Love Over Lectures: A Weekend Wedding Celebration!

Hivers who know me well will also know that I'm a part-time student studying Business Administration and Management The part-time course I chose is a weekend course, so I go to school every weekend.

Jessica and the bride

As we finished our first-semester exam on October 21, we took a 2-week break before starting the second semester on November 13. Prior to our first-semester exam starting, one of my friends came to visit me at my house and told me she had just gotten engaged and would be getting married soon.

image.png

The date of the wedding had not been fixed yet when she told me about it, but she felt it would be nice to keep me informed so that I was prepared. She chatted with me on WhatsApp a few weeks later after she visited my house to let me know what the wedding date was.

Unfortunately, the date she mentioned for the wedding happened to coincide with my school's resumption day. Confused about what to do, I decided to apologize to her and let her know I might not be able to attend the wedding.

After sending her the message, she replied saying she understood, but in my heart, I was bitter that I would miss the wedding. I chose school over the wedding because I assumed important information would be shared at school, and I didn't want to miss anything.

On the day of the wedding, which was also the day school resumed, I sent her a heartwarming message on her special day. Upon arriving at school that Saturday morning, my coursemates and I tried to locate our class and awaited our lecturer to come to lecture us or to give us any important information.

The first lecture was supposed to take place at 8 A.M., but unfortunately, the lecturer did not show up. I kept waiting with a few other students around, but the lecturer still did not show up.

image.png

In that moment, I had regrets and wished I had just attended my friend's wedding. I took my phone and read the information on the invitation card, feeling still disappointed at the fact that no lecturer was at school and I missed my friend's wedding. My attention was then drawn to the fact that the reception was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

image.png

My first thought was that I did not need to go anymore. It took me a few minutes before 3 p.m. to make a decision on whether I should go or not. After I called the number on the wedding invitation card to see if the reception was still going on The receiver said the reception was still going on and would last another three hours.

When I heard that, I decided to go to an ATM at school, withdraw some money, and make my way to the reception. I was excited about meeting at the wedding reception.

image.png

The school was far from the wedding reception location, so it took me about an hour and 30 minutes to reach it. Fortunately, traffic wasn't too bad.

At the bus stop, I asked around for directions to the event center. Another woman behind me interrupted me and told me I could follow her since she was heading there as well.

I felt happy that I didn't spend so much time trying to locate the event center.

image.png

At the event center, the other lady went her way, and as I was about to go in, a security guard asked me to present my invitation card before I could get in.

Unfortunately, I did not have a hard copy of the invitation but rather a soft copy, and as I took out my phone to search for it, my friend's brother saw me and was glad to see me. Seeing this, the security guard did not bother to look at the invitation since he was sure I wasn't a stranger to the couple.

image.png

There was no way I could go home to change because it would be an additional expense and time wasn't going to wait for me. Instead, I wore the orange jumpsuit I wore earlier to school to the wedding.

I got a clear view of the couple from the front seat in the reception hall thanks to the bride's brother.

When she saw me, she whispered "thank you" to me. She probably thought I wouldn't be able to make it since I told her earlier that I would not be able to make it.

While I was there, I took as many pictures as I could and also took a selfie with her. She looked so happy and beautiful.

Though my day went downhill and I was disappointed when I arrived at school to find out that there were no lecturers, I am glad that I managed to make it to my friend's wedding despite the late time.

image.png

Due to my late arrival, I did not eat or drink anything at the wedding, but that was not as important as my presence at the wedding and the fact that I took a lot of pictures and recorded videos of the couple.

Also, I was too shy to dance, but I tried to move my body to avoid looking weird.

image.png

Before leaving the event center, the couples danced a bit more after the vote of thanks. When I was leaving, I whispered to her that I had to leave and apologized again for being late. She said it wasn't a problem and thanked me for coming.

As soon as I left the wedding reception, I went straight home, took a bath, ate dinner, and went to bed. I was exhausted from the festivities, road trips and needed a good night's rest.

I'm glad you finally made it to the wedding.

In Nigeria, school doesn't resume on the resumption date. Students resume one week after while our lovely lecturers resume two weeks later.

Just in case you have another important thing to do on a resumption date🌚.

Yes, I have learned that.
I won't resume on resumption day next time, unless something else comes up at school.
Thanks for coming around 🙂

I am happy you made it to the reception! I'm sorry the lecture didn't happen; why do people just not show up? I don't get that!

Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures and have a lovely day!

Nice write-up sis, I am very happy you were able to decide on going to the wedding, Little things we do in situations like this go a long way in defining who we really are.
