful Michi of this walk:

Well, I just have to say goodbye to you and recommend you, like every Wednesday, to take the opportunity to go out and take a walk. We were not very enthusiastic and we fell in love with this place, we had to give each other strength to get out of the house, and we were coming from a very difficult week, but a walk always heals everything, especially if nature is on the way. When we finished coming down we didn't go down the stairs where we came up, but instead we went through the Federation Arch. I love arches, but here you don't see as many as in other parts of the world, so I close with this selfie of the entrance of the park that we finally used as an exit 😅

When you have such a beautiful natural place like this one that you have visited, climbing stairs is the least of it, especially knowing all the benefits that you have from being in such a beautiful place
What beautiful landscapes, and what a good view you have from there
