Rovinj in May: Adriatic colors, slow evenings and the taste of Istria

Hello dear travelers, today I am taking you to the sea, come with me! 😊 At the beginning of May, I visited Rovinj once again for the Days of communication festival (DK2026). Just like last year, arriving in Rovinj instantly brought back that familiar feeling, the mix of calmness, beauty, and Mediterranean energy that makes this town so special.

I will write more about the festival itself in my next post, but this time I wanted to share the experience of simply being there.

Even in May, before the peak tourist season begins, Rovinj feels alive.

The streets of the old town are full of movement, local conversations, small art shops, and the smell of the sea mixed with flowers growing from colorful windows and stone facades.

One of my favorite moments was the taxi boat ride towards the old town. The shades of the Adriatic were beautiful.

As the old town slowly came closer, with its recognizable skyline and narrow stone streets, it felt like arriving in a postcard.

We wandered through the local market where I bought homemade olive oil and delicious truffle paste, small flavors of Istria to bring home.

And then came the food, truly an explosion of tastes. Fresh seafood, burrata, octopus salad, and traditional Istrian pasta called pljukanci, served with truffles, seafood, shrimps...

Every dinner by the sea lasted long because no one wanted the evenings to end.

Together with my colleagues, I enjoyed slow walks along the coast, warm spring air, and the scent of sea everywhere around us.

I was especially fascinated by the beautiful passion flowers climbing through the gardens and terraces of the old town.

Rovinj in May has a special atmosphere vibrant, yet peaceful. A place that does not try too hard to impress you, but makes you feel relaxed and good.

Rovinj looks like one of those places that immediately makes you slow down and enjoy the moment 🌊✨ I can understand why returning there brings back such a special feeling. The combination of the sea, beautiful architecture, and that Mediterranean atmosphere must be wonderful.
Thanks for taking us along on your journey. Your description makes me want to visit Rovinj someday 😊🇭🇷🌅
